[WOTC] Fair Lost Targeting

I can confirm that LWotC overrides this mod. In order to modify LWotC to change the Lost targeting, do the following:

In LWotC's XComAI.ini file (Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\2683996590\Config), find "[XComGame.XGAIPlayer_TheLost]" and change it to 50.

That should modify the Lost AI in LWotC to behave like this mod intended and you will not need this mod anymore.

I just started using this mod with a new campaign, and so far just did the horde mission on the first month, so I cannot attest for the changes yet (the horde doesn't have ADVENT or alien units). However, it seemed to me the new lost hordes that pop up, are significantly smaller in size and have less dashers than usual. I didn't see any related configuration variable or anything in the description indicating this is part of the mod. Is this just RNG or there are changes regarding new lost pod sizes?

Same for me, the LWotC update made the lost targeting back to stupid and seems to override this mod.

I used notepad++ to search my whole ass mod folder and found 2 mods that. Edit it. Including one that bumps it UP!?

You could use Notepad++ to “search in files” (a tab in the ctrl+f screen) to search for stuff like that

Generally helps with any modding debuggin too

Not that I am aware of, I guess maybe the Long War of the Chosen update brought some changes to the targeting, only mod I can think of that got updated.

Lost targetting is handled by the vanilla game, this mod just edits one .ini value (see the image). Perhaps you've another mod that edits the same value

Seems that recently the mod stopped working correctly, was playing with a mod pack, same I played last time and the lost almost exclusively target me now, even if I am miles away and they are in the middle of an Advent squad, anyone can confirm or is it just my game?

I thought I was so clever bringing a ton of flashbangs wasting equipment slots to a city only to be SORELY disappointed that I couldn't tactically lure the lost on top of an Advent position

This mod will have to do <3

Without the mod Zombies attacked chosen assassin instead of my team and she ended up heavily engaged by them

Very nice QoL mod, i've most certainly noticed that lost actually run down ADVENT if they're even slightly closer than my units. Heck, sometimes they stop chasing me and run down a very distant advent that entered LOS. Really appreciate this mod!

Could use a few tweaks still tbh. I find the lost still preferentially target Xcom, even when they A) Spawn closer to other faction forces and B) Have multiple nearby non-Xcom enemies who have no lost nearby, while Xcom are surrounded. Often at the same time.
One or two will target advent/raiders/whatever else, but the bulk of any given swarm will try to surround Xcom despite the above.

It might be because I'm using a modded Advent (Advent to the Galactic Empire), but there's not been any other issues because of that yet so I'm not entirely sure.

The idea that the Lost would even have a concept of "faction" and start by picking a faction to attack (instead of just going for whatever is closest) only makes sense in Firaxis' 100% logic-free design basement. I used to think Firaxis' games had too much RNG, but whenever they try to code something isn't pure RNG, it somehow comes out even worse (ex., AI and LoS calculations).

I encountered a bug with this mod. In the tutorial lost mission, the lost was not triggered at all by my units. After I disabled this mod, everything was fine.

When you think about the existence of the lost lure, it makes sense that the lost would target you more often. You're incentivized to research and use them. However, it still doesn't feel fun lol. So this mod is great and I change the percentages to 60/40:steamthumbsup:

Doesn't seem to work for me. It may be issues with LWotC mods, World War L, or simply that Legendary difficulty doesn't even look at this variable, I don't know. In any case, Lost will 100% prioritize XCOM over anything else unless Advent is sitting right in melee range at the start of the Lost's turn, or the Lost has no visual on any XCOM soldier. I've tried config settings to 10%, 0%, and negative 1000%, the Lost behavior doesn't change.

Absolutely fucking ludicrous that the zombies prioritize you over ADVENT. I was taken aback when 5 Lost spawned right on top of a stun lancer and viper, and then proceeded to run past them to attack my single troop 10 squares away. So stupid.

In case anyone doesn't know, I believe that if you use A Better ADVENT: War of the Chosen you don't need this mod, as ABA makes the exact same change. A Better AI: WotC does NOT, so it is still useful there. If I'm wrong or it's really obvious, let me know and I'll delete this.

@Sivav thats always been a thing. Their priority is something like 9/1 when it comes to civies. They will only target you guys if they can either flank, or there are no civies to hit. As lolic_lol stated, its said by Bradford himself at the start of the mission.

Had to uninstall due to this mod seemingly affecting not only lost targeting but also all random targeting, meaning that there was a significantly higher likelihood of the aliens killing civilians on retaliation/terror missions, this meant that I had to rush like a madman on all retaliation missions and even so the Aliens would occasionally slaughter enough civilians to make me fail the mission.

Honestly I don't get why Firaxis have not just made their AI so that they will always attack the first (closest) viable target it sees, instead of preferring one target over another...

Okay I'm just curious. If I change the 50/50 to 0/100 and make the Lost attack ADVENT only. Then what happens if my XCOM shoot one of those Lost? does it will turn back to attack XCOM or just keep ignore my XCOM and focus on attacking ADVENT only? :lunar2019piginablanket:

@Muscarine After numerous play tests changing the value I've found the perfect split finally. If your playing without World War L mod change the value from 50 to 40. If your playing with World War L mod installed change the value from 50 to 30. It makes lost finally split between advent and xcom properly. Don't ask me how or why but it just does lol. Hope this helps you and anyone else wanting to have the lost properly target everyone near them and not just your xcom soldiers haha
