Dirty fix to disbale logging gifts (which is the broken part) but still automatically open them:
Find "skin_saver.lua" (part of the mod). See line 11 and 28: "local f = io.open(self.file, "r")". Replace both with "local f = nil". Done. Unsubscibing and subscribing again will undo this edit.

@myxal : I've found the json file (as you said in SteamApps/commoc/Don't Starve Together/data) but can't find the "KLEI1" line you mentionned.
It only contains packs of datas in a big array.

Hope CunningFox can fix the issue.

@Nightdawn, this mod is a bit weird, its data is stored in the folder with the game itself.
Ie. (Steam library folder)/SteamApps/common/Don't Starve Together/... (I'm on macOS so it continues into dontstarve_steam.app/Contents/data/skins_data.json; I assume on Windows it would be simply data/skins_data.json).

If you search for "skins_data.json" under the first "Don't Starve Together" folder you encounter you should find it.

Something happened in the game, a bunch of mods that kept data in a json file started crashing. Deleting the file should fix the problem (this mod, IIRC only uses it for history), you can try fixing it if you want to keep it.

In my case I deleted the "KLEI 1" line from the beginning of the file, the rest was valid json.

Today's Game Update (v653007) [forums.kleientertainment.com] re-enabled the io:write function, but it is now restricted to the "unsafedata" folder. However, this update didn't actually create the "unsafedata" folder, so the io:write function is still not usuable by mods unless a player manually creates that directory.
