A Criminal Past

A Criminal Past
Complete A Criminal Past.

This achievement is story related and cannot be missed. Simply complete the DLC to unlock.
Quid Pro Quo (8:10)
Help out a fellow inmate by making a trade.

You can unlock this at the very start of the DLC. When they open the cell doors, visit the cell to your right to collect nu poz and then the cell across for a bottle of alcohol. The alcohol can then be traded with an inmate as shown at 8:48, and the nu poz a bit later on with the inmate next to Flossy's cell (23:00). You need only one to unlock the achievement, but two Multitools are better than one!
Winners Don't Use Drugs (or Biocells)
Complete A Criminal Past without using the Fixer Pill or the Altered Biocell.

While technically missable, this achievement is self-explanatory. Simply never take the pill that The Fixer offers you and don't use the customised biocell that you can find as a side objective. This, in effect, means that you will have to complete the DLC without using your augmentations, resembling The Missing Link's Factory Zero achievement.
A Just Cause (13:10)
Decide what to do with the Altered Biocell.

You will need to speak to The Fixer at the start of the DLC. Flossy will tell you about him. This is missable! So make sure to wait for him as shown at 13:10 and speak to him about "the delivery" then offer to help.

Follow the optional objective and once you obtain the customised biocell from the locked room (20:00), you can either consume it instantly or tell Flossy about it and deal it to his friend, Red Shoes, in B-Block (31:50). Either choice will unlock the achievement.
Don't Reach, Young Blood (20:00)
Find the basketball and put it in the hoop.

The ball is locked in the same room with the customised biocell on the first floor of A-Block prison cells (where you start the DLC) as shown at 20:00. Speaking to The Fixer and offering to help will add a POI to your minimap, which could help you navigate to the room easily. The code is 6014, which can be found in a stuffed Teddy toy in the Shower rooms.

You have to put the ball in one of the hoops in the yard outside to unlock the achievement.
Dressed for the Occasion (27:00)
Blend in with the proper prisoner jumpsuit.

The suit is located in a locked room between Block A and B. You can easily find the code from a pocket secretary in A-Block's Warden office, or take the alternative - a vent shown at 27:00. Simply dress up as a Cell Block B prisoner to unlock this achievement.

Note that if you hand the customised biocell to Flossy as I did at 21:45, he will tell you about the locker and that will add a POI to your radar.
Code of Conduct
Complete A Criminal Past without killing anyone.

Pretty self-explanatory, this achievement is basically like Pacifist from the main story. If you don't take the pill or use the customised biocell and play Factory Zero, I recommend that you collect the Stun Gun from the locker room as shown at 27:00.

It all depends on how you play, but if you follow my video, you will have only two points of direct conflict when the Stun Gun will come in handy:
  • 1:28:30 - when D-Town shows up from the elevator, make sure to keep your distance and he won't attack you. Zap him in the head it's Stun Gun or Tranqualiser.

  • 1:38:00 - choose to side with Mejia, but have your Stun Gun ready and surprise him with an unexpected change of heart.
That's it. Once you leave on the chopper and finish the DLC, the achievement will unlock.
Smooth Like Soap (27:00)
Find Mejia in Cell Block B without raising an alarm.

This is not difficult to do, there are a few vents which help you navigate around very easily. Follow my path in the video as shown at 27:00 and you will unlock it without much effort, you can even disable the alarm panels from an unlocked security computer as shown at 29:20.
Objection! (33:30)
Get Mejia to confess to murdering Wilburg.

This achievement will require you to complete a few side objectives tracked with POI, which can be missable! Note that for whatever reason not all of these will show up on your radar.
  • POI: The Death of Wilburg (33:30)
Collect the chip from the sentry as shown at 33:30. You can wait for the guards to finish their conversation and use a stun gun on one of them for much easier stealthy approach than what I did, which can be a bit tricky.

If you want a POI on your radar, make sure to ask Flossy about the murder and not Guererro at the start of the DLC when you meet him in the A-Block's prison yard (11:45).

  • Pocket Secretary - Processing (44:25)
When you reach Processing, enter the middle area and then the room to the left. There will be a guy who will lean on one of the desks - in the cupboard will be a pocket secretary that you need to read (45:10).

  • Pocket Secretary - Automated Security (46:10)
You will need access to Automated Security level via the elevator using a Keycard, which can be found on a dead guard in Processing as shown at 46:10. Note that if you haven't helped Flossy, the guard might be alive, so you will need to knock her out or kill her to retrieve the Keycard. Then use the elevator to reach Automated Security and look in the safe for the pocket secretary as shown at 47:00.
The other three clues may be optional and not needed, but they are on the way and provide more context to the whole story:
  • Wilburg's Corpse - Infamary (49:30)
Simply investigate Wilburg's corpse in the Infamary where you will find The Fixer.

  • The Heart - Solitary Confinement (58:30)
Make sure to talk to The Fixer so that he tells you about the secret passage (marked as The Primrose Path POI on the radar). Use the computer as shown at 57:10 to open the door and reach the area beneath Solitary Confinement to find an augmented heart.

  • POI: Vanishing Act (1:01:10)
Read the pocket secretary next to the security computer that you use to unlock Mejia's cell. This will reveal a POI on your radar, so make sure to follow it BEFORE you free Mejia. You will need to interact with a vent on the floor of cell S-06 in Solitary Confinement.

Speak to Mejia and ask him about the murder when you free him from his cell. If you have collected the clues above, he will confess to you the truth.
Umlauts or no Umlauts (1:38:40)
Decide the Fixer's fate.

You need to make sure The Fixer lives in the end, whatever your means, and speak to him in order to decide whether to take him with you or leave him behind. Either choice will unock the achievement for you.

IMPORTANT: To avoid the conflict with Mejia in the end, you will need to collect a Pocket Secretary found in Administration Room 106. Please refer to the screenshots below as I did not cover this in my video.

Thanks to Solaire of Astora who told me about this option as I had completely missed it!

Once you confront Mejia, choose Challenge -> Confront about Wilburg / Hold Accountable -> Blackmail. If you missed the pocket secretary, do what I did at 1:38:00 and simply take Mejia's side, but instantly stun him as soon as the cutscene ends.

If you have taken the pill or customised biocell, you will have access to C.A.S.I.E. and be able to persuade Mejia to spare The Fixer even if you haven't collected the clues for his conspiracy.

Thanks. From the description I see I missed like 70% of the story, might try to play it again someday ;)

Winners Don't Use Drugs (or Biocells) is *really* hard. Multitools are very limited, and for the few security hubs you can hack you can't disable turrets, robots or drones. You also can't so much as take out an enemy with a good old-fashioned KO. A lot of save-scumming is required for this.

Imagine only playing a game like Dishonored or Deus Ex once, and only for achievements. Ya know, these games have New Game plus. No one is forcing you to get every achievement either. They're supposed to be achievements, not every one is going to be as simple as putting a ball through a hoop. Some of them are actually supposed to be worth flexing.

lol then don't do the achievement. Literally no one is forcing you to get those achievements, play for pure fun and enjoyment for your 1st playthrough and then you might wanna do 2nd playtrough with all achievements you missed. Not mentioning that those genre of games are meant to be completed multiple times.

@cargorunner yeah, I hate when games do this. they gave you an amazing amount of options about how you want to play but then fuck you in the achievements forcing you to play in one specific way only. Dishonored does this too :steamfacepalm:

Thanks for the guide and especially the video. Not killing anyone and using no augs made it really hard and not much fun.

Not sure. There is only one achievement about not raising alarms, see Smooth Like Soap.

does smooth operator matter in the story?
