It's out there.
When playing Little Nightmares, you may or may not realize this...but...
You are not alone!

In the game are several occasions, in which you might have seen it:
An obscure, shadow-like creature, that looks like Six (the main-protagonist of the game).
Sometimes it's watching from the dark and then again it appears right in front of your nose, while you are busy feasting.

Have you seen it yourself before and want to know where else it's hiding?
Or haven't you seen it at all and got curious?
In any case: This guide's for you!
Hunger Scenes
Each chapter of the game has a segment, where Six is overwhelmed by hunger.
Luckily for Six, she will find something or someone to eat.
This is where it can be spotted!

In each of these five scenes, for a bit longer than the blink of an eye, Six' shady doppelganger will appear. It won't be visible for long, but thanks to this guide you will know where to look.
Chapter 1 - The Prison
The first encounter takes place at the cafeteria.
When Six kneels down to eat, look to the right!
On top of the cages, the entity will appear to observe Six for a brief moment.
Chapter 2 - The Janitor
The Hunger Scene in Chapter 2 is probably the most difficult one to spot the entity in.
Nothing to see on the left. Nothing to see on the right. Nothing to see in the background.
But our little buddy is still following!

While Six is eating the meat pile inside the cage, it is worth taking a look at the ceiling.
Look, who's hiding up there in the safe distance!
At least someone in the room figured out the obvious trap.
Not that Six is to blame for stepping inside the cage, but you know... 'Grab and Run' is still a thing.
Chapter 3 - The Kitchen
The Kitchen is probably my favorite chapter in the game.
The whole theme of being chased around by a chef was the part, that sold me on this game.
Also the level design was a nice twist to the spooky janitor levels before.
Thinking about it, makes me fall in love with this game all over again.
But I'm getting sidetracked here...

In contrast to me the entity does not seem to be a fan of the french cuisine.
Instead you will find it outside the kitchen, watching Six eating a rat.
Bon appetite!
Like the first encounter: Just look at the right and you will find it.
Chapter 4 - The Restaurant
Ok, sorry about distracting from the topic again, but I've got to get something of my chest...
Was anyone else reminded of 'Spirited Away' during the chase scene?
I mean: Just the way the crowd rushes through the corner, when the path takes a turn.
The whole movement reminded me of the chase between Chihiro and the No-Face.
I could be wrong. I probably should rewatch the movie. And so should you. It's a great one.

Anyhow... the entity... the thing you are here for...
Actually, this one is rather obvious! You don't even need me for that!
So, let's start this round of 'Where's Waldo - Easy Mode'.
Didn't found it?
It's right there on the counter. (It feels good to be needed!)

Anyhow... Notice that the entity's appearance causes the room's light bulb to burst.
This will be important later! So take notes!
Chapter 5 - The Geisha
This one's kinda different from the others.
Get ready to step out of your comfort zones, 'cause the rules have been changed!

All previous appearances took place while Six ate, but this time the entity will appear for a brief moment after the final boss fight. When Six wakes up in the darkness, you can see it in the shadows, where the defeated Geisha will be.
Compared to the other pictures, it is kinda hard to see. That's why I adjusted the brightness a little and added an arrow for extra-guidance. You're welcome.
...
Of course I know, that you don't need this arrow. But think about all the other people, that wouldn't notice it, if it wasn't handed to them on a silver plate.
Who is the Entity?
This guide's purpose is mainly to show you all the different locations of the entity.
I don't have a well-developed theory of my own, but still - if you are interested - I'm gonna share with you some points that I found quite interesting to start with.
Where to start?
Even though it's kinda obvious - the fact that the entity looks like Six and follows her through her journey gives room for two interpretations, that could be used as the foundation for further thoughts.
  • On the one hand we could assume that the entity is a part of Six.
It could be something like an explicit character trait, that develops through the horrors Six has to face. Or maybe - even though that's quite a jump - Six suffers from amnesia and the entity is just her former self that's starting to come back piece by piece.

  • On the other hand we could think of the entity as a different being, that's trying to take over Six. Think about it. The entity can be seen in scenes, where Six' sanity is probably going nuts.
While those are definitely interesting points to start with, let's try a different approach here.
Six, the Geisha and the Entity
Remember when I told you to take notes about the light bulb that bursted in Chapter 4, when the entity hit the scene?
If the answer is 'yes', I'm very proud of you. You make me feel, that my effort here isn't going to waste.
If the answer is 'no',... well... that slightly hurts my feelings.

Ok, don't expect anything crazy right now. This won't be ground breaking.
But where do we see bursting light bulbs apart from chapter 4?
Right. At the final hallway to freedom.
You know. That final walk where you felt so mighty after absorbing the Geisha's powers, but also a bit guilty, because you became, what you've fought prior?
Yeah! Exactly that hallway!

But you didn't absorb the Geisha's power, did you? The light bulbs burst just like back in chapter 4.
Bursting light bulbs? That's not something that happens around the Geisha. If she was the cause for this, there probably wouldn't be that many light bulbs installed in the restaurant, as long as she's around (and in charge - I assume).

Also, after the final boss fight, you can see Six absorbing some dark foggy energy from her surrondings. It is worth noting that this energy does not emit from the Geisha, but from the darkness around them.

Therefore, I am sure, that Six doesn't obtain these needy psychic powers from killing the Geisha, but from the entity.

Now why is this important? I mean, whether it's the Geisha's power or someone elses:
Who even cares?

I think that it's important to draw a strict line between the Geisha and the entity, in order to find the answers to their connection to Six.
Because - even though I just cancelled out, that Six obtained her powers from the Geisha - it's still likely that the Geisha and the entity share similar powers.

So, let's take a look at the Geisha. It might give us some new perspectives.
The Paintings
When strolling through the Geisha's rooms, you will find a lot of interesting paintings.
So let's have a look at some of them.

One of them shows her and four others. While the game doesn't tell us who the other four are, it is an interesting detail that they are five. It makes me wonder about Six...

In the bedroom you can also find the portrait of a child wearing a yellow raincoat.

So, if we assume that there's a connection between the Geisha and Six, we also should ask for a connection between the Geisha and the entity.

There's another portrait of a girl, that looks similiar to Six, but
isn't wearing a raincoat. You might argue, that that's Six.

But think about that: The picture, we found prior, is hidden behind
a blanket. Someone drew over her eyes. Hiding her face. It looks
like the person who did it, feels deep grudge against her.
So - assuming that the Geisha did that - we have to ask ourselves:
Why should she do this to a picture of Six,
but leave the other one hanging?

I think, that that's the case, because we are looking at another girl.

But... if she isn't Six, then... Who is she?

Her picture can be found in the bedroom, close to the portrait of Six. There aren't that many paintings in the bedroom, so there must be some sort of importance to her.
At first I thought that it could be simply the Geisha at a young age and didn't thought of it as notable. But then a guy in the comment section, named Gabriel, brought this to my attention..

During the Chase Scene in Chapter 4.
In the same corner, that earlier made me nerding out over 'Spirited Away'.
In this specific place, there is one big painting of the Geisha and the girl, that missed my attention.

This seems to proove, that the girl and the Geisha are two different persons

Now that on the one hand we can assume that it's not Six and on the other hand it isn't the Geisha either, we still have to ask:

Who is the second girl?
and
Could she be the entity?

Bare in mind, that excluding other characters from being the girl, does not necessarily mean, that she has to be the entity! But it's definitely a hint worth considering.

You could argue, that there's not enough proof yet to exclude Six from being the other girl.
Also you could argue, that the girl is indeed the Geisha at young age and that the painting in Chapter 4 displays the Geisha and her mother.
Honestly, I believe there are several paths that you could choose for further investigation.
Thanks for reading!
With the upcoming DLC and the comic some of these mysterys might get solved.

I hope you found, what you were looking for.
Maybe my thoughts help you develop your own theory.
Or maybe atleast my nonsense encourages you to find it.
Whatever it may be. I wish you the best of luck unraveling this game's secrets.
Credits
Thanks to Raicho for pointing out, that the island at the end of the game is actually the top of the ship. (It can be seen on the artwork of the Steam Trading Card "The Maw"). In a prior version of this guide, I had used its appearance in one of the Geisha's paintings to draw a connection to Six.

Thanks to Pandavogel for telling me about the painting of the girl in the yellow raincoat and where to find it.

Thanks to Gabriel™, who wrote in the comment section about the painting in chapter 4.
You brought up some crucial details! It really helped a lot!
