Shadow Phoenix
  • Brand new unit card icon that was made by the very talented r1kko
  • Now has the Vanguard Deployment passive

My last major rebalance messed a few consistencies up. I mainly play with Radious overhaul and it's hard to maintain two drastically different sides of the mod since vanilla's and Radious' balancing logics are very, very different from one another.

Anyways... after more testing, I'm mostly quite happy with where the Shadow Phoenix is since its damage now comes from most of its Charge Bonus but the downtime between attacking with them due to their cooldowns felt frustrating so I've lowered the cooldown and increased the duration of their Shadowcloak ability.

As for Vengeance, he's had quite a bit done for him that I feel helps properly express his personality further; he has the Siege Attacker passive which allows him to attack gates (which a lot of large units already have), and he's now Unbreakable but is also prone to Rampaging during battle.

Vengeance (Shadow Phoenix)
  • Renamed to "Vengeance (Arcane Phoenix)"
  • Finally redid Vengeance's textures. They now look a lot nicer and less eye-soringly contrasted.
  • Vengeance's LOD will no longer go overly saturated at a distance
  • Removed the fog effect that surrounds the unit model

Originally I had conceptualized Vengeance as a Shadow Phoenix but the final lore I had for him was that he was an Arcane Phoenix afflicted by dark magic (but not enough to warp his mind), so it made no sense that his name noted he was a Shadow Phoenix.

  • New unit icon. The original one I had was the first concept for Vengeance that I wanted to go for but as I learned how difficult texture editing truly was I kind of just settled for what I had now but the icon never matched the unit itself. Now it does ...mostly!

The concept I had going for the Shadow Phoenix was always kind of hard to balance out because I wanted it to do really high damage but without making it overpowered but in reality you could just take 2-3 Shadow Phoenixes and pretty much destroy a Lord or Hero. With this rebalance, the unit is now solely dependant on Charge Bonus in order to achieve its maximum damage output, similar to cavalry, making them truly a hit-and-run unit.

Keep in mind that Charge Bonus activates when a successful charge is done, it then increases Weapon Strength and Melee Attack for 10-15 seconds before tapering off to the unit's default values. A new charge will need to be initiated to restart the buff and so forth.
