Why is MMR so hard to gain?
People often say how they cannot gain mmr no matter how many games they play.

You can find people with thousands of hours in Dota 2 but still in 3k, or even lower. The thing is, it is hard to gain MMR without losing it right back. Extremely hard.

For example, a person who is 2500 MMR who wants to get to 3000 MMR needs to get better than about 12% of the entire Dota 2 ranked popoulation. 12% is hundreds of thousands of players, and you are not going to get better than all these players overnight.

Here is the representation of the majority of the Dota 2 MMRs.

Getting from 1K to 2K is hard because you have to get better than 20% of all Dota 2 ranked players.

Getting from 2K to 3K is hard because you have to get better than 30% of Dota players.

The point is that you have to learn and develop skills to get better fast. Spamming pub matches is simply not the way to get better as an overall player.

In order to gain MMR, you must do so gradually and you must be superior to others.

Realize Your Mistakes
If you watched Miracle- play mid, you would probably say, "He gets a lot of last hits and denies, and sometimes hits the enemy mid laner, don't I do the same thing?". The thing that makes players better than others is how they make less mistakes than less superior players. Miracle- might have harrassed the enemy mid laner better than you could have done or gotten more last hits than you. The thing is, you know all the same skills he knows, he just does it with less mistakes.

Even if you die 1 less time a match than usual, you will increase your likelihood of winning a match. What you need to realize is that what makes a player better than another is that they make less mistakes.

For example, a 3k player goes farming on the enemy side of the map with no vision 40 minutes into the game. He gets picked off by a gank after he fails to escape. The enemy pushes and he respawns in time to defend barracks.

The situation does not seem that bad because of how the enemy could not push structures, but really he has given about a 1000 gold lead to his enemies, lowering his chances of winning the game.

You, as a player, need to realize your mistakes and fix them.
Learning
If you really want to get better, you must watch videos and see how better players play and learn their skills.

Watching Miracle- playing Invoker can teach you combos you didn't know how to do before. See how he does it, and then practice it until you are comfortable with it in a bot match or in party match. Then, go into ranked with your newly acquired skills and outplay your oppenents to victory.

It may not be the most enjoyable way to play, but it is a great way to learn new heroes and to learn how to increase your skills as a player.
Do you really have what it takes to gain MMR?
As proven, it takes time. Lots of time. In order to gain mmr. Most people do not have the time to learn and master the game like top players like Miracle- or w33haa.

People have to go to school, work, or take care of other things. Playing a game isn't a priority.

Gaining MMR effectively takes the attitude of a player who takes the game seriously and prioritizes it highly in their lives. You rarely see any players above 5K that don't have atleast 4000 hours, an immense amount of time.

Do you really want to put in the time to get better? If you do, you can, just put in the time and effort. Like any hobby or skill, it takes long periods of time to master and get good at it.

If you are in the 2K bracket, there is a reason. You don't put in the time and effort to be a better player, it is that simple. You don't correct mistakes, you just continue to make them and get used to making them.

The attitude of thinking you are better than your bracket is egotistical and is not the way to gain MMR. If a player is truly better than their bracket they are in currently, they would give their team the edge to win more games than lost, making them gain MMR and placing them out of the bracket at which they were superior in.
The Key to Gaining MMR?
Time. Lots of it. It's that simple. You can accelerate the process of getting better by learning from pros and better players, but it will still take an immense amount of time.
The real question to whether you can gain MMR is : Do you really have enough time to commit to getting better?
Most people don't, and that is why most people have 50/50 winrates. You can be the outlier, just put in the time.
