Basics
First thing you should know (if you didn't) that there are 7 achievements related to getting SSS ranks, one for each level.

With that out of the way, let's get straight to the point! To get an SSS rank on a level, you have to get a level-end-rating of S in all three categories: Time, Damage and Style.

Time requires you to be relatively quick in a level. You should get an S most of the time in this category if you don't waste too much time.

To get an S in Damage is a little trickier as you are not allowed to take a single hit in the entire level. Playing on Easy should make this significantly easier if you aren't very good at the game (which doesn't mean that it's impossible on Very Hard).

Style is kinda tricky if you don't know what you're doing. The idea is to retain an S style rank for most of a level (the thing in the top right). The quickest way to raise it is to taunt every 3-5 enemies killed. You can stop doing that once you hit S. Don't go overboard, though, as you still want an S in Time.
Advanced Tips
Time
The quickest way to beat a level is to use the White weapon you get once you beat the game on Very Hard. It deals very high DPS once you get to S style rank (which is required for SSS anyways). That should shave off a few more seconds each level but overall should not be needed as the times aren't very strict.

Damage
I would put an extensive guide on how to dodge bosses but I don't think that is really necessary.
Choose the Easy difficulty on the level you want an SSS rank.
Here are some tricky sections you should pay attention to either way:
Minor story spoilers, I'm not gonna tag them all.
  • During Level 2, the first two bosses extensively use rockets. These can be quickly dispatched by firing at them. Do that.
  • At the end of the same level, shoot at Valentine's shield with a rocket launcher. It will instantly break it.
  • Focus somewhat on destroying the robot birds in the first phase of Level 3 as you can easily run into them if there are a lot of them.
  • Also in Level 3, towards the end, there is a bullet hell like section. Kill as many of the enemies coming from the bottom right so they cannot shoot any projectiles. Reflect any of them coming your way if you can.
  • Using the rocket launcher on the Chaff Spammer clears out the majority of the chaffs and therefore dangers.
  • Segment Slider: Careful dodging. > Dealing damage.
  • On Level 5, you should really destroy most of the blobs so they don't get in your way.
  • During the first phase of the Valentine boss battle, clear out the Lil' Guppies with your weapon if she sends them your way. Using the (standalone) katana makes this very easy due to its large hit radius {Tip by ANGERY}. And while you're at it, clear out any enemies during that phase.
  • During phase 4, you can once again break her shield using the rocket launcher.
  • The easiest way to dodge the staby attack of the Mantis Core is to walk in one direction without stopping. Yes, that does work on Very Hard. If you get to the end, slow down time and dash the opposite direction.
  • During the final rival battle, there are two things to keep in mind: Don't stay too close to the edge of the arena in case he uses an air-strike as their explosions will go up the sides of the arena. If he uses his katana, either don't attack or use charged shots from the laser rifle.

Style
As already mentioned, taunting every few hits you got in will raise your style meter very quickly. Alternatively, you can also dash close to enemy bullets.
Another option that is super easy possible from Level 2 onwards is by abusing the fact that Arcade Mode will let you carry your style meter over to the next level, eliminating the need to even raise it in the first place. (See the bonus.)
Bonus
If you need an example for execution...

Anyway, I hope this was useful to you!
If you want me to add anything (or maybe have concrete times you have to beat for S in Time), write a comment and let me know!

I got some tips for style. Every time u do something to increase style it gains some "fatigue" so the more u use it the less style it will increase, the only ways of removing this is either waiting or changing to another technique, the latter can include: Taunting, dashing near enemy projectiles, shooting, changing weapons and using the newly selected weapon for a while and I think reflecting a big projectile or getting reflect kills works too. Another thing about fatigue is that the less u use a different technique the less fatigue goes away... Okay u need an example lol, lets say ur shooting with pistols and you get full fatigue, then u change to white and if u shoot too little and change back to pistols there won't be much of a difference in style increase, but if you shoot more with white the pistols' fatigue will be reset.
And another tip would be that using slow motion when u taunt it makes taunting a lot safer since enemy projectiles make it only halfway than normal.

lol, i dont think anything beats S rank white.

anyways thanks for the guide, i just wanted the classic rocket launcher so i did a whole run of mostly it. i was surprisingly pleased with it though.

you did a arcade run on hard??? wow.... ill check it out

Also, considering that I did a SSS Hard Arcade run once, which I luckily recorded as it was on the old leaderboards , and never really used a rocket launcher probably means something as well--

TL;DR: Might work, but it's probably not the easiest or safest strategy for this matter, even more so as time isn't the most difficult aspect of it.

@Ithurtwhen_ipee I'll be perfectly honest, you probably have a point (even though I don't actually think that the rocket launcher is a massive damage increase over pistols and definitely weaker than S-Rank White), this is a guide for how to easily get SSS-Ranks. Additionally, time matters little as the pace required to actually get an S on Time is relatively lenient.

Aiming with the rocket launcher at a moving enemy (which most Bosses aren't actually, now that I'm thinking about this), definitely doesn't match the description of that. Even against Valentine's attacks, where she is either alone (more DPS from White, possibly Laser Rifle) or her minions are very spread out (making taking out more than 1 per shot harder, especially on Easy when there are less IIRC).

@Dplay i feel it does, im sure its to compensate for the fact it has a travel time. like the old revolver in bleed 1 and more. its dps is arguably the same, or less than defaults because of the travel time.

against Valentine though, no matter what fight shes in, rockets are better against all her attacks, switch to katana something when needed to reflect bullets.

not just agianst her either, rockets absolutely demolish all bosses that are hit by the aoe and are slow or immobile. thats been my experience doing just an almost full rocket run a few days ago.

@Ithurtwhen_ipee I'll be perfectly honest, the rocket launcher seems to deal a little more damage than just using the pistols, however using the pistols is probably still safer . Also, during her last phase, yes, just keeping on shooting her with rockets works, she however takes way more damage once the shield is actually down (which only happens once her stun animation end). You can swap to the rocket launcher when she becoms invulnerable again; this should break the shield again before she can launch any more attacks.

yeah the first phase of guppies and more all die to the large hit box of rockets. she also gets stunned if you just keep the rockets on her, though idk if its more effective to let the shield break or not.

tbh, the rocket absolutely demolishes valentine in everything but her quick aimed lasers.

@ANGERY that's actually a good tip! I'll add that.

During phase 1 of Valentine, you can easily avert the fly attack with the katana due to its large hit radius.
