Will this be ported to TPF2? :D
AngryCats 2 Nov, 2020 @ 11:35pm
Nice looking loco :)
gradyowens12 17 Apr, 2020 @ 7:25pm
Any plans for moving this to TPF2?

Also the biggest reason for UP/SP investing in these monster steam engines to begin with was to cut down on crews for the mountain trains. Adding more then one steamer to a consist was incredibly taxing on the crews because they had to work flawlessly in tandem. We don't have that concern in TpF, we just lash engines together and click "go".
DPT Wanderer 30 Jul, 2019 @ 1:24pm
Well Blasthardcheese last i checked this was more practical than two steam engines put together (the actual locomotive) and the actual locomotive was a slow accelerator last I checked but it could go at like 80 MPH safely but the tractive effort maximum was at 40 or so (I believe that this would be more useful on a Long distance heavy freight line that Climbs a few hills (also the actual 9Fs could go over 100 from what I have heard and run smoothly so of course its not going to keep up because as I said the Big boys max speed was 80 MPH) the actual big boy class was competitive in that it could haul so much with only one engine basically also how long (rough estimates) is that freight line you were using to test with the 9Fs against this? because the way i see it you have to have the line Long enough to make it economic to have one engine or more
Blast Hardcheese 8 Jul, 2019 @ 3:47pm
I love having this big bugger in my European games, however it's so heavy that it doubles the weight of any train it pulls. I'm well aware that this is the way it's supposed to be, but for practicality's sake it means that the big beast has worse acceleration than two smaller freight engines that have similar horsepower put together. I tested it against a pair of Class 9F's from killakanz and it can't keep up with them, so it tends to get beaten to the main load from the station and hauls away the leftovers every time as a result. I wouldn't suggest changing it to be competitive and unrealistic - that would be stupid. It just feels like a lame duck, unfortunately.

can we not argue?

i respect you and your mods that you create
Steve Emfore  [author] 7 Jun, 2019 @ 2:46am
That's all well and good, but also you need to remember that there are also 1400+ subscribers who *have-not* complained about steam being white. I have never had my 'screen dim' because of anything, and I am assuming its something to do with auto-white balance on the monitor.

Here is a reminder that in the UK, most of the time you see a steam engine with white exhaust:

IF I ever need to update the Large Lads, the steam will get toned down a bit. Other than that, it's a joke locomotive that a lot of people are taking far to seriously.
Leon Trotsky 6 Jun, 2019 @ 1:42pm
but steve out of respect, it isnt just me who has had this problem, i have scrolled around the comments and it is a reaccuring problem, i think the easy and suitable solution is having the deault smoke for the train
sorry for my badd english its not my first language
respect, Leon
Steve Emfore  [author] 1 Jun, 2019 @ 11:43pm
I do not have this issue in any way. I have used the same steam colours that I have used on most of my mods. Maybe its an automatic auto-adjust setting you have on your monitor or something.
Confused Crawdad 1 Jun, 2019 @ 7:08pm
I agree with Trotsky, that smoke is wicked bright, like a nuclear bomb. It literally darkens the rest of my screen. It's a lovely model in every other way but the smoke makes it hard to use and watch.
n.chiri 21 May, 2019 @ 12:02pm
@SteveM4 Just wanted to remind you of the misplaced red lights on the blue and green locomotives. Thankfully the black one has it right so it's just a matter of copy and paste a few lines, I fixed it myself on my end but you might want to push a small update for that.
Leon Trotsky 17 May, 2019 @ 10:04am
the smoke is so bright is there anyway you could just fit the default smoke for the train ?
Angry Zeplin Watchers 16 May, 2019 @ 4:23pm
Absolute unit!
power man 16 May, 2019 @ 8:58am
sorry if i sounded rude to you stevem4
coconut_pie 15 May, 2019 @ 10:06am
Innovation.
[SVK] Andrej 15 May, 2019 @ 8:34am
Hello? When I can buy it in game? (Year?)
Bob_Semple_Tank 14 May, 2019 @ 7:23pm
Awesome work! is it possible that an LNER Class U1 Garratt could be made?
Steve Emfore  [author] 14 May, 2019 @ 12:14pm
They're basically the same as the Big Boy, but they're British so they have extra crumpets.
power man 14 May, 2019 @ 12:13pm
thanks 4 answer
guess ii'll have to deal with it

Confused Crawdad 14 May, 2019 @ 10:06am
So what are the overall stats of the large lads? Beautiful work btw
Steve Emfore  [author] 14 May, 2019 @ 9:39am
I'm not stopping you changing it but this seems to be your own personal problem.
power man 14 May, 2019 @ 8:33am
i know you made it that way, but the smoke seems to affect brightness on my game
as it seems to go dark with the smoke being so bright.

sorry to bother or inconvenience you in any way
[SVK] Andrej 14 May, 2019 @ 7:57am
Can you please tell me the starting and ending years?
Dell Conagher 14 May, 2019 @ 7:50am
No. It is based of a real one - the 4-8-8-4 (rus. 2-4-4-2) "Big Boy" in the stock game though. It's just a bit of a repaint and speed tweak in one.
Joseph Stalin 13 May, 2019 @ 5:04pm
is this a real train?
Dell Conagher 13 May, 2019 @ 12:17pm
He won't make it just yet. He's tempted to do it, though, so look out if he does.
A Guy Called Pi 13 May, 2019 @ 11:53am
So you're saying you will? Perfect.
Steve Emfore  [author] 13 May, 2019 @ 11:41am
@legdig Ok I like that, tempted to make a half size 2-4-4-2.

But I wont.

But I am tempted.
Legdig 13 May, 2019 @ 11:38am
THE COLOSSAL CHILD.
A Guy Called Pi 13 May, 2019 @ 10:34am
Steve, you're a maniac. Should I be worried?
Steve Emfore  [author] 13 May, 2019 @ 10:02am
I know. I made it like that because I prefer it that way.
power man 13 May, 2019 @ 9:08am
in case you have forgotten steve, the large lad seems to have glowing exaust/smoke
killakanz 12 May, 2019 @ 2:14pm
"And I am not. Even. Sorry."
1st rule of being a modder: Make what you want. :P
Martii 12 May, 2019 @ 4:04am
Large Lad! I love the name!
TaGG 11 May, 2019 @ 11:03pm
Sweet dude Iv'e asked a couple of times if there somebody could do a Garrett No need to now Thanks for doing this
Kronic_Rogue 11 May, 2019 @ 11:00pm
Euro Couplings would be great!
Maybe a German Or Kriegslok version as well
Chucky Dickens 11 May, 2019 @ 3:26pm
You Ain't Sorry, I ain't Mad!
What an absolute unit the Americans had.
You Ain't Sorry, I ain't Mad!
I'm in awe at the size of this Large Lad!
Dell Conagher 11 May, 2019 @ 12:15pm
LOLZ
power man 11 May, 2019 @ 8:39am
agreed corporal m4sharman,
you should be promoted to general for that suggestion
Ladela 11 May, 2019 @ 8:23am
Yeah, like Power Man says, the smoke is blindingly white.
MarkyT 11 May, 2019 @ 6:21am
Great idea, but needs European style buffers and couplings. How about a German style version in DB black with red wheels, rods and underframes, and huge Witte-type smoke deflectors!
Not_A_KGB_Agent 10 May, 2019 @ 6:48pm
ps: sorry for the past steve
power man 10 May, 2019 @ 8:59am
smoke seems to glow too bright on my game, is that a problem?
doesn't seem to do it to other mods, just this one
Steve Emfore  [author] 10 May, 2019 @ 7:16am
Yo I done issued an update. Thanks Autocoach for the heads up.
Wooteman 10 May, 2019 @ 7:14am
