Important Tips For Newbie Investigators
By Lemme Cleanse
This guide is for newbies coming into the game. This applies for those whose level is between 1-20 mostly, but anyone can benefit it. I've played 150 hours of this game, so I have an very good idea of how the game plays.

~~Important Tips~~
1. Corey, the bat medic
Corey is known in the game as the "battery medic." He is called that because his specially allows him to charge everyone's batteries within his vicinity. Everytime Corey picks up a battery, he recieves battery 50% charge for himself and closeby investigators (within 15 meters or 50 feet) recieve a battery 30% charge. That 30% is split between the nearby investigators. Nevertheless, this can really help the group. But many people hog batteries away from Corey. Please don't do this. Encourage Corey to pick up the batteries every now and again. When you see a battery, press "C" to point it out for him to get.

2. Stun and run
If the monster is close enough, you can flash him with your flashlight to stun. He will let out a roar as he is stunned for about two seconds. This is when you want to turn around and run away from the monster as fast as you can. The monster will have to disappear automatically a few seconds after each time he's stunned by a flashlight. Try to also stay with the group while running away just in case you get caught. DO NOT stun and stare at the monster. Yes, your flashlight can slow him down, but you walk 30% slower when walking backwards and that makes it not enough to get away. Just turn around and run away as fast as you can. You can throw glowsticks on the ground by pressing and holding "Q" as you run away to slow the monster. If you run out of stamina, you can turn around and backpedal for just a little and use your light to slow the monster before turning back around and fleeing so more. Or if there is a teammate with a powerful flashlight with good range, let them do the slowing down while you just focus on escaping to safety.

3. Stay with the group at all times

This game is designed to be a team effort where everyone has each other's backs. Disbanding from the group and finding clues on your own is made very intentionally dangerous by the game designers. You will always die if you are alone. This game is very pitch black so always keep track of where the group is headed or you can get lost very quickly. Monsters love it when you are separated. Even being just 10 meters away from the group is enough to make the monster confident in going in to grab you. Some monsters even have powers intended to separate the group, making the investigators' job a lot harder. Use the "quick chat" feature of the game to alert the group you are lost and loudly click your flashlight on and off to signal your location. They should walk out and start clicking their flashlights to acknowledge you and hopefully alert you of the group's location to help you rejoin them. Clicking the flashlight can be both heard and seen so keep an eye out. If you are ever truly lost, as a last resort, press "G" to yell and alert the others of your position. Just be careful because yelling will also alert the monster to your location.

4. Communication

Communication is really, really important in this game. Every strong investigative team makes sure to communicate in some form or fashion. There are a few ways to communicate in this game: voice chat, text chat, quick chat, contextual chat, and clicking your flashlight.

Clicking your flashlight is actually very important for communication because the monster can't hear it as well. Clicking your flashlight can be used to signal your location to other investigators which is very important if you are separated from the group. You can also click your light just to bring attention to yourself if you see or notice something.

Voice chat is simple enough. Either choose "open mic" in the settings or "press to talk" which requires you press "V" to talk.

To text chat during gameplay, press "Y", type the message, and press "Enter."

Contextual chat involves pressing "C" when pointing your character at an object of significance, picking up or using an item, or when breaking a sigil. It's a means of chatting with others about what you are doing or what you see. You cannot use contextual chat to identify the creature because that would be cheating. Instead, use Quick Chat to identify that the creature is near.

Speaking of which, Quick Chat gives is accessed by press numbers key 1 - 4. Pressing 1 - 4 will first select a subgroup of quick chat and the second press of 1 - 4 will select the acutal quick chat message you want to send to players. Even if you can your mic to voice chat, always use quick chat to communicate.

Subgroup 4 is Chatter
1. Don't worry! I got this!
2. Thank you!
3. My bad, sorry!
4. "insert character's catch phrase"

5. Never turn off your flashlight
I know the game tells you to turn off your flashlight to be more invisible to the monster, but you are most likely going to be traveling in a group, and that group won't be invisible. Your flashlight will never truly die so don't worry about that happening. Also, this game is very dark and having your flashlight off will make you near invisible to the group and thus make it very hard on the group to keep track of everyone in it. And this slows down the team a lot when they are too focused on keeping everyone together. You also move 20% slower with your flashlight off, which also slows down the group.

6. Always check behind you
The monster can slip in at any moment and catch you. The monster is near completely invisible amongst the dark in this game and can take advantage of this to surprise you ways you will not expect. Even with flashlights, it is very hard to see the monster unless he is within 10 meters or so of you. Always check, even if you are in wide open areas. If you get grabbed from behind, it's because you did not do as you should and constantly check behind you.

7. Avoid running
Running does two things to you: it lowers your sanity and it exhausts you. You want to save your running for when you encounter the monster. When the monster is stunned is when you'll want to make a full sprint to get away, and that's not possible if you are too exhausted to run. Running also makes it easier for the monster to see you.

I'll add more later, but those are some of the main concerns I see.
Strategies Monster will use against you
Horror Baiting
One of the ways a monster will try to defeat the investigators is "horror baiting." "Horror baiting" is when a monster lingers just outside your flashlight's stun radius to lure you into staring at him and drain your sanity. Most people will see the monster and try to rush in and stun him. But monsters can be smart and use this against you by constantly moving out of range, forcing you to stare at the monster more than you'd like. Having your sanity drained makes it more likely that you will be paralized in fear, allowing the monster to walk up and grab someone easy. Drained sanity also makes it hard to stun the monster without become paralyzed by the horror of looking at the monster. Monsters with high horror are especially effective in doing this. Subject 23 is one of the monsters with high horror so watch out for him. The DLC monster "Astaroth" also has high horror and likes to do this too. Astaroth is more dangerous with this tho as he has an ability called "Breakdown" that will force investigators to forcibly run forward into him. And you cannot stun monster during Breakdown, making the act of staring in his direction very dangerous.

Corner Grabbing
Some monsters will trying to surprise you around corners to quickly force a grab before you have time to stun. And three of these monsters have abilities that can prevent you from having a chance to stun. The monster "Olkoth" has an ability that can shut off flashlights temporarily, making it easy to do corner grabs without getting stunned. The monster "Subject 23" has an ability called "Unfazed" which gives him a protective shield against stuns for a short amount of time. And Astaroth can use "Breakdown" to make investigators forcibly sprint forward with the added effect that you cannot stun him, making corner grabs easy for him too.

Idol Spamming
A lot of Idol types affect the stats of the their monster or the investigators. Knowing this, some monsters will leave the investigators alone for a while and instead start making a ton of idols to either quickly boost their monster's stats or hamper the investigators'. The more idols made, the stronger the effect. The monster "Rusalka" loves to do this especially since one of his passive abilities makes his skill usage increase by 6% for every idol summoned. This allows Rusulka to spam "Ambush" ability to constantly harrass the investigators later in the match. Any ghosts in the area need to break his idols so he can't do this. With the monster "Astaroth" tho, you may want to avoid breaking idols because Astaroth's passive ability gives him an instant 15% recharge on his abilities each time he summons an idol, and this will happen regardless if you break them.
How to counter each creature
Each creature has a unique playstyle and must be fought accordingly.

Olkoth

Despite being the default monster, he's one of the hardest to fight. There are a couple things you should keep in mind when facing him.

One thing is Olkoth's "shutdown" ability that that momentarily turns flashlights off. Most people freak out when he turns the lights off and just stand around and look for him, and that is a mistake. Even some high level players seem to make this mistake. The group should run and get away from their current location as fast as possible until the lights turn back on. Must sure the group stays together and that everyone is running in the same direction. Since it's so dark during "shutdown," another thing that helps is to press "G" to shout as you run to give the group your location and make it easier to keep track of the group. (One thing tho, don't shout if you are Anne Marie. Anne Marie's negative trait speeds up the monster every time she shouts.) Another mistake made is getting yourself into a corner when Olktoh is monster. Being in a corner means he can cut off your escape when he uses "shutdown." So avoid creating those opportunities for him.

Another thing to worry about is Olkoth's "decoy" ability. It produces a weird blue glowing bulb that sounds like a tape and can even confuse your own compass. You'll be trying to use compass to find the next clue but instead be constantly lead back to the decoy and slowing the investigators down. To counter this, only one person should ever use compass at a time. If you find a decoy or an actual clue, then someone else then volunteers to use compass, etc, to keep the game moving.

I'm triggered that you guys are calling Rusalka and Darcy "him"

Though Darcy has an outline on the teleported guy anyway, so shouting will only be beneficial for him.
