This works perfectly with the cold war armors mod. Thanks man

@Macelharen I ride pretty good. 😂🤣 That said, it'd be great to see the Chevrons incorporated on uniforms or at least BDU's

you should do flags that go on the back of the armor, that would look cool.
macelharen  [author] 28 Aug, 2017 @ 3:39pm
"it" is just semantics. literally names is all i change, bro
Zacharius Sneed 28 Aug, 2017 @ 3:30pm
does it go on the flag slot for the armors however? where does it go.
macelharen  [author] 27 Aug, 2017 @ 7:36pm
that would be an emblem, mate. hmmm...pretty sure noone's done it yet.
Zacharius Sneed 27 Aug, 2017 @ 4:15pm
does this like go on the back of armors, or can I put it on uniforms?
Paddy11B 20 Aug, 2017 @ 6:26pm
true, but looking at unending lines can be a lot more mind numbing than other methods of modding like say corsix for dawn of war/ company of heroes
macelharen  [author] 20 Aug, 2017 @ 6:24pm
can't believe it took me all afternoon to fix both mods. it's only a damned *.int file when you boil it down. lol
Paddy11B 20 Aug, 2017 @ 6:23pm
I wouldn't call it a crew up, intricate knowledge of the military's rank structure betewwn the varying branches isn't something that is very common amongst those who haven't had it beaten into their heads lol
macelharen  [author] 20 Aug, 2017 @ 6:15pm
Man, i'm surprised i screwed up so simple a mod. Thanks everyone for the continued feedback on both mods of mine...takes a bit of bonking on my head with hammers till i figure shit out
Paddy11B 19 Aug, 2017 @ 4:18am
no problem, i know modding is no easy task, but from your comments the rank structure seemed to be confusing, so I thought maybe i could explain the order a bit better than the internet did. if steam didnt limit my character count, i could have explained each role a bit better as well
macelharen  [author] 18 Aug, 2017 @ 9:50pm
Thanks, cberan2. now, if only i could learn how to do icons like Neonin...i'd be all over the "one chevron+rocker"
Paddy11B 18 Aug, 2017 @ 5:52pm
ranks cont'd

Sergeant Major (E-9), 3 cheverons 3 rockers and star in centre, addressed as sergeant major. battalion level NCO.

command sergeant major (E-9), 3 chevrons 3 rockers and a star surrounded by wreath in centre. regimental/ division lavel NCO.

command sergeant major of the army (E-9S), 3 chevrons 3 rockers army eagle with 2 stars in centre, addressed as sergeant major. senior NCO of the army. Current SMA is Daniel A Dailey
Paddy11B 18 Aug, 2017 @ 5:51pm
also a quick explaination of the ranks: PV1 (E-1) , no rank, adressed as private.

PV2 (E-2), one chevron, addressed as private.

private first class (E-3), one chevron and one rocker, addressed as private.

all privates are basically the army's bitch.

specialist (E-4), shield (sham shield), addressed as specialist.

corporal (E-4), two cheverons, adressed as corporal.

sergeant (E-5), 3 cheverons, addressed as sergeant.

staff sergeant (E-6), 3 Chevrons 1 rocker, adressed as sergeant..

sergeant first class (E-7), 3 cheverons and 2 rockers, adressed as sergeant.

master sergeant (E-8) , 3 cheverons and 3 rockers, adressed as sergeant, non-command rank.

first sergeant (E-8) 3 cheverons 3 rockers w/ diamond in centre, adressed as first sergeant, command rank. the first sergeant is the top ranckng NCO of a company,

Paddy11B 18 Aug, 2017 @ 5:14pm
actually, a specialist ins't an NCO, but a corporal is. corporals are fairly rare now, and reserved for specialists who are deemed worthy of NCO responsobilities but not yet ready to make E-5
macelharen  [author] 17 Aug, 2017 @ 7:55am
because...it sounds cooler? (besides having both "sergeant first class" and "first sergeant" always sounded silly to me back when i was a GM roleplaying sci-fi planetary invasion penNpaper games like MegaTraveller™)

Actually, you're right. i should reword my description to say that these are the US Marine rank names fit to nTex's rank icons (although the picture i use clearly shows US Army rank insignia...i just never really liked the look of marine insignia)
Lemmie check if i can get a four letter abbreviation for "lance corporal (LCpl)" to show up ingame... hot damn, "GySgt" simply scrolls itself horizontally. okay, updating file

Actually, i'll make this the Army mod and make another mod for Marine names...probably makes more sense.
The Great Garrus 17 Aug, 2017 @ 6:09am
was there a reason you put a marine rank in there? Just curious
macelharen  [author] 16 Aug, 2017 @ 6:14pm
Besides, have u forgotten Specialist is a class in Vanilla and LWperk pack? Not to mention the US army insignia for specialist is...an...upside...down...chevron.
Both points i probably had on my mind when i carefully thought through this mod's concept. Iirc.
macelharen  [author] 16 Aug, 2017 @ 4:07pm
no specialist. might be more common a rank in reality, but it still denotes a non-NCO track in theory...and since we're talking about a rank system in a game that promotes to ranks that denote leadership...well, you can at least agree with that much

as for "no recruit rank" ...that's a bit of a misnomer. There is no 'rank' chevron or rocker or anything for recruits in the first six months of them being a private e-1...but they still start out as everyone acknowledges as a 'recruit', yes? and they don't have any rank insignia, yes? I'll go with the common name to differentiate instead of being a purist and making everyone convoluted.

But, thank you for the feedback. I considered the pros and cons of trying to make this as close to what is 'proper' vs ease of understanding for laymen.
Dęąth Viper 16 Aug, 2017 @ 2:54pm
Also private e-1 is literally the same as private e-2 there is no "recruit" rank
Dęąth Viper 16 Aug, 2017 @ 2:53pm
You should put specialist instead of corporal... makes more sense
macelharen  [author] 16 Aug, 2017 @ 2:22pm
i can't really seem to find a helpful abbreviation for recruit. Military shorthand doesn't include "Rct"...and the US army's abbreviations confuse more than they explain. like recruit is PV1 and private second class is PV2...but why private first class? i mean, what's PV1 stand for then? it's just silly. So, yeah, definitely 'based on' and 'more aesthetics than purity'

As a Canadian, i'd be more than happy to make the first three ranks say "private (recruit; pte(r))" "private (basic; pte(b))" "private (trained;pte(t))"...i mean, that would fit even more perfectly into nTex's system...except our chevrons are upside down to nTex's, plus we have silly maple leafs in our rank badges. =P
macelharen  [author] 16 Aug, 2017 @ 1:25pm
true, but then you'd have to manually edit the localization file like Neonin suggests. I'm sure i could have stuck with his suggestions for the naming...yet...I know that the UK rank badges are inverted...and nTex's are upside down to the UK way of doing things...That's basically why i went with the US naming convention. pure aesthetic symmetry really. sorry
That unnervingly happy turtle. 16 Aug, 2017 @ 1:12pm
It matches more with the UK ranking system than anything else though Rookie is still just a product of the game and Squadie is slang for an enlisted soldier.
