I only clicked on this to inform you that the game already tells you when a barb camp appears and when barbarians approach a city. And it has ever since I first played the game

I'm like... 75% certain the only reason people still have subs to this mod is so they can occasionally remind the mod author how scummy he really is!
SirTain 30 Nov, 2019 @ 7:30am
I can't imagine asking $5 for a notification mod....
..shut up and take my downvotes...
FearSunn  [author] 29 Jun, 2019 @ 10:50pm
Also note that Barbarians notification is included into the base game by Firaxis with the latest patch.
FearSunn  [author] 29 Jun, 2019 @ 10:27pm
This mod will not be updated. Go for extended version or look for alternatives.
MegaBearsFan 29 Jun, 2019 @ 3:59pm
Since the latest patch, it looks like this mod (and/or the Population Notifications mod) is breaking the mini-map. A friend and I made the mistake of starting a Play By Cloud game back when Gathering Storm released with these two mods enabled. We're only 80-something turns in, and have lost the use of the mini-map :(

Any chance this mod (and/or the Population Notifications) might get an update so that it no longer breaks the mini-map?
Hatomaru 4 May, 2019 @ 3:52am
not update?
Shyning 28 Apr, 2019 @ 2:45pm
Having to pay to keep using this... ?
I would gladly pay for huge mods like Beyond Bruma for Skyrim but for a notifications mod, come on, really ?

I'm thankful for the QoL it brought for when it was free, that's about it I guess.
Outis 28 Apr, 2019 @ 7:51am
Wonder how many free mods the author uses
Izrador, Shadow in the North 16 Apr, 2019 @ 2:28pm
This was a nice QOL mod when it was free, and I may have been willing to donate $1-2, especially if asked, but to force patrons to pay more than 10% of the price of the base game for something like this is silly. After all, like a previous poster said, the map search means it's no longer necessary.
gl5.net 11 Apr, 2019 @ 9:29pm
The map search function makes this mod obsolete. Glad I didn't pay for it.
FearSunn  [author] 14 Mar, 2019 @ 11:17am
This mod does what is stated - reliably shows notification on new barbarian camp spawned event. It is tested for more then 5000 users and works perfectly. Including Hotseat and Multiplayer.
Also note, that my private mods collection is much bigger that this mod and my users (Friends) get much more for their 5 bucks. If you are not interested in other my mods, then probably yes $5 for one notification mod is high price but my users get more. Much more.
Caligula 14 Mar, 2019 @ 10:58am
yes,but if it was in the base game it would be already paid for,and not adding another 5$ onto it. im perfectly fine with donating to modders and creators, but locking the mod itself behind a paywall (and one that only unlocks a plugin for said mod!) is not quite the right thing. its essentially unregulated microtransactions that are in no way shape or form related to the game. the only thing that could make this worse is if after every notifications you had to renew the payment in order to continue using the mod-which,for all i know, may already be implemented,as nobody is able to test the mod without paying for it,which also has the added disability of requiring people who love to use a large quantity of mods in one game pay for a mod and plugin that may not even be remotely compatible to thier collection of perfectly tuned mods, making it so they paid 5$ for what equates to a bit of useless code.
FearSunn  [author] 14 Mar, 2019 @ 10:50am
This is the point - it is not in the base game you've paid for probably $50 :)
Caligula 14 Mar, 2019 @ 10:41am
i was about to subscribe...but then i saw i needed a plugin to use the mod,and to get the plugin i would need to become a friend of the creator, and to become a friend of the creator i would need to donate 5$ on paypal, and to do that i would need to A) actually give in and decide to get a paypal for one singular mod,and B) actually get some sort of constant income in order to pay said 5$. not quite worth it for a simple mod that should've been in the base game, its like paying Paradox 5$ to be able to ley my ruler in Crusader Kings 2 get a haircut.
Gopher 6 Mar, 2019 @ 1:26pm
I'd believe ya, if you didn't create a solid wall against anyone ever wanting to try out your work and maybe drop you a dollar a month for continued good work.
FearSunn  [author] 6 Mar, 2019 @ 5:09am
This is not a business endeavor. This little something that is just enough for me to continue my modding activities.
Delulu 6 Mar, 2019 @ 4:02am
Technically, $35 (7 patrons) - but accordingly, no one ever donated prior, so +35 is +35 :p
Gopher 26 Feb, 2019 @ 11:59am
At $5 a pop, I'm sure that $100 was worth losing the potential donations from the 2000 lurkers for continued good work. Great business model.
FearSunn  [author] 26 Feb, 2019 @ 6:32am
I am really prefer 20 supporters who appreciate my work instead of 2000 lurkers next day trolls. And I am not going to engage into discussion here. If you cant resist to express your opinion how greedy modders are and how generous users are find another place. This mod will be removed shortly from public domain, PLEASE UNSUBSCRIBE. (I cant remove it with 4000 subscribers).
Gialllo 26 Feb, 2019 @ 5:58am
I think that for the author of the mod delete comments indiscriminately is at least incorrect behavior. Everyone should be able to express their opinion freely and politely. However, this is what I wrote:

Yours is a nice mod, but I prefer "Better Visual Notifications" simply because it is free and its author accepts donations from those who consider it appropriate to make them.
I have no problem making donations when I consider it appropriate, but that the "donation" becomes mandatory in order to become "friend" of the author and thus get access to the mod is just another way of saying "pay me for my mod!" and this is the exact opposite of donation... is called payment.
coloredearth 17 Feb, 2019 @ 7:43pm
@Bowen very good point. I wonder if Firaxis knows that people are making money (indirectly) off their content besides themselves and if they would have a problem with it.

Anyway, I went ahead and donated to FearSunn on Patreon - I don't have a problem with paying for and supporting independant work. It's not only the corporations who have the right to get paid for work.
FearSunn  [author] 17 Feb, 2019 @ 6:10am
Please take note you will need Extended version of Population Notification for plugins to function. Extended version is only available for my Friends and Patrons. Read description how to get into the list.
FearSunn  [author] 17 Feb, 2019 @ 2:51am
Update uploaded. Now compatible with GS.
lish7 15 Feb, 2019 @ 11:31am
plz I need you
Cid 31 Dec, 2018 @ 1:00pm
This mod saves my butt all the time. No more barbarians wandering into town from an unknown camp 3 tiles away in the fog of war.
maeron 14 Nov, 2018 @ 10:59pm
Just wanted to say thanks for this mod
Cheers
DB 27 Oct, 2018 @ 4:39am
Thanks! You're the best!
FearSunn  [author] 26 Oct, 2018 @ 9:21pm
Done.
DB 26 Oct, 2018 @ 3:04pm
Would you mind just pushing a quick update with "Affects Saved Games: No", please?

The "Yes" setting messes with play-by-email hotseat games. We all have to have the mod to play.

@FearSunn
Why do you have this mod set as "Affects Saved Games: Yes"? Seems like a cosmetic enhancement that doesn't affect gameplay.
Acii_Siuol 25 Aug, 2018 @ 4:34pm
Would it be possible to get a version of this mod that isn't reliant on the population notification mod?
Illuminatiprimus 15 Jul, 2018 @ 4:52am
You don't know HOW LONG I've wanted a mod like this - thank you thank you thank you!
Zeddy 13 Jul, 2018 @ 12:47am
I second what mrbadxampl said, it's essentially a core mode for me at this point. I see no reason to have to listen for a sound to indicate they spawn, and then search the entire map to find a single camp. Thanks for the simple yet excellent mod!
mrbadxampl 12 Jul, 2018 @ 5:02pm
why this isn't part of the base game is just beyond me
Krystal :3 29 May, 2018 @ 1:39pm
How do Barbarion camps form?
beezany 11 May, 2018 @ 12:44am
Thanks for the quick response! It's great having a button to zoom in on new camps rather than having to play Where's Waldo all over the map.

The game reports that this mod has Affects Saved Games set to Yes, whereas the other related mods do not. Is that a technical requirement for this mod or just an oversight in the modinfo configuration?
FearSunn  [author] 12 Mar, 2018 @ 11:20pm
Updated version just uploaded. As requested range check capability added.
Follow instructions in Discussions (above) to enable.
Baradar67 11 Mar, 2018 @ 11:34pm
Sure, that would be awesome. Ah, so the camp forms, you grab the event and check if there is a city within 20? Yeah, awesome stuff.
FearSunn  [author] 11 Mar, 2018 @ 10:32pm
And what if I've simply add some constant in the begining of the mod lua file where you just could manually set range value for yourself? Like default is -1 no range check, you put say 20 and now you have range check to the nearest your city? would it be ok?
Baradar67 11 Mar, 2018 @ 10:24pm
Thanks for thinking about it. I play on giant maps with lots of open space so seeing these for camps far away is distracting. Maybe make it an option if possible? Thinking of it, is it even easy to have "player options" for mods? I have so much to read up on.
FearSunn  [author] 11 Mar, 2018 @ 10:04pm
@Baradar
It easily could. And I have code snippet for this already from another my mod Refugees where city in some set range (12 tiles) is looked for. If no city then return nil and no notification.
But I am not sure if this is a good idea still. I will think about that.
Baradar67 11 Mar, 2018 @ 8:13pm
Hey FearSunn. Love the notifications, especially popn. This one is great too until a lot of area is uncovered. Big ask here but is it possible to reduce it to a range? Haven't looked at the code but could it be ignored if it is more than X distance from a city or the capital or same continent or something?
WW 10 Mar, 2018 @ 2:56am
good!
Tiramisu 8 Mar, 2018 @ 4:00pm

@Baro
Yes there is! You may just disable population notifications. Instructions:
