Update: 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:50pm

GENERAL:
- Some portions of the rulebook have received some overhauls, mostly to organize information better but also to cover more edge cases. Most notably, an adjustment to the rules regarding changing characters was made.

CRYSTAL SOULS:
- H.R.T. has received minor wording touch-ups for congruency with how Clicker is structured.
- Hollow Crystal Heart has received a formatting/wording facelift for modern standards.

HOPE VS. DESPAIR:
+ A late arrival has found its way into the Loot deck in the form of the Hope's Peak Yearbook.
- Robo Justice Suit has received a general wording facelift to better reflect gameplay intent.
- [Danganronpa 2] Remnant of Despair ~ Teruteru Hanamura has received some small formatting/wording improvements - ability functionality unchanged.
- Despair Video's ability has been tweaked to clarify that the player killed is the one that Loots.

MADNESS REIGNS:
+ New content! In addition to the usual smattering of new additions to the Loot, Treasure, and Monster decks, four new characters have been added!
+ Buckets has a new scripted coin which accurately reads out the intended value of its result.
+ Rider's character card now sports a fancy alt art using a shot from Furi Demake.
- Sky's "Our Destiny?" and Dimitri's "Royal Lineage" have had their wording tweaked accordingly to the changes made to the "changing characters" portion of the rulebook.
- Surge Demon has had its art redone to feature original pixel art. It has also received a small wording touch-up and a reward tweak - now awarding 2 Loot and a Charge Counter for the active player to place on any card they wish, instead of 3 Loot.
- Poison Oak has received another wording touch-up to clarify its reward and ditch the Plague Counters that are actually no longer even featured in the Ark Collection. The bag of them has correspondingly been removed from the bag of special counters.
- The Line has had its ability rewritten to use the tap symbol instead of the sticky-note. Its mechanics are unchanged.
- A red highlight has been added to the "While this is active" part of King Conga's effect text to improve visibility.
- Zera's ability has been touched up to clarify healing happens at end of turn, rather than "between turns."
- Phantom Manor has been completely overhauled to be a much simpler way of handling the same intended theming.

MEET YOUR MAKER:
+ New Soul Stones, including Prince Dimitri's and some of the new arrivals to Madness Reigns, have been added to the Soul Stone deck.
+ God Forms for the new characters in Madness Reigns have been added.
+ There are new ways to ascend! Fight through the pain and ascend through the "Bonus Soul" Rites of Agony, which awards Ascension instead of a Soul, and wield the Godtuner to exchange Souls for godhood!
+ A new Godlike figure awaits your challenge...

Update: 28 Dec, 2023 @ 5:21pm

AVALICE AWAITS:
- Milla the Hound has received a small wording update clarifying her intended functionality - she switches to her second state when she would be destroyed.

MEET YOUR MAKER:
+ I am finally taking matters into my own hands—two characters' Soul Stones have been added with custom art from yours truly.
- Soul of Tenacity has received a tweak to make it less wordy - now counters on it can be paid off at any time, but you can't gain Souls while counters are on it.
- A small change was made to the first page of the accompanying rules handout to account for other ways of gaining Ascension.

CURTAIN CALL:
+ New accolades are joining the fray, with Banes, Idols and even a card that uses Stat Tokens now having their own shoutouts.
+ Three new Hearts, for Milla Basset, Remedy, and Shuichi Saihara, have been added to the Heart deck.
- Heart of Badeline has received a small buff that brings it closer to the function of the card it's emulating - it now allows you to recharge cards you control after dying and gives you money for those you don't.

THE PADDED ROOM:
+ A smattering of new Loot cards based on the terrible card game designed to waste everyone's time, Blokes, were added.

NEW SIDE CONTENT PACK:
+ Welcome to Beyond the End Wall! This Side Content pack is dedicated to Hope/Despair Token cards that aren't themed around Danganronpa, so I can continue to experiment with the mechanic without damaging the theming of Hope vs. Despair. This pack is launching with a paltry 3 cards, but I hope to add more!

OTHER:
- The box containing the Chaos Collection has been updated, with Avalice Awaits replacing Stand Proud on the left side's iconography and the back having more comprehensive credits.

Update: 6 Dec, 2023 @ 7:45pm

[UNDER CONSTRUCTION]:
The replacement of Stand Proud has finally arrived. Welcome to Four Souls: Avalice Awaits. a new expansion pack based on the Freedom Planet platform game duology. This pack adds 6 new characters, nearly a hundred unique new cards, and some new common homebrew mechanics to boot. I hope you'll consider checking it out!

MADNESS REIGNS:
- The "Milla the Hound" Companion card has been moved from this expand's Event deck to that of Avalice Awaits.

MEET YOUR MAKER:
+ God Forms for the new characters added via Avalice Awaits have been added.

Update: 22 Nov, 2023 @ 9:05pm

MADNESS REIGNS:
- Fixed an issue where the Room deck wouldn't display properly. Apparently the link leading to it was broken, which is weird because I don't think I altered that Room deck in the previous update at all? Ah, well. It's fixed now. I've added a couple new Rooms to it too.

MEET YOUR MAKER:
- Soul of Duality has received a nerf; it no longer gives its player an additional attack. This was actually supposed to be in the previous update anyway, but it wasn't due to an exporting error. Oops...

Update: 11 Nov, 2023 @ 8:17pm

CELESTE: CRYSTAL SOULS:
- Theo has received a long-awaited (At least on my end) rework! While the somewhat RNG-reliant core of the character is still present, he has new avenues for using his abilities that should facilitate some fun synergies. See inside for full details.
- Madeline, Badeline and Theo have received new alternate art states for their character cards, using art from the Alternate Universe Playbook.
- A Moment's Respite has been retooled to partially benefit you based on which aspects of your turn you left unused, rather than forcing you to end your turn immediately for any amount of benefit.

HOPE VS. DESPAIR:
+ New students have joined the curriculum! One more character from each Danganronpa game—Byakuya Togami, Nekomaru Nidai, Tenko Chabashira and Monaca—have joined the roster of playable characters. They've been in development for a while, with playstyles ranging from conventional to experimental, so I encourage experienced Chaos Collection players to check them out!
- Dance Bullet has been corrected such that its second option prevents purchasing entirely.
- Poisoned Protein has been reworked, to patch up the exploit of technically being able to pay 0 Health infinitely many times. It now gives its owner -1 Health (To a minimum of 1), but lets them increase any instance of damage they deal by 1.
- Ultimate Supreme Mischief has been nerfed, such that the swapped items now need to be controlled by other players. Swapping another player's item with a shop item, then buying said item let the player get too much personal benefit out of this item, which went against the design intent.
- The ability of Make Some New Friends! has been tweaked to remove redundant effect text written for a defunct version of the definition of a Companion.
- Fixed an issue where Nanokuma Swarm erroneously had a Monster card back instead of a Loot one.

MADNESS REIGNS:
- Fixed an issue where the number of Glazed Honeys in the Loot deck was 1 instead of 2.
- Peg of Magic Power has been updated to use the [Tap] and [Paid] symbols in its effect text rather than writing them out. Its effect is unchanged.
- Cursed Eye has had its timing corrected - it now reveals the top card of each deck immediately after your Loot Step, such that you don't reveal the top card of the Loot deck and then immediately Loot it anymore.
- Fountain of Blood and Tithe Box received wording updates to be more consistent with how Curses are handled.
- Chaos Champion's ability has been corrected to indicate it cannot be used in an attack proper. Being able to send an Ally with infinite Health would be rather silly.
- An Absurd Amount of Buffalo has been reworked—now upon its death, it becomes an item with 10 "fake Cents" on it that its owner can use in the place of real Cents.
- Chaos Lord Escherion and his Staff of Inversion have been revised to take advantage of new implementation of [Summon] keyword. Boss now has intended functionality.
- Arena Champion has had its ability tweaked to clarify that the player whom attacks it is treated as the active player during said attack.
- ...But Not Forgotten, the Soul reward for killing a man whose name is lost to history, has been buffed to make the target pay Health in addition to losing maximum Health on "hit." The previous incarnation was only ever really useful when the Monster was at full Health; this adjustment should make it feel like a much bigger deal, appropriate for how hard the associated boss fight is.
- Fixed an issue where Garcello's states were not properly assembled.
- Nightmare Form received wording updates to improve clarity.
- Fight for the Belt has been reworked yet again, such that the winner of the Brawl will gain Loot as well as items the participants bet. This will hopefully incentivize actually participating in the Brawl when it comes up instead of simply opting out.

MEET YOUR MAKER:
+ God Forms for the new characters added to Four Souls: Hope Vs. Despair were added to the Ascension deck.
+ The Soul Stones for Nekomaru Nidai and Byakuya Togami have been added to the Soul Stone deck.
- Theo, God of Sangfroid has received a small tweak in accordance with the character's rework.

Stay tuned—there should be another big new content update coming out soon!

Update: 6 Aug, 2023 @ 7:50pm

HOPE VS. DESPAIR
- Fixed an issue where "IF"/Mukuro Ikusaba did not have its states set up.

Update: 29 Jul, 2023 @ 5:10pm

GENERAL:
- Fixed a typo in the glossary's table of contents.
- The glossary page on Brawls has been updated to clarify intents in edge-case scenarios.
+ New packs are now available in the form of Side Content! Enjoy Curtain Call, in which I've made cards that can only be used in other custom expansions; and The Padded Room, my very small collection of profoundly silly joke cards.
- Stand Proud has also been moved to the Side Content table. Why? Well, partially because it's no longer reflective of my current design philosophies, but also for another reason that you'll see soon enough.

HOPE VS. DESPAIR:
- Fixed an issue where Korekiyo Shinguji was mistakenly labeled as a Remnant of Despair.
- Masked Assailant has had its ability tweaked; the option is now pay 5 Cents instead of lose, so the victim has to take damage if they don't have enough to pay.
- Fenrir Mercenary Tattoo has been clarified, now specifying that it can only be activated while no attacks are ongoing.
- "Let My Feelings Reach You Too!" has had its primary ability dramatically simplified, such that now you may give a player a Hope or Despair Token when their character is activated, instead of the previous start-of-turn trigger.
- The Crossbow's ability has been buffed so its abilities now activate at level 2 instead of 3.

MADNESS REIGNS:
- The "then"s in Golden Apple of Discord and Thieves' Sack have been changed to "and"s. This prevents players from playing them in contexts where Brawls cannot be started.
- Salt Circle has had its ability completely reworked, now effectively locking a Monster away indefinitely until its player decides to let it out. This adds a little extra utility to an otherwise underwhelming Loot card.
- Brain Expansion...has been completely removed, in favor of a new Loot card with a similar design, Deep Thought. I still want some slot expansion tools to exist in my collection, but this was so much all at once it just made players groan when it showed up!
- Sundial has been revised so the reminder text on the [Trinket] tag is now accurate.
- The Phonograph's ability has been buffed--now players can use Loot to trigger its roll ability, instead of having to attack and kill an additional non-Boss Monster for the chance to benefit from it.
- Shuri's Ambush has had its ability completely reworked to improve usability.
- Fixed an issue where Queen Amelia's ability caused Monsters to gain Health indefinitely, rather than until end of turn.
- Arena Champion now treats the attacking player as the active player during their attack. This prevents other players from denying the attacking player the rewards by killing Arena Champion themselves.
- Fixed an issue where Garcello did not have his states.
- Hurtland now properly refers to healing at the end of a turn instead of its prior bizarre "between turns" wording.

???:
+ It's time I make my intentions known: welcome to Meet Your Maker. The Chaos Collection finally has its own Ark Collection-style Zenith-promotion system in the form of God Forms. Show off your brilliance or take on the Maker himself to earn your own personal Ascension, a unique power-up tailored specifically to the character you're playing as! This can now be found on the Side Content table.
- Soul of Compassion's ability has been tweaked to utilize notes for clearer wording.
- Soul of Wrath has received a small buff; it now destroys itself when its controller dies, instead of automatically at end of turn.

Update: 29 May, 2023 @ 9:39am

GENERAL:
- As of this update, the Chaos Collection is fully compliant with the universal keyword encyclopedia created by the Four Souls community. In accordance with this, the definition of [External] and [Summon] have been updated to match that of said encyclopedia.
- [Contraption] has been removed, and in its place is the conceptually much simpler [Chaser] keyword.
- [Fragile] has been added to the keyword section of the rulebook. Only a couple cards use it right now, but there will be more...
- An ambitious new mechanic in the form of Allies, a new card type that you can command to attack in your stead, have been added to the rulebook!

CELESTE: CRYSTAL SOULS:
- Center of the Earth and No More Running received a minor wording tweak to clarify their intended behavior (Using the attack cancellation portion of the ability is optional).
- Golden Strawberry has had its ability tweaked to help familiarize players with the new [Fragile] keyword. Its functionality is unchanged.
- Bloody Strawberry had its formatting tweaked to remove its inaccurate reminder text for [Trinket]'s definitiion.
- Ruby Heart has had its ability revised to be more flexible when thrust upon unsuspecting players, yet more difficult to complete in turn.
- Crystal Prison was changed to use the new [Chaser] keyword instead of [Contraption]. Functionality is unchanged.

STAND PROUD:
- 「Sun」 had a wording facelift to use notes, i.e. to be more in line with official game language.

HOPE VS. DESPAIR:
+ A new Loot card has been added to the deck that makes use of the new Ally mechanic...
- Link Bullet, which has repeatedly been a ruling headache since its inception, has had its ability tweaked to use the Ally mechanic instead.
- Wooden Stick has had its inaccurate reminder text for [Trinket] removed. It also had its ability slightly nerfed in that you must still have the Hope Token it gives in order to avoid paying death penalties, and destroys itself afterward regardless.
- Usami Strap had its formatting tweaked to remove its inaccurate reminder text for [Trinket]'s definitiion.
- The Monokubs' "An Exisal!" has been updated to use [Chaser] instead of [Contraption].
- [DR2 spoilers] The Remnant Gundham Tanaka Monster has received an addendum to its ability, clarifying that he doesn't "heal" when he's covered by the Legion of Darkness.
- [DRV3 spoilers] The Tsumugi Shirogane Boss has had its ability's wording adjusted for compliance with the new [Summon] definition.
- Vengeful Possession has had its effects adjusted to be more intuitive.

MADNESS REIGNS:
+ New content! Among a smattering of other unrelated Loot and Treasure, a slew of itemized Allies have been added to the Treasure deck, and a new Ally centered character—Prince Dimitri from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, has arrived!
- The Demolition Derby Room has been temporarily removed for quality control purposes. The idea was cool, but extremely wordy to the point where most times I saw it enter play, nobody even bothered interacting with it. It may return later in a more pared-down state. Accordingly, with no remaining cards that use them, Crush Counters have been removed from the Chaos Collection's bag of specialized counters.
- Gyro Boots had its wording tweaked to use the official "clear" terminology with regards to notes instead of "remove."
- Usurper Shot was updated to use [Chaser] instead of [Contraption]. Additionally, it received a buff, as its owner now has +1 Damage while attacking Monsters with [Chaser].
- Amelia the Harpy, Anchovi the Pizza Slime, Mimi the Mimic, and Pacifica the Mermaid were all updated to use [Chaser] instead of [Contraption]. No other adjustments were made.
- Kragg had his ability revised to create copies of Really Fast Rock instead, allowing him to throw more than one per attack. Additionally, said Really Fast Rocks received a small revision to their ability to clarify when exactly they kill themselves (After they deal combat damage).
- Weiss Schnee's ability had its wording adjusted for compliance with the new [Summon] definition. Additionally, her Glyphs have received a small visual touch-up, namely to use the rewardless Monster template (Since, well, they have no reward).
- Matzushii's "A Memory" and Lost Silver's "Perish Song" have had their ability revised to make use of the new [Summon] definition.
- The Milla Basset companion has been renamed to Milla the Hound. Why? Hopefully the reason will become clear in the next couple updates.
- The Star's ability had its wording adjusted for compliance with the new [Summon] definition.
- The Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker was nerfed—it now can gain only up to 2 counters instead of 3, and can now be destroyed (But it still can't be stolen!).

Update: 18 Apr, 2023 @ 7:34pm

GENERAL:
- So sorry for the hiccup last Sunday! It turns out that Sta.sh wasn't such a great host after all. I have migrated once again to Dropbox, so the Collection should be stable for the foreseeable future.
