@Mr.Freeze To update a pre-existing outdated table or copy/modify/add new tables into a packfile you'll need to use RPFM.
Regarding this mod you can delete the outdated tables and copy & paste the new ones or simply right click and choose update with all of the outdated tables with RPFM.
If you have other doubts just consult the game's modding guides.

@zerg93 when you update the new rables do you just swap out the tables that are here for the new updated tables from the data folder? Like just do a cold 1 for 1 swap?

@PeePeeActual You only have to interact with the Wh2's main data folder when you want to manually put a data pack file so that It can be read by the mod launcher (example=your custom mod).
Every mod already uploaded in the workshop and specifically the ones you are subbed to are located in steamapps/workshop/content/594570/specific folders with different numeric ID.
As Arslo said a few comments below you can find this mod under the 1204361939 ID, inside that folder you will find the data pack file and the mod's preview png image.

I've downloaded it and ran the game, but the zsebidee file doesn't appear in wh2's data. forgive me, but is there something i'm doing wrong?

This will show you the tables you need for that.

To overwrite vanilla units you just need to have the table with their edited entry in a mod. That will change what appears game.

If you are editing mods then that's even easier.

Is there a step by step guide to just editing existing vanilla units and/or modded units? I just want to add immune to psychology to my ironbreakers with the mod 'better ironbreakers' and also increase the damage for the mod 'dwarf mortars '

For anyone who want to use this template: some tables are outdated.
If you try to launch the game with the current tables it will crash.
You'll need to manually update each of the outdated tables with Frodo45127's Rusted PackFile Manager (RPFM) and don't worry: it's super easy to do.

So I've just had an issue that when I changed the table name for the template_land_units__.loc the table just complete vanished. I kind of want to know what happened to it and why it just vanished into thin air. As well as how to stop it happening again if possible.
This has just annoyed me as I'd finally gotten the unit to start showing up in the game.

Hey Sebidee, thanks for the great tutorial. Sadly I'm a bit at a loss after the first phase already. Trying to make a new Norsca Unit based on the Marauder Spearmen, but no matter what I do and how often I redo all the steps, when I get to the point where I should look if my unit appears, the game simply crashes after the initial screen. I redid the entire process multiple times with only copying, you got any idea, where I might be doing something wrong?

Ty for amazing guide about creation of Warhammer Unit. I successed creating a unit. But, when i tested in custom battles, enemy unit didnt have animation. I don't know what errors. Can you give me some advice.
Ps: Both my general and Enemy's general had animation.

Sebidee, I am at my wits end here. I am trying to make a sister of Avelorn Unit just for the Avelorn faction, but no matter what I do, all elven factions can recruit them. I have the Military grouping table only showing Avelorn, building recruitment is normal, nothing set for her special buildings because I want to be able to recruit them if I confed with another faction. but im wondering if this is the problem. I have looked at unit mods others have made to check what they did for 1 faction only, but I cant see a difference. Any help would be great. Thank you

This is an awesome Template. I've only just started learning to mess with PFM recently and I was able to get a working unit into my game with relative ease thanks to the tutorial with it via the link.

You need to turn off combo boxes in packfile manager. It is a checkbox on the toolbar.

Spent the last 5 hours trying to get this to work. Everything is fine up until the military grouping permissions. it says that there is no matching value found in column unit in main unit table found. But when I try to fix that, it gives me another no matching unit found in another table somewhere and so on and so forth.

at no point did your tutorial mention any of this, in fact it just states "Units_to_groupings_military_permissions is the table which assigns your unit to a military group. In other words it tells the game what faction your unit will be part of on the campaign map.

In the unit field we will paste our unit key and in the military group field we’ll paste the empire_reikland military group which we are copying from the vanilla table." But how am i supposed to go any further when the dang thing tells me it is no valid?


All I want to do is add a saurus warrior unit and i am fidning that impossible.

Do things change if im trying to add a unit to SFO? I can get to appear ingame, but it's name never changes, nor does it description. Also the variantmesh models don't change, they're always regular halberdiers.

Can anyone help me on this?

MoMo, they have moved the mods you download. If you go into the steam folder on the drive youve installed it (C for most people) there is a workshop folder in steamapps, in the workshop folder is content. In the content folder is a few folders with numbers my WH2 is 594570, yours might be same. I just sorted it into date order and looked in the most recent ones. But yeah all mods now go in there.

Also thanks to Sebidee for the mod, going to try my hand at making a unit tomorrow.

Yeh I first of all want to start off by saying, what an amazing guide, thank you Sebidee! I'm eager to start modding and make my own units but I have a problem. I've subscribed here and opened the launcher but when I open PFM I can't seem to find the template in my WH2 data folder, can anyone help?

I got a problem with making a unit.When i try to change ''Land unit'' on main units tables it says my units name doesnt exist check land units table then i change it to the same thing yet it still doesnt work. It jsut says it doesnt work ? Any ideas

I'm not a professional or anything but for those who asked I think (heavy emphasis on think) I might have some answers. In regards to where you should put it, it won't show up if you put it in the mod folder spot, so put it in data folder like normal. @GayedInTheRoyalNavy

Also, in regards to freezing, if you're absolutely sure you have no typos or anything else, try enabling the unit template (this file) as well. I also had to check load out of date mods to get the unit to show up, because it wasn't actually loading the mod.

FOUND IT! Ya'll they moved mods: steam/steamapps/workshop/content/ --> sort by most recently modified if this is the latest mod and open that folder.

Same as the four below - have done a search across all game files for the file name too without luck... any idea? Finally got inspired to make a full unit and post it and sad that I can't seem to find the template... :(

Seems CA did something where a number of mods that used to show up in the data folder no longer do so (out of date mods still do strangely and I'm still able to generate new mods by placing them directly there).
