And I indeed planned on doing that, but sadly there are 3 problems with them:
a) without map makers that actually include them - they never show up
b) they are bugged, right now they produce beach around them for the wrong terrains, so moddable water is produces beach against normal water, and moddable land against normal land
c) they are bugged - when placing one moddable land beside another one, you get a graphical mess
I'll ask for ficing the moddable terrains again when the next real patch comes out.
Some of my terrain packs (v7 & 8) already contain some of my moddable terrains (I defined a fix set of terrain types, all my packs will have in their specific style later)
Also Captain Midnight implemented some of them in some of his random map scripts - but we noticed they are bugged, so he doesn't use them in the meantime.
The problem of course is that this replaces water, so you can't have both. Would it be possible to make use of 'Moddable land 70-89', 'Moddable shore 90-94', and 'Moddable water 95-99'? I believe that is their purpose and I've yet to see them used. This seems like the perfect opportunity.

I know there is only one graphic for each units animation, so without changing the game mechanic (is possible, but all players need to use it in mp and these specific changes would also need modded ai scripts to work for ai), you can only change a units graphic for all civs.
As there are 5 graphic sets for the buildings this works a bit different I think. But I haven't looked it up until now. So it might be possible to do changes for a specific civ, while I suppose you can only change it for a graphic set without changing game mechanic.
But I will have a look at that after work.
Your game\data folder contains a file called graphics.drs. It holds all the games graphics beside terrains and interface related ones.
To open this file you can use a tool like turtle pack (keep in mind these tool are made by fans and up to 10+ years old beside some of them still being updated).
The graphics.drs contains slp files, which are containers for bmp files. These slp files can be extracted and opened by using turtle pack for example.
After doing whatever changes you want to do or doing completelly new images, you can convert them to the AoE color palette. Without, you cant replace images in a slp file with a changed/new one. For AoE uses a 8bit 256 color palette, the graphics will loose detail and colors if you haven't created them using this color palette all the time.
After saving your changed slp file, you have to rename it (graphics.drs uses the numeric ID for naming, the modded slp has to use the name instead. There are lists on the web, or you can open the dat file using a tool like advanced genie editor to look the name up - or ask somone who has this tool). The renamed slp file has to be placed in the data\slp folder. If you named it right, the game will automatically replace the fitting graphic ingame.
Without clicking it, steam will reload this mods textures every time after your verification of the game cache.
But honestly, what changes do you have in mind?
Beside that, there are some videos of AoE streams on twitch.tv/ageofempires/ that use some of my textures and since last weekened also my lava.
But most of the used maps aren't that good for showing diverse waters, as only the Beta 2.5 Stream has all water types and it doesn't look that good only using one lava type everywhere on the map...
Also sometimes Steam doesn't recognize unsubscriptions correctly. In that cases it helps to delete the mods file manually too (the mod files in your mods folder are never deleted automatically and stay there after unsubscribing)
And sadly, up to now there is no way of changing textures beside doing it manually (Unsubscribed mod files aren't deleted and can be opened with winrar/winzip. So you can change the used textures/game objects when ever you want by replacing them on your own. But while I do this all the time for my modding, I suppose that isn't that good for playing...).
And thanks, glad you like it.
Glad you like them!

@Protoss
Such an option would be great indeed.
And yes, it is unrealistic - to be honest, when I created it, I thought of it more as a resource for scenarios without fishing/ships, like a öotr mordor map or something like that just for adding a piece of atmosphere. I really didn't expect this one to be that popular.^^
@All
Thank you very much. Glad so much people like it! :)
As it is I must favorite it and subscribe/unsubscribe whenever I feel like using it.
Also, it is great that this is usable in multiplayer without issues!
