Hi I downloaded this map and it's great. I have a question though. The towns are too close together to effectively use trains. Is this a truck/bus only map or is it designed to not connect a city to it's nearest neighbour? I'm not sure how to play this map or how it was designed to be played. Any ideas?

Hi Mr. Bumbling Brit, Your map looks wonderful but trying to change my experimental map size is harder then i thought, it's not as simple as your video so im hoping you'd be able to help me soon.

I hope you can help me out Mr. Brit.

Loving the map so far but any chance of Newcastle getting the Tyne? Looks lonely up there without the Tyne Bridge.
Yeol 9 Sep, 2018 @ 8:41am
Hello B. Brit, I just started on this huge map the first line. Having tremendous fun, great map! Here's the link toward a small video of mine for you to see what I'm doing with your creation: https://youtu.be/bsJBwnNDWng
Yeol 7 Sep, 2018 @ 11:57am
Thank your for the advice, I will certainly do that. I don't want all villages grow beyond 1K population!
Kevlar  [author] 7 Sep, 2018 @ 11:34am
Thank you very much! If you haven't already, I strongly recommend Massive Map Settings by GrandT. This mod will throttle the town growth rate and give the map a considerably longer lifespan :)
Yeol 7 Sep, 2018 @ 11:12am
Just downloaded the map, and loaded it into TF. All went well, no problems whatsoever! I'm restricting to trains only, passenger trains only, no freight, no buses, no trams, no planes, no ships. I'm really very worried about the frame rates. My system is not really high-end.

But I'm eagerly going to dive into British rail history, and research about the Big Four, their lines, cities and regions. Thank you very much for this great, fun-promising map. (I saw your videos: impressive railway networking and decoration! Very inspiring!)

Kimnel Bay is not on the map, but you could quite easily rename a nearby town :)
hdtomo 22 Jun, 2018 @ 11:55am
wow if it says kimmle bay im sharing this and liking until its the most pop

Find your steam folder and go to: steamapps > workshop > content > 446800 Then type "england and wales" without the quotes into search. Click the folder for England and Wales 7k and there you should see the script. Enjoy!

Amazing map has always mate, but can you tell me where do i find the map.lua to this map, because i can not find it. :)
Kevlar  [author] 14 Jun, 2018 @ 12:03pm
I think im aware of that mod, but im not using it right now. If it does what you think it does, this could also be an invaluable mod for this map and others like it.
Staffy50 14 Jun, 2018 @ 9:16am
Okay cool, might also be worth downloading that mod that lets you place roads AI cant build off, that might stop the expansion down connecting roads?
Kevlar  [author] 13 Jun, 2018 @ 5:02pm
As of 1900, there is a number of towns merging together.

It is playing very well at the moment. With some preventative maintenance, I have kept city sizes down and used GrandT's massive map settings mod to reduce the growth rate of towns.

I know I said only 1900, however my playthrough has railways connecting just about every one of the towns now, so its a busy map, as you can imagine.
Staffy50 13 Jun, 2018 @ 11:21am
How does it play longer game? are the towns far enough apart or do they all end up merging?
SparrowPriest 3 Jun, 2018 @ 8:42am
thanks!!
cheers!
Kevlar  [author] 2 Jun, 2018 @ 5:22pm
It is all fixed. You will need to open up the map.lua and delete any cities you wish to remove. I typed each city in line by line, so removing the ones you wish to lose should be a simple matter
SparrowPriest 2 Jun, 2018 @ 12:08pm
if i change the game settings to have fewer towns generated on the map will it work on this one? or does it have a fuxed town counter and locations?
Kevlar  [author] 22 May, 2018 @ 4:17am
Great stuff! I currently have all major trunk lines in place in 1870 and a growing number of branches. Some cities approaching 1k population now. No issues with performance yet. So I think I can put a tick in the box for the "railway mania" period being trouble free.
geoffersh 22 May, 2018 @ 3:54am
Loving this map BB. Started with the Liverpool - Manchester Rly and the GJRly. Have four stations in the London region. Euston, Kings Cross, Paddington and south of the river, Waterloo. Plenty of routes to work on with this excellent map. Just hope that it can cope, once all routes are connected together.
Kevlar  [author] 18 May, 2018 @ 1:15pm
@AUU NU CHEEKI BREEKI ; On this edition of the map, I'm afraid not. I would like to have everything, but adding in Scotland or even Ireland would come at the expense of scale. That means less of the historic railway destinations will be on the map. I wanted a richness in locations and this was best achieved by restricting the regions covered.

@Campbell Industries ; There are some full maps as you describe, but even the 6k+ amongst them struggle, in my opinion as a player, to capture the different regions in sufficient a scale as to be meaningful. I guess it's to each persons taste. I wanted a deeper experience and hopefully this map, for the regions covered achieves that.

@cromagnon2003 ; Greetings and many thanks. I use the BLS fences mod by SwissCH
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1079044992
The fences/hedges are treated as roads. Make use of the shift modifier to get them right where you want them trackside.
Robert Montjoy 18 May, 2018 @ 10:41am
Great Work! Thank you for it!

If I may, one -maybe stupid- Question:
Who did you manage to place the fences and bushes so exactly besides the tracks? Did you place each and evry bush and fens piece individually? Or is there some mod which aligns itself besides the track? I know of "a street" which can look like a row of trees... but do roads algin besides tracks? I experienced it only the other way round, e.g. tracks algining with roads :(

Many thanks in advance and Greetings from Switzerland!
Robert

at least my home town of dunfermline appears in the campaign tho... :P
Campbell Industries 18 May, 2018 @ 8:09am
nice work, but as a scot i would like to see a full island of britain map at some point in the future :steamsalty:
null 18 May, 2018 @ 5:02am
Nice but could we ever see scotland added?
Kevlar  [author] 17 May, 2018 @ 9:33am
Map has not long come out, so it's hard to tell right now. I imagine it has a finite life span, but I could be wrong. It would certainly fit it's purpose though, which was building the historic railways :)
wabbithunta 17 May, 2018 @ 9:23am
oh my gawd... how long, time wise, will it be before you find that this will start to slow down/chug due to the amount of things going on in the game? Trains/Planes/Automobiles going back and forth etc. It does look impressive, but I think on my current PC (new one being built atm) I will have issues
Kevlar  [author] 17 May, 2018 @ 9:19am
Glad you got it going, enjoy!
Duke of Knight 17 May, 2018 @ 8:56am
Thanks for the advice I've now managed to get the map working, and love it

Come to Douglas!
BrokenButler 17 May, 2018 @ 3:32am
pls add a town on the Isle of Man. even if it is just for the Memes :D
Ant Craft 16 May, 2018 @ 11:05am
Yay! I can finally run trains to my home town, Gloucester!
Kevlar  [author] 16 May, 2018 @ 6:37am
Too early to say for me. Be assured that as of 1875, with 12 passenger lines and a lot of added details, its as good as new!

I'll be watching for news on performance closely.
RED 16 May, 2018 @ 3:29am
how's the performance on this map?
Kevlar  [author] 15 May, 2018 @ 2:53pm
If maximum map size is unlocked or extended, sure, could be interesting.
AlwaysRM 15 May, 2018 @ 2:22pm
I hope one Day we can make a map of this scale of all of Great Britain and Ireland.
Kevlar  [author] 15 May, 2018 @ 1:43pm
I could have added more, but you have to stop at some point, right! I'd be very interested to know what kind of mileage this map has, performance wise.
AlwaysRM 15 May, 2018 @ 1:39pm
130+ TOWNS?
Man i think i'm gonna need an new PC....
Kevlar  [author] 15 May, 2018 @ 9:26am
Thank you very much. I was wondering what community thoughts were on 1:1 scale or others close to that. Some serious magnification of regions is something im looking at closely.
SpecialistZer0 15 May, 2018 @ 12:51am
Thank you Bumbling Brit, you have put a lot of hard work into this map, very enjoyable. I'll look forward to more regional maps from you as I prefer 1:1 Scales for realism. I think you made the right cjhoice by letting players place their own industry. Well done and Keep up the good work.
SlimNasty™ 14 May, 2018 @ 10:48am
to Crayax, you probably need to amend your settings config so you can play experimental map sizes, if you google it, it will tell you what to do in more detail.
Kevlar  [author] 14 May, 2018 @ 10:18am
I did think about doing that, but then I figured that the arrival of the railways would have resulted in a lot of new industry springing up around it, hence the idea that players could use mods to place their own stuff. So for this map version, its not something im going to do. I intend to make more maps based off this one, though, so maybe something along those lines will appear in future.
Redstar8368 14 May, 2018 @ 10:14am
Would it be possible to get a version with historical placements of industry?
Kevlar  [author] 14 May, 2018 @ 9:20am
I don't know why that would happen, everyone got the same map :/
