Although they fulfill different roles (atmospheric vs space), the Lycan was designed to fit in any hangar that the Imp can fit into. This means it is compatible with the Ketos and Wyvern Carriers.

As the Navy began to revamp its void-bourne arsenal, it found itself lacking any up-to-date interceptors. When the Wyvern was created, it was designed to hold converted models of the Imp Interceptors, but the Navy found these to be less efficient than interceptors of other civilizations. While the Imp performed well, the fact that it had originally been designed to function in atmospheres meant that it could not perform as well in space.

Therefore, PFS set about building a replacement fighter that could serve in the same capacity as these void dedicated Imps, but perform better. All the while, the fighter would be lighter and compact enough to fit in any hangar originally designed for Imp fighters, so no new carriers would have to be designed for it.

Thus the Lycan was born, a fighter designed from the very beginning to be agressive in both looks and function. With its 6 gatling guns, it quickly shreds apart enemy fighters, while its powerful thrust allows it to catch up to them easily, and its greater than average thrust distrubition on the sides allows it to strafe and dogfight easily.

Today, the fighter serves the carrier fleets well, deploying in swarms to counter enemy missiles and fighters, and filling a valuable void-combat niche. Where the Imp maintains air superiority on the planets below, the Lycan will protect the carriers and fleets above.
