Choice System/Guide
By GB Patch
The choice system in A Foretold Affair is somewhat complex. There are four different types of choices and they each change the game in different ways. This guide will explain what effect each type of choice has and which specific choices are which type.

It is not highlighted in this guide, but nearly every choice has some effect on the conversations/scenes you get at the end of the game. An Ending Guide may be uploaded later on, if there is a need.

Intro

In this guide I will explain everything you need to know about making choices throughout the game. A Foretold Affair is a custimzeable story as opposed to a fully branching one. This means that even though the text/events change very often based on what you chose, the main plot points will remain the same.
Stage Choices
Stages are non-plot relevant events you get with your future spouse at times when no other characters are around. Every Stage choice is about choosing the type of conversation you have during the Stage. There are ten Stages per future spouse option overall, but you’ll only see four whilst playing through one time. That’s because Stages branch as such:
1 / \ 2A 2B / \ / \ 3A 3B 3C / \ / \ / \ 4A 4B 4C 4D

There are two choice options in each Stage; one option is either lighthearted or not very prying and that will give a more fun or cute conversation. The other option is serious or shows an interest in learning personal info about the character and that will give a more backstory related conversation. If you always choose the lighthearted options, you’ll get all the A Stages. If you always choose the more backstory related options you’ll get 1, 2B, 3C, and 4D. If you flip flop between the two types, you’ll end up somewhere in the middle.

Closed/Open Choices
Closed/Open choices can come about during plot important moments or more casual conversations. They can be about choosing what to do or what to say and they are not specific to conversations with certain characters.

Choosing an ‘open’ choice can mean that Seer speaks about themselves/their culture. Choosing a ‘closed’ choice can mean that Seer won’t make themselves/their culture the subject of the conversation and you’ll tend to learn more about the other character(s)/Normal society instead. Closed/Open choices can also be about whether Seer participates with the group or prefers to do things by themselves/with fewer people.

Open/Closed choices work on a point system rather than branching directly like Stages. So every time you make an Open/Closed choice, you’ll gain more Open/Closed points. At certain places the game will check to see if you have more Open points or more Closed points and the conversation will change based on that. In a couple cases specific Closed/Open choices will determine entire conversations that happen later on as opposed to using the point system.
Misc. Choices
Misc. choices technically have an effect on the game, but not in the same way as a usual choice. Things such as choosing which name you’ll be called by counts as a Misc. choice. Basically any choice that has more of a meta effect on the game or just doesn’t fall into any of the other three categories is considered a Misc. choice.
Side Choices [Somewhat of a Spoiler]
There is a bit of a Trinette mini-story in the game and a couple of choices that go along with it. Depending on the choice you make, you will either continue to get extra Trinette events or you won’t. Trinette choices have to do with showing an interest/not showing an interest in suspicious things you don’t know about and wanting to talk to Trinette/not wanting to talk to Trinette.
Choice Guide
It isn’t too specific, but does include some spoiler-y things. It’s probably best to read one description after you’ve reached a choice in the game and repeat each time you reach a new choice, as opposed to reading the full guide and then playing.

Does the first choice of the 3 pictures determine who you'll romance in this game?

@MissMikko
It depends on what you count as affecting the ending. Open/Closed choices change certain conversations during the ending, but the overall plot points will stay the same. And the open/closed choices do give you a bit of customization with the MC's personality as well as letting you learn more about the characters.

wait so it doesn't affect the ending if i choose open or closed as long as i end up w them? Is the point a personality/attitude customization thing or just to learn more about the characters?
