the main purpose is storage.space.saving, as.each can counts as 5 food units and the stack size is 150, meaning each stack counts as 750 good units vs maximum normal stack of 75 (10x factor)

Hi, I am using this mod for the first time and I was wondering what the benefit is of canned food over packaged survival meals, since you need the research for those before you can make canned food and they both don't spoil.

nice mod, but the cans don't give you lead poisoning, so unrealistic!

Well you are a fancycat after all.

Issue resolved. I was just blind and didn't see the research in the screen.

1.1
I tried it with and without the research pal.
I understand having to ask. Yes i did install it.
Thank you for looking into it.

@FancyCat I tested the mod and it seems to work properly. Can you answer these questions for me?
1. are you using v1.0 or the new v1.1?
2. do you have any research mod installed? I use researchpal (which builds a tech tree on game start each time) and the tech is there. maybe another mod overwrote the Canning tech?
3. silly question I *have* to ask: other than subscribing th emod, did you also enable it in th ein-game mods menu?

I'll have a look at it this evening, thanks for pointin out and sorry for any inconvenience!
I'm assuming, but please confirm, you're playing v.1.1, right?

Hello, I have been trying to get this to work but no matter what Cans are not in the crafting options and neither is canned food. there is also no research in the tree for it.

Kind of wish there will be a Medieval Version of this, maybe with longer work time, or more ingredient wasted during process, or simply shorter preserve time.
Cocco81  [author] 28 Apr, 2019 @ 5:44am
If I remember correctly yes, it canbe dropped (as other items) ina random event. I didn't set any specific flag to avoid dropping, neither I saw any reason to

Does canned food fall from the sky?
lady.mecha 11 Feb, 2019 @ 12:47pm
Canning should be 10x the days your placing it as, actually, to be worth while. Canned goods can last, (for mainly retail health legal reasonings,) perhaps a year, but in actuality they can last from 5-100 years depending on conditions they are stored at.

@Natalo77,
none that I know of.

code-wise it's XML only, no patching existing files and all items tagged as C81_something, so I don't expect any conflict with vanilla or other mods.

somebody reported generic crashes but without any log or feedback I can't even tell if it's actually this mod.

glad if you want to try it and, should you have any issue, please post the logs!

Any hard incompatabilites?
Cocco81  [author] 19 Dec, 2018 @ 2:17pm
Can you post the log where it describes the conflict so I can understand where the issue is? Not even knowing what your mod list is (not that I'd check the code of every other mod...) makes sorting anything out a mere guess...

Its conflicting with something in my modlist, I couldn't figure out what though. Pity, it looks real useful :S

fits Rimworld just about perfectly, nice job
Cocco81  [author] 30 Oct, 2018 @ 6:18am
@SunBurst, the cans will be lost, however this has been accounted with the very cheap cost for cans (1 steel = 5 cans, 1 steel + 1 psycholeaf = 5 preserving cans*). Cans are mainly meant for mid and end game, and in that phase you should hav eplenty of steel from trading and depep mining.

* yes, you are actually drugging food ;-)

However I may investigate some kind of recycling in the near future... I'm thinking about something right now...
An'Mar 30 Oct, 2018 @ 6:06am
Will the cans be lost if a canned food is used as ingredient in coocking. Or does it return empty cans for easy reuse ?
Cocco81  [author] 28 Oct, 2018 @ 11:40pm
Silhouette that baffles me as all items etc ate tagged C81, a tag I've never seen in any mod so i reqlly don't know what's hapoening. Only thing i can think about is: does any of your mods have a research which is after packaged survival meals? Maybe the game doesn't like two techs in the same x,y coordinates on the research screen.

It would be helpful if yu could reproduce the problem and make a screenshot of the log. Maybe I can understand the reason of the errors and the origin of any conflicts.
Silhouette 28 Oct, 2018 @ 7:52pm
It conflicted with something on my mod list, I think. Caused a huge HugsLog of red text to appear, and also reset the modlist. Couldn't upload the hugslog because it was seemingly corrupted or errored (had accents over and under every letter and things looked... bizarre).

Might just be some weird combination of mods, though.
