@RockSmacker Unfortunately, yes, that is how it works. If a soldier already had Tactical Rigging before this mod was installed, then they will retain the extra utility slot bonus regardless of the armor they're using (meaning old soldiers could wear the base armor and still have +1 slot). However, this means they will also not gain an extra utility slot from an wearing an upgraded armor, like plated/powered armor.

Only new soldiers with Tactical Rigging will get an additional utility slot from upgraded armor. This means that if two soldiers with Tactical Rigging, one new and one old, wear an upgraded armor type, both will have +1 utility slot (relative to their minimum number of utility slots).

So the Reaper doesn't get the additional utility slot with powered armor if he already had Tactical Rigging before installing this mod? That's what just happened to me and it's a big bummer :( my other heroes and SPARK got the slot but not Reaper who previously had Tactical Rigging. So the Reaper has only 1 slot.

@Gwynbleiid I'm glad you were able to find the source of the problem! Sorry for not replying more often these days, but I do hope you're able to have a solid campaign with the mods that are compatible with each other for you. It is a bit concerning to hear possible compatibility issues with a mod as prominent as the community Highlander. It was working with the community Highlander around the time I made this mod, so I suppose it may have something to do with a more recent update to that mod.

@Udaya this became a monthly series lol, but i managed to find the problem, weirdly it is the highlander, i did a binary search and this mod only worked properly when i disabled the highlander, i thought that it was very weird so i unsuscribed and resuscribed to the highlander to see if that would make any difference but sadly no, your mod is always giving the extra slot if the highlander is anabled, don't know if you will look into this or if it is an isolated issue with my set up but i will sadly have to drop your mod, either way thanks for you work

@Udaya sorry for replying so late, i tried an unsub/resub with a new campign and it still granted the extra slot, i then tried a new campaign with only this mod enabled and it didn't, so the problem is an interaction with another mod, tho i have nothing else that touches that ability, i will recheck and if nothing appears i'll do a binary check to find the problem

@Udaya i will try with an unsub/resub, i already cleansed the config folder several times, not for this particular problem, so that won't fix it, if i find why is behaving like this or a fix i will report back

@Gwynbleiid That's odd. This is not how the mod is supposed to work; you're only supposed to get one extra use for all utility items equipped with Tactical Rigging unlocked and get the additional utility slot from the armors themselves.

@Udaya i have noticed that even with your mod, every time a soldier gets tactical rigging they get both the extra use of utility items AND the extra slot, is that how it is supposed to work? i was under the impresion that the extra slot shouldn't appear

sorry to say but that seems to just replace 1 issue with another, reaper now has 2 slots regardless of armor but templars and skirmishers only have the 2nd slot when wearing reaper armor(even tho all hero armors are correctly displaying the skill you created and i assigned the skill to the dedicated pistol slot mod's config, ergo them getting it from the reaper armor, no clue why they dont get it from their own armors)

i do appreacite you putting in the effort to try to help, i'll stick to my previous jank fix for now tho

You should be able to go in your Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/268500/1561823087/Script folder and just replace the .u file currently in there with this new one to make the changes occur (this is the directory path for the Hero Armor Equality mod).

The name of the custom ability applied to Plated/Powered armors is called ExtraUtilitySlot, so just tell me if adding that ability name to the dedicated pistol mod's config works out for you.

@TaKo Ahh I see what you mean in terms of the localization change then. That's an interesting fix, by the way. If you'd like, I could recompile the mod for you (giving you a custom .u script file) and make it so the hero class Plated/Powered armors give the user a custom ability that has no effect in battle, but still exists. Combined with that other mod's config, you could set it up so that the custom ability gives any user of a hero armor the additional ability slot.

This would make it a slightly less janky way of getting the extra slot you want on your Reapers.

oh yeah i do agree that claymores shouldnt benefit from it, highlands exists for that, i just tweaked the localization file for myself to say most instead of all

and idk what mod could be causing my issue cause i shouldnt have anything messing with reaper armor, specially since it is working as intended for templars/skirmishers(1 slot with kevlar, 2 with plated/powered) but only breaks with reaper(always 1 slot regardless, even with kevlar or when using armors from different classes)

i """"""fixed""""""" it by having using dedicated pistol mod's config file that lets me make abilities add a slot(made shadow add 1) and tweaked the localization file to reflect that all reaper armors give an extra slot, not a REAL fix, but lets my reapers have 2 utility like everyone, just in a janky way

@TaKo Oh, I just copied the ability description for Tactical Rigging from the Support's Deep Pockets ability in XCOM: Enemy Within - "All limited-use items in your inventory receive one extra use."

I guess I don't really see Claymores as the same thing as other utility items since it's the Reaper's secondary weapon and not an actual equippable item. In XCOM EW, you can see this same thing happen with Smoke Grenades and Supports, since Supports don't get additional Smoke Grenade charges even if they get Deep Pockets (despite it fitting the description of a limited-use item).

The issue you're running into does seem a bit odd to me, but I'm not sure what mod could be causing it. By default, this mod makes it so the Plated/Powered armors have at least one utility slot available for Reapers, but if that "extra utility slot flag" is already set true for the Reaper Kevlar armor by another mod, then this mod just makes all Reaper armors consistently have 1 utility slot.

seem to be running into some issue? reapers dont get an extra slot after reaching plated/powered armor but they do have 1 by default even with base/kevlar armor and dont get any extra when equipping plated armor, regardless of kind(using a mod to equip anything)

i am using dedicated pistol slot but it is working fore skirmishers and templars, also using RPGO but it shouldnt be touching hero classes

also beyond this issue shouldnt they have 1 slot by default and get a 2nd one when using plated/powered armor instead of having 0 and getting 1 with better armor?(i know in vanilla they have 0 but that was also weird of the devs, prolly trying to compensate for claymore)

@Shekel That's strange. All this mod really does is set the "add utility slot" flag to true for the hero armors; it shouldn't have any preference for what you put in that utility slot. At least, no more so than other armors with the exact same settings do.

Getting some pretty consistent crashes when trying to loadout my Hero classes with anything more than the default nades this mod gives them. Equipped AP Rounds and a Mindshield on a Templar and the game keeps freezing up on me as I exit/finish the loadout menu.

@kelmenwong Wraith Armor doesn't add any item slots for normal soldiers, so that part makes sense. However, Tactical Rigging shouldn't give you any more or less item slots (unless you already boosted their total item slots before subscribing to this mod). This mod should only give the additional item slot for the plated/powered armors.

i unlocked tactical rigging for 1 of my reaper, she still only has 1 item slot.
when i test this on another reaper without tactical rigging, i changed her armor to wraith armor (using a mod allow hero to use other armor), she got no item slot. then i unlocked her tactical rigging, now she has 1 item slot, wearing either the standard/power reaper armor or wraith.

is this the intended design?

This mod worked for me as intended by its description. My skirnisher got the tactical rigging ability from AWC and because he had already 2 slots, he gained the deep pockets ability instead. Meaning that he could use an item 2 times per mission. Using a mimic beacon 2 times in a single mission was fun, although a bit OP.

I just completed a WOTC campaign with 104 mods including this one. I can only confirm the build as stable, but the utility slots with this, WOTC Tactical Rigging, [WOTC] Tons of Utility Items and WOTC Vest Slot (amongst other things) did not give the additional slots I expected - and vest slots could be seen in squad select but not in soldier equipment. It may not be this mod that is the issue, but I don't know where the issue is and thought I'd let folks know.

Nope, I started a fresh campaign with this mod, one Utility Slot before Tactical Rigging, two after.

Must be a mod compatibility issue then, though I have no idea what it could be, I don't think I have any other mods that touch Tactical Rigging or Utility Slots.

@TheNiTrex I just tested Tactical Rigging, and their total utility slots didn't go up at all. Is there any chance you activated this mod after giving your Skirmisher Tactical Rigging in a campaign? Aside from that, my best guess is that another mod conflicts with this one.

@DustDevil It's hard to say, but I'll just let you know that this mod isn't inherently universal for all Hero armors, so if your customization packs add any variations of say, Reaper armors, just add them to the mod's config in the same manner I implemented the vanilla armors.

I'm goign to check here and put a list, do yuo think cosmetic mods that changes how outfits are weared interfere? The mod stopped workign for me once I subbed to this hero class rebalance (which doesn't mess with armors anyway) and the Ninja customization pack and outfit highlander

@DustDevil I'm not entirely sure what Hero Class Rebalance mod you're referring to, but unless you have any mods that mess with what armor your Reapers normally wear, it doesn't seem like they should have less than one utility slot at Plated/Powered armor levels.

I think I found a bug, my Reaper has no utility slot even though she is already wearing Plated Armor.

Maybe it is an unintended interaction with "Hero Class rebalanced" mod?

@Old Ben Yup, that's probably the reason for it. I just tested the utility slot configuration, and it seems to work perfectly with the NUM_SLOTS value. I know that the SPARK can have utility slots, seeing how this, Trainable Sparks, and many other SPARK mods give them it.
