I've noticed it doesn't work with WMA files, and also if the song is too long (possibly over 20 minutes) it will show in the menu but doesn't appear to play the music if you click on it.

I don't think this is still being worked on, but a loop option would have been awesome!

i dont have a steam file in my program files (x86), i found one in my downloads. i found a sound file done all the crap i need to but the songs wont show up.

Tutorial:
1 - create a "sounds" folder on "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod"
2 - create a "songs" folder inside the "sounds" folder
3 - put your mp3 files inside the folder
4 - open Garry's Mod ,open console and paste this "t +mp3"
5 - done.

(use "T" to open the mp3 player in the game.)

OK whoever has x86 steam in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod you have to create the sounds folder and then inside that folder create a songs folder and then everything will work

This is how you f*cking do it correctly; the description of this DOES NOT help. Here's how you do it:
1. Download Audacity and lame.dll
2. Open Audacity
3. Open the mp3 file you want
4. On the lower left corner, change the value from 48,000 to 22,050
5. Export the file as an mp3 (extremely important)
6. Go to your computer's main drive (in my case: Windows8_OS (C:)
7. Go to "Program Files (x86)"
8. Go to "Steam"
9. Go to "steamapps"
10. Go to "common"
11. Go to "GarrysMod"
12. Go to "garrysmod"
13. Create a new folder and name it "Sounds"
14. In that same folder, create another folder and name that new folder "Songs"
15. Go back to Audacity and repeat steps 6-14 to save the mp3 file to "Songs"
16. Open Garry's Mod and go to whatever map you want
17. In the console, type in "mp3", and the song(s) should be in a list to the left
That's pretty much it. If you wanna add more songs, it's as simple as this list of steps. Now can everyone stop complaining and play the damn game already?1

The "Sound" folder for "Garrysmod\garrysmod\sounds" or "Garrysmod\garrysmodDownload" is not there,it's in the "garrysmod\scourceengine" folder but the mp3 files won't showup in the "MP3" player even exit and entering the game won't help with it...and no not reloading neither if thats what you were going to ask...

@mikemc010 Garrysmod is supposed to be in the common folder, but for people that used to have it, like me, goes in the username directory

those who couldnt get there mp3s to show up try this its opposite of the directions in the description but it worked for me. make the sound and songs files in the garrysmod folder in the common directory not your username derectory like i seid worked for me hopefully it works for you

okay if anyone can't find their Sound folder in the garrysmod folder of GarrysMod folder. then make a new folder called Sound, and within that folder make one called Songs. Drag your MP3 files there and then go in-game and type MP3 in the console. Bam.
