The Upcoming CRIME SPREE Feature

For those who are unable to watch videos (at work, etc), don't like watching videos to get their information, or don't like sifting through 60+min Twitch streams for details, here's a written summary of the information they went over. I'm 95% sure this is all accurate to what they said, but if I slipped on something please let me know. I'll confirm and update. Thanks!

This stream was a lot more complicated than the Infamy Update stream; I tried to include everything while keeping is as brief as possible. Here goes!

Crime Spree
A new playable mode unlocked at Level 60 (no infamy requirement), this mode lets you string single days from heists to build up your Crime Spree level and earn higher rewards. It starts at Overkill difficulty at Spree level 0; this includes enemy damage and health values, spawn rates, etc. As the Crime Spree level increases and Modifiers are added, the difficulty will climb to be more equivalent to higher difficulties (via those modifiers).

** all exact numbers and values are a work in progress **

First, you choose your starting Crime Spree level
  • There is a Continental Coin buy-in
  • You can start from a higher level of Crime Spree (Crime Spree level is currently denoted by a "ticket" icon, which may change before the feature's release). If you don't want to play at Overkill difficulty, you can spend more Continental Coins to jump to a higher difficulty right away.
  • You will be able to start your Spree from one of four levels. Ex: Lv.0, Lv.50, Lv.100, and the highest level is always the highest Spree level you've personally reached. **Lv.50 and Lv.100 are placeholders, not set in stone.**

Selecting the Heist
  • Three heist options are displayed. These options include single days from multi-day heists, but won't include every 'day' in the game. "Maybe 90%, but not 100%"
  • The stopwatch icon next to each heist signifies the approximate duration of that heist; longer heists add more "tickets" (Spree level) upon completion.
  • Heists you do not own will not show up as heist options in Crime Spree when you host.
  • You can re-roll your heist options at the cost of Continental Coins (once Modifiers have been chosen). Each consecutive re-roll will cost more Continental Coins.
  • At least one stealthable option will always be available in each selection of 3 heists.
- Per the stream today, you can't start the heist until you select modifiers (if necessary), but it appears you won't be able to select modifiers until you've selected a heist. It's weird. So if you didn't start at Spree Lv.0, click on any of the 3 heist options, then click Select Modifiers. Pick however many you need to, then you can choose what heist you want or re-roll. Again, it's weird.

Modifiers!
  • Modifiers are similar to mutators, but their values are set and not sliders. They can and will stack.
  • Every ~50 levels (placeholder, not set in stone) of Crime Spree, minimum required Modifiers increases by 1.
  • You will choose modifiers from a selection of 3. When you select your first modifier, it will then be replaced by another potential modifier when you're required to choose a second. The two unchosen modifiers from the first selection will remain in the next selection pool (it doesn't randomize all three each time, only the one replacement.)
  • Modifiers can appear more than once, but are additive and not multiplicative. Ex: Selecting "+20% enemy HP and +25% enemy damage" three times would result in "+60%HP and +75% damage."

In the Lobby Screen
  • All applied Modifiers are displayed on the heist lobby screen.
  • Gage Perks are single-heist bonuses that can be purchased by players with Continental Coins. They are applied to the entire crew, but are limited to 1 per player per heist (or more accurately, "per day"), so a maximum of 4. (Similar to Crew Bonuses in PD:TH)
- Losing connection or being kicked will return the player to the main menu, and any spent funds will be refunded. It will be as if you didn't join a Spree at all.

Successful completion of a heist
  • Success awards more Crime Spree points ("tickets") and a selection of 3 more heist options will display.
  • In the Success screen, a Rewards tab will be displayed instead of proceeding to the usual loot screen. This will be faster/mainstreamed to allow you to jump right into the next heist of the Crime Spree.
  • The more successful heists you chain, the higher your reward modifier will be to net more experience/cash/coins/loot.

Failing a heist
  • Failure of a heist will not award Crime Spree points ("tickets") or increased rewards.
  • Upon failure, you can cash out on any rewards earned up to this point and end your Spree, or you can spend a significant chunk of Continental Coins to continue your Spree at your current level. The higher your Spree level, the more expensive it is to continue after a failure.
  • The price of continuing a failed Spree is not set, but the devs would like to make it something people can afford, but not something you'll be able to afford to do every time you fail.
  • If you voluntarily leave mid-heist, that counts as a loss and you lose your Spree. You then redeem any rewards earned up to that point or you pay to continue the Spree you just ended.
Update/Correction:
They're working on Kick Detection to ensure that people who are kicked do not lose their Crime Spree or any spent Continental Coins from that round, and it does not count as a failure for them. This does not seem to apply to crashes or disconnects. Those will result in a Failure if it occurs mid-heist. References from the stream are in the Addendum section at the bottom of this guide.

More on Crime Spree
  • Your Crime Spree can be stopped and resumed at any time when between heists. Even after a failure, you will not have to immediately decide if you want to claim your rewards or pay to continue it. You can come back to it at a later date.
  • Crime Spree levels and Reward chain modifiers are user-based. A client can leave a host and retain their own Spree, and join another Spree or even host their own. There will be a system in place (not detailed in the stream) that handles how clients and hosts are able to play together, Overkill doesn't want Crime Spree to restrict people from playing with their friends.
  • There is no maximum Crime Spree level. You will eventually run out of Modifiers to add to the game besides one that increases unit HP and damage.
  • Drop-in is possible in a Crime Spree.

Claiming your rewards
  • At any time, you can claim your current Crime Spree rewards from the lobby by slecting "Claim Rewards." This will end your current Crime Spree, so next time you play this mode you'll need to start a new Spree.
  • Claiming Rewards will award all the experience, cash, Continental Coins, and loot that was gathered during your Spree. You will get the normal amount of rewards you would from a normal heist, plus additional rewards based on how high your Spree built up.
  • Some "extra rewards" will be added. It does not include a Mega Unicorn mask like Jules wanted. - There will be exclusive loot from Crime Spree rewards.

- There will be some achievements tied to Crime Spree, hopefully to coerce some people who wouldn't normally try something new to try out Crime Spree. But they don't plan on going overboard.

The devs said that there's no ETA for Crime Spree at this time.
But we all saw the Spring Break announcement... sooooo... maybe very soon?
Addendum
I went through the stream again to double-check, and I think I had it wrong.
It *sounds like* right now, leaving a heist mid-way through via intentionally leaving, disconnecting, or crashing results in a failure.

It seems like something that can be abused for others benefit rather than griefing. If you're about to fail a heist, you kick your friends so they don't have to pay the Failure CC cost to continue their spree, only you do.

Below are some transcripts from the stream regarding kicks/crashes/disconnects vs Failures.

@ 0:38:55
So I see someone: "If you crash, it's over man. Same as it is now. I crashed on Overdill. ♥♥♥♥ happens." So, yes, that's exactly why we don't have a- just, "you fail, it's over," and you're actually able to buy - uh, you do not have to make the buy-in decision on the spot. You're actually able to come back later and pay the price at a later date. So if you really wanted, you'd be able to go get the coins.

@ 0:41:10
So because we know our players like to jump in and out of the game, you're able to stop in between Crime Spree. Though if you quit in the middle of one [heist], that will count as a failure.

@ 0:53:05
The other thing to note is that we are actually working on kick detection to avoid unfair situation where a player gets removed against his own will, to avoid as much unfairness as possible.

@ 0:55:30
So I see a question about the kicking again, so "how will kick be handled, if you have paid coins and are kicked, what happens," so we are working on detection so if you are actually kicked you won't get punished by the game. it will actually be like nothing happened. you'll returned to the menu, you're kicked, you're unable to rejoin [that lobby].. that's basically it.

@ 0:56:28
Again, about the kicking question, if you get kicked, you do not lose your Crime Spree. You stay in the same state you just return to the menu.

Is it possible to drop safes with loot cards from CS?

So is Crime spree a permanent game mode or just for the event? :hoxton:
Silverkite 6 Apr, 2017 @ 12:34pm
so a more short TL;DR version of all of this is just "we don't know how to get players hooked into game anymore,so we're adding more nuisance with achievements cause yes"

Ahhh, I gotcha. I misunderstood, my bad :B1:

Yup, but I was referring to the fact that MvM probably wasn't the first...

I assume you're referencing TF2? I never played it so I wouldn't know how Crime Spree compares to Mann vs Machine, but the idea doesn't have to be original for it to be good for the game/community. Hopefully C.Spree turns out to be an overall boon and not a detractor :conwayshrug:

So basically MvM but with regular heists and more rewards? (that wasn't an original idea, was it?)

@Athener, Just to be certain I went through the stream again and I found some details that I either missed or interpreted differently the first time through. Admittedly, some of the things they mention on the stream *are* left to interpretation until the Crime Spree feature is actually released and we have all the details/answers, but for that reason I found all the instances I could locate where they talked about Kick/Disconnect/Crash and their consequences and transcribed them in a section at the end ("Addendum") so anyone reading can determine for themselves.

But it doesn't look great for people with unstable internet or low-end PCs that are prone to PD2 crashes
Athener 31 Mar, 2017 @ 1:41pm
Hmm so I assume crash counts as disconnect, anyway this is a relieve, at least some of us with bad internet have a safety belt :awkward:, cheers for the answer!
