Alternative Mod Uploader

This is not a launcher. This is a tool for mod makers to upload new mods to the workshop rather than use the modbuddy-uploader bundled with the SDK.

Hi all, I am using this launcher to run Long War of the Chosen on XCOM 2. The issue I had was that Yet Another F1 stopped responding to WOTC after an update around December 2024. The mod creator posted that AML would be necessary to run it, but I am still running into the same issue with AML as I did with standard mod launcher. Has anyone else encountered this and found a way around it? I've already tried the troubleshooting steps on the YAF1 page.

does this require the sdk to work and can it function standalone?
Eric Kotato  [author] 23 Mar, 2023 @ 8:48am
@kregano
Done.
kregano 23 Mar, 2023 @ 4:57am
Do you mind making a troubleshooting thread? I have some Event Viewer logs and don't want to clog up the comments with them.
Eric Kotato  [author] 19 Mar, 2023 @ 1:16pm
@kregano
Sadly, no. But you can try to run it from cmd.exe, maybe it will show something.
kregano 19 Mar, 2023 @ 1:10pm
I get it with both Edit Item and Upload a new version.

Is there a launch argument or something that can generate a log?
Eric Kotato  [author] 19 Mar, 2023 @ 2:54am
@kregano
That's strange, I can't reproduce it. Does it crashes when clicking "Edit Item" for existing mod?
kregano 18 Mar, 2023 @ 1:45pm
Seems like the recent Workshop API change may be causing problems, as the uploader crashes every time it tries to load a ModPreview image.
Eric Kotato  [author] 25 Nov, 2021 @ 2:54pm
So, the problems from my previous comment are fixed now.

Updating Steamworks.NET solved both upload hang and UTF-8 issues, and mod descriptions aren't messed up anymore because they're not trying to rewrite English description with user local language description.
Eric Kotato  [author] 11 Oct, 2021 @ 2:57am
@krj12 Works fine for me. Although there are few bugs:
1. It may mess up mod description and title, so it's better to copy them somewhere. Uploader fetches description for your language and applies that to English one.
2. It works bad with non-Latin descriptions (especially Cyrillic). AML had similar problem because of Steamworks.NET , but it was fixed, so it was fixed in AML too, but, I guess, not in this uploader.
3. After uploading it may hang instead of showing "Success". To actually check if your mod was uploaded or not, I recommend you to check the mod page itself. There will be added new mod in your mods list on success, if you're uploading new mod, or there will be new update in change log on your mod page if you're updating an existing mod.

Also default tags are lowercased, but that's not a problem, I think.

Other than that, this uploader works perfect for me.

is this still working? haven't updated any of my mods in a very long time... seems to be just clocking now.

"Copy the "Binaries" folder somewhere else, in the SDK or something"

Where is the SDK?

Thanks for making this. Wish I had known about it earlier. Makes updates much easier.

Thanks for this!

Thanks to this wonderful tool I managed to upload my first ever XCOM2 mod (and update it shortly after). The XCOM2 Modbuddy still refuses to even acknowledge my mod is uploaded and Modbuddy fails every time with "This is a new mod, getting a published file ID from Valve...
Item creation FAILED. Could not obtain a publishing ID from Valve."

No issues from this tool, other than it hangs on "Committing Changes", despite the mod being uploaded, downloadable and usable.

What/where is the "source project" I am supposed to select?
initium 28 Mar, 2019 @ 6:15pm
Thanks for your response in Discord robojumper. I guess as you say, downloading the Alternative Mod Uploader is still a good option even if it doesn't resolve the issue I posted. =)

@Shining One - Thank you. I appreciate the help.
Happy gaming

I have no idea if this is the best place to ask, but I feel like I'm running out of options.

I've added to my mod list LW Officer Perk Pack, I also have New Promotion Screen by Default (previously worked great). I think adding the LW Officer Perk changed the New Promo Screen mod to start showing a Brigadier promotion level to the game. Only I don't have any Brigadier promotions soldier classes so the 3rd row of abilities (XCom) seems to be stripped to feed the Brigadier level. Not what I wanted.

I've reported in New Promo Screen comments, but Tzarnel hasn't been around for months. I've unsubbed the LW Officer Perk and followed Dragon32's pointers to troubleshooting. Still the problem continues.

Background over. Question to ask-
Would your Alternative Mod Launcher fix this by forcing mods to load in order code been overwritten?
Nebula 12 Jan, 2019 @ 3:24pm
can you tell me where in sdk ?
IOException 29 Dec, 2018 @ 1:10pm
Worked great! Thanks.
robojumper  [author] 16 Oct, 2018 @ 1:27pm
Updated the uploader with some fixes to the API query and made it use the WotC SDK paths if present, falling back to the vanilla paths.
thebodingraven 7 Apr, 2018 @ 10:04pm
Thanks for this one mate. For whatever reason, I just can't get the XCom or Xcom WOTC Modbuddies to play nice with my uploads. I couldn't upload my mods without this.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Unfortunately I didn't find a fix.
Dare 12 Oct, 2017 @ 7:57am
often says "Committing Changes" but never finshes. But the new version is still up.
robojumper  [author] 17 Sep, 2017 @ 5:50am
@kregano
Added it now.
kregano 15 Sep, 2017 @ 12:48pm
Any idea how to update it to have the new official WOTC tag on the checkbox list without having to redownload it?
macelharen 13 Sep, 2017 @ 10:42pm
nothing says "pervy nekkid mods" like fire engine red whiteout
WaKKO151 13 Sep, 2017 @ 9:32am
nothing on the steam workshop and nothing i have ever installed. They might be custom files. Either way, I don't see another way to find out with out the author telling us directly =(

yeah trying to figure out what they are right now lol. we have no lives huh..
