Hard Solo Holy Paladin Guide (40/40 Knight Priest) Will update as game updates
By Toki Silvertongue
People in my stream asked to make a guide for the character I was playing as this is the first complete guide for a holy Paladin (Knight/Priest) build that I have found so far. This build will happily take out hard dungeons solo without any real trouble and I've really enjoyed playing it.

I intend to update this as the game is updated.

Intro
TL;DR I have a short video at the bottom of this guide to explain the skills I picked and why, along with a few other bits and bobs, but it isn't as in depth as the written guide.

For whatever reason, people wanted me to write this up as a proper build guide so here you go! The main purpose of this character is to quickly and effectively wipe out large groups of enemies when playing as a solo character instead of in a large group. This particular build isn't fully optimised towards that as I play with friends every so often, so where my actual skill selections deviate from the prime purpose, I will mention a better alternative specifically for solo play.

Additionally, this build is specifically for a level 40/40 character. I may make lower level build guides at some point but this is what I have available at the moment

For your initial class choice you should Knight, followed later on by Priest. This is to ensure you have the appropriate passive skills for this build. It will focus entirely on Holy damage, room clearing crit explosions, and surviving through bosses and running around in circles whilst you wait for your long range homing attacks to reset.

Here's a very short example of the build in action from one of my streams:
Stats
These numbers might look a little odd, but they all serve a purpose overall.

Whilst it is the second highest here, arguably the most important is Prestige. Not only does it increase your resistance modifiers and by extension your 'tankiness', it boosts critical hit chance. This build mostly revolves around crit chance so this is really important. As extra levels are added to the game, you'll want to throw a ton more points into this stat. Up the crit chance, up the room clear chance.

Next most important is the lowest stat on the block (go figure), Focus. Attack speed isn't all that important for this as you're mostly waiting for your big room clears, but block chance is pretty critical in this build. I've bumped it up to 25% chance for the increased chance to proc the passive skill. Ideally, this would be higher so when more levels enter the game I'd recommend on each level up spending two points in Prestige, and one point in Focus.

Finally, Bravery is a bit of an early dump stat. Damage is obviously pretty integral to basically every build, and 40% bonus is pretty nice. Additionally, the Healing Affinity, healing over time and shield strength are great for when playing with groups. Really this stat is only a damage booster for solos. Get up to 40% increase and just leave it, the other stats are way more important.

Passive Skills
The passive skills in this build are based entirely around survivability. Heals and heals and heals and...

FEARLESS:

This skill is super useful when it comes to improving tankiness. +10% Health Points +10% Armor are obviously super amazing bonuses to anybody not wanting to die to a big horde of nastiness chasing you. This build exists to wipe out big groups, and this accounts for stray arrows and other rubbish.

More importantly, when combo'ed with block chance this skill is amazing. Blocking, in addition to reducing the damage taken, now also gives a healing boost and gives a small quanity of energy. Energy is integral to this build, and can often be haemhorraged horribly if you're not careful.

BORN TO FIGHT:

This skill is your biggest source of heals in dungeons. Admittedly it only procs once per second, but any higher than that would be SUPER over powered. 5% health every second is a lot more than it sounds, and when you're also leeching 100% of your enemy's health you're suriving hard through big groups that want to murder you.
Active Skills and How Best to Use Them!
THE BREAD AND BUTTER OF THIS BUILD: VENGEFUL AXE

If you get a large enough group of mobs together and then release this beast, you can clear the room very easily. Immediate damage isn't so great, it's the crit that is the beauty of this. Six hits and six chances to do 450% damage in an AOE explosion for every crit. Best part is, if they're close enough these explosions overlap and cause HUGE damage in a really small area. If you're also spec'ed out with Holy Penetration gear this is brutal.

Run through dungeons and attract as many mobs as you possibly can or you get worried might stun lock you before turning back into the group and releasing this on them. Pick off stragglers with Crescent Strike or Burning Soul if they're far back.

ONE BIG DOWNSIDE: This skill is useless against single targets. If it crits, that's great but this is ideal against groups more that anything. When facing bosses, still use this as it's a great long range damage output against a single target but it isn't great. What you need is...

NUKE 'EM: PRAYER CASCADE

This skill is crazy good. Homing explosives that deal a massive amount of damage to one or multiple targets. When it comes to groups in dungeons I tend to cycle between this and Vengeful Axe whenever the other is on cooldown. Big AOE explosions and chaos for groups but this skill is also great against bosses and other single targets.

This is my primary boss skill. Run around in circles, dodge the problem attacks and fire this off for lots of damage from a distance. If the boss gets close, or your Vengeful Axe wasn't lucky with crits you will need to use...

COLLABORATE AND LISTEN: IMMORTAL HAMMER

Also known as 'Shut up and sit down!' this skill is one of my favourites for ingame animations. it does so much damage to a small group of enemies that if your Vengeful Axe didn't work out for the best, this ought to clean up after it all.

More importantly, your health is waning and the boss is coming close? Smack them with this. Chunky health boost and if you're playing with friends like I do, this gives back to the community a little bit. It also heals your mining golems for 15% of their health so it's a very tasty addition to the skill bar.

PRIMARY SKILL: CRESCENT STRIKE

Great for AOE attack against groups that manage to survive through your room clear and aren't on the other side of the screen. More importantly, the aggro boost is great for grouping lots of enemies together ready for Vengeful Axe or Prayer Cascade. Smack them, run through and find the next group, give them a smack and pull them all together. If, however, the stragglers are too far you want to finish them off with...

ENERGY GUZZLER: BURNING SOUL

Long range attack which pierces through everything in a line and not only that heals you by a HUGE chunk too. Great way to spam your way back up to health if you're in trouble during a boss fight and they're too far away to Immortal Hammer. It can be cast as often as your primary skill and does a LOT of damage to as many creatures as you can get to line up nicely for you.

The big problem with this infuriatingly wonderful skill is that if you get carried away with how often you can cast it, it will EAT YOUR ENERGY UP! Remain careful, use it sparingly, and everything will work out fine. Get carried away and suddenly you can't cast any skills at all and you're left to hope your blocks earn you enough energy to clear the room before you die from stun lock.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: ONRUSH AURA

This is a super useful buff during boss fights that are going on a little longer than you hoped they would. It's a great boost to armour and not only that, if the enemy dares come near you they'll take DOT damage whilst inside the aura. It's not usually a lot, but it is enough when you're cleaning up after a Vengeful Axe that wasn't particularly lucky or clearing through breakable objects trying to find an Offensive/Speed Ember to help out with the next fight. It's also pretty decent in a group with other melee players against a single large target.
Additonal Skill Points
KNIGHT SKILLS:

Get enough crit chance to unlock Crescent Strike and enough hit chance to unlock Burning Soul.

Here is the first 'inoptimal' choice for this build. If you're playing solo, take enough damage value to get to Immortal Hammer. As I play with friends often I took healing affinity as I face tank for a group.

Next take armor point bonus for Onrush Aura. No need to worry about aggro so much when you're solo playing dungeons.

After this, max out Bonus Resistance: All Attributes along the Taunting Spirit skill tree and the crit chance for Vengeful Axe.

With your remaining four points, throw them in block chance along the Blow Skill tree.

PRIEST SKILLS:

Max out crit chance along Purge and take enough Energy Recovery Rate to unlock Sinful Torrent.

You can play around with these ones a little, but take enough crit to unlock Evening Cascade at the very least.

Next, max out block chance along Ancients of Mu Healing light. With your remaining eight points buy out Bonus Resistance: All Attributes along Cannibal Corpse for the extra tankiness.

Closing thoughts
To reiterate, this build is entirely about dragging large groups together and killing them off together. It has its downfalls against large, single targets, but the survivability counters that somewhat. I will be updating this build guide as the game releases more content, but until then, good luck Immortals!

Here's a video of the skills and stat explanation with a few other bits and bobs thrown in too:

This is my first guide on Steam so I hope it lived up to everyone's expectations!

I'll be writing up an updated version of this build now I've hit 50:50 (been too busy to play 😞) and there are a few differences, but I'm slightly disappointed that there are no new skills or passives at level 50.

This build is good, but for solo leveling and solo clearing current content I think the healing and aggro are overkills, you could use much more effectivly the skill points.

Thanks for checking the build out. It's been a while since I did this at low level, but I recommend getting burning soul as early as possible. It is a life saver in tricky spots.

Hey, I started the game in the last few days. I was exactly looking for a paladin like combo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Will rate later.
