Wow! This mod is a game changer! I've been struggling to play this game again because the font has been straining my eyes at 1440p. This makes everything readable and comfortable. GREAT MOD

Looks nice! The scaling is now perfect. Great work!

Markonex, based on your input I have been experimenting with a method called "Hinting". It works by adjust the display of an outline font so that it lines up with a rasterized grid. I found that it tends to make certain the fonts higher than the original, which seems to fit perfectly with what you're suggesting. It has the added benifit of producing clearer more readable text at the expense of distorting the original font.

I plan to base my Large Font mod on my recent Classic Font mod. This mod uses the Noto Serif font (by Google) which is not as nice as the Crimson font (by Sebastian Kosch) I used for the earlier verion of the Better Font but is a lot easier to layout.

Regarding suggestion to improve readability for larger vsrsion:
1,the only really important factor is the la gioconda 12 font, the most common and critical
2. I suggest to work on it, mainly by improving its main weak point, the height, so to avoid too much clipping, in horizontal, especially for Italian words that are longer than English ones, I propose you to generate a copy of the la gioconda 12 font with same length and spacing of the one you already use in your mod, but with 14 height, then, if does not cost too much time, also a 13 height version for people having clipping issues. Tomorrow if you want I can send the base font I really would like you work on, I saved it from your older mods. Many thanks for all your effort!! Larger font mod 2k is not really useful as it generates too much clipping in Italian.

I think you're mod is really good, I use a 27 inch 1920*1080p, maybe you could set a different version or screens with 81.59 dpi, but in the end the previous version work quite good for me, I just noticed that clipping is generally easier in horizontal than in vertical :))
Dino  [author] 30 Aug, 2018 @ 6:13am
No. The glyphs are stored as bitmap in a CUF file format and can not be scaled and sampled dynamically. It would be nice if CA could add this feature to their games instead of the interpolation method of scaling used by their UI scaling feature. FYI I use a 27in 1440p monitor. . Even at this resolution I don’t have a problem with the font size used by this mod. And even if I did, according to the Steam hardware survey only 5% of gamers use monitors above 1080p.

Given ‘Larger Font for 2k/4k’ is the most popular font mod, I’m slowly warming up to the idea of releasing a large font version. If you or anyone else has any ideas on how to increase the font size while keeping clipping to a minimum and at the same time improving readability I would appreciate the input.

Ok so my 27 inches full HD screen will self adapt now? It is better for me to use the previous version to have bigger font?
Dino  [author] 30 Aug, 2018 @ 4:02am
It means all the fonts sizes are now scaled for a 92 DPI monitor such as a 24inch 1920x1080p monitor. So a 12pt font will appear 0.166inches or 4.2mm high on a 92 DPI monitor. This allows me to scale the font to target a different screen DPI. For example a 27 inch 1440p monitor has a DPI of 109. So rather than changing the font size to match the new DPI I can set the DPI value to match the monitor and the 12pt font will be 0.166inches on a 109 DPI monitor.

tl;dr all fonts sizes are now in proportion to the vanilla font sizes.
markonex 30 Aug, 2018 @ 2:55am
What does this mean? Scaled for 92 DPI screens?

THANK YOU Markonex
markonex 26 Aug, 2018 @ 4:20am
The last version you released is great, the best of all, keep it forever, optimum balance and readability!
markonex 26 Aug, 2018 @ 1:39am
Ok DMKA, you're super and your mod is a miracle after 5 years of stupidly microfont :)) Thank you very much for all the effort :)
Dino  [author] 24 Aug, 2018 @ 2:16am
Markonex, I have changed my mind. Rather than releasing larger font versions of this mod. I prefer to focus on quality rather than quantity as my time is limited. So I have made the font in this version more readable, by changing over to a slab style font and removing the use of small caps and italic font styles. I encourage others to reusing my mod assets so please feel free to release your version of the mod.
RespectedSwami 23 Aug, 2018 @ 3:29pm
Markonex i gotta say man ive been playing with this mod for awhile now, and damn bro it really helps! Thank you senpai :)
markonex 22 Aug, 2018 @ 4:53am
Thank you!! By the way, I created an hybrid version by copy and replacing text files of your previous mods, that may be helpful, let me know if you want that I send it to you :)
Dino  [author] 22 Aug, 2018 @ 4:18am
Markonex, base on your recommendations I will release new version of this (and Modern Font) mod that uses a larger base font, hopefully soon.
markonex 22 Aug, 2018 @ 2:15am
o me, 14 size for the smallest font is good, provided that some minor clipping as a tradeoff to seave our eyes :)
markonex 22 Aug, 2018 @ 2:14am
Thank you, I can modify the few loc voices that clip by my own, so i Recommend you to always keep the several versions in such a way to get as many different types of font available, :)
Dino  [author] 21 Aug, 2018 @ 9:47am
Markonex. thank you for the feedback. I have increase the size of the base font slightly which should now make the font slightly bigger than the original font while keeping clipping to a minimum.
markonex 21 Aug, 2018 @ 5:19am
Old version was larger and easier to read, please keep online also the older releases so the people who please to save their eyes can use it. Now it's almost equal to vanilla small text and less beneficial. I can modify the localisation to eliminate the few clipping strings, no issue
RespectedSwami 18 Aug, 2018 @ 12:07pm
Way better than "Modern Font"!
tonetone 17 Aug, 2018 @ 6:27am
New font looks good and easier on the eyes for me
Working Joe 17 Aug, 2018 @ 4:58am
Thank you for the reply & in-depth explanation. So I'm not crazy then & the TWC tool doesn't work hahaha. I don't suppose you'd be willing to share your tool that you wrote, would you?
Dino  [author] 17 Aug, 2018 @ 1:23am
Fequois checked my Modern Font Mod. It uses Roboto font which is a awesome san-serif font developed by Google.
Dino  [author] 17 Aug, 2018 @ 1:21am
Billy the font I'm using is CRIMSON avaliable from fontlibrary.org . The tool I was using to generate the CUF font files was written by Tellos Athenaios called "CUF (font & text rendering) mod tool" available from www.twcenter.net . Unfortunately this tool has some clipping and alignment issues probably due to rounding errors. The code is very convoluted so I was unable to fix it. So instead I developed my own tool which doesn't have these issues.
Working Joe 12 Aug, 2018 @ 2:23pm
This is gorgeous! Is it based on the Warhammer/ToB font? Also, could you please link the guide you used to make this? I've tried and failed several times to make a font mod lol. Thumbs up & favorited!
tonetone 12 Aug, 2018 @ 1:40am
Man oh man its these little mods that make you say thank you for 5 hours straight. Thank you so much.
Fequois 11 Aug, 2018 @ 10:50pm
Awesome! Looking forward to hearing about the results.
Dino  [author] 11 Aug, 2018 @ 10:21pm
Great suggetion Fequois. Will look into it soon.
Iolaus 11 Aug, 2018 @ 1:12pm
This type of mod should have been one of the first to be made, literally waited years for something like this... THUMBS UP !!
Fequois 11 Aug, 2018 @ 7:31am
This is fantastic!

Is it possible to use a sans-serif font (like Arial) or does it introduce clipping issues or something?
