UPDATE WHEN???
corsairmarks 26 Nov, 2021 @ 4:31pm
@Ape Gamer there's a chance your Launcher is aggressively holding onto the cached copy in its database.

You could try the nuclear option [stellaris.paradoxwikis.com].

Caveat: this will destroy all your playsets, so it is highly recommended that your export any your want to keep before purging. To export, go to the "Playsets" tab in the Launcher, click the "..." next to the playset name dropdown to get a popup. Choose the options to "Share" the playset - you will be prompted to choose whether the save (download) the file or just copy it to your clipboard.

i did that three different times, still missing descriptor file. any other suggestions?
corsairmarks 27 Oct, 2021 @ 6:10am
I helped Auren test out the update - I experienced the same thing as Darkstrider19. The mod is up-to-date, it's just Steam and the Launcher not fully agreeing about file downloads.

Unsubscribe from tis mod, close the Paradox Launcher and Steam, ensure this mod's folder (usually %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\281990\1840797321 on Windows 64-bit) is removed. Then open Steam, resubscribe and wait for the download to finish. Then open the Launcher, wait for it to detect your mods, then go to "All installed mods" in the left menu bar, and select the "Reload installed mods" button (upper right, looks like a circular arrow). In the dialog the opens, check the box for "Update from server" and choose "Reload."

After these steps, you should have a fresh, up-to-date copy of the mod. These troubleshooting steps also work on any Stellaris mod that is not updating or downloading correctly.

Before updating the mod be sure to unsubscribe from it first, completely clear it out from your launcher by removing the mod from both your All Installed Mods list and any Playsets it was in, and then resubscribe to the mod.

For some reason the update won't properly download as long as the old version is still in the launcher. However, completely removing the mod from the launcher and then resubscribing seems to fix this issue.

it appears we are missing a descriptor file. . . . . most tragic
corsairmarks 19 Oct, 2021 @ 8:02pm
Glad that helped! I replied on Discord - I'm happy to help you figure out anything else that's changed since back in 2.3
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 19 Oct, 2021 @ 12:05pm
Guess that's why I couldn't figure out the real problem. Removing local files fixed the empty download issue for me at least. I did send a Discord message since the original issue was that trying to update past 2.3.3 broke something, but I never figured out the cause, and I would like to since I want to get my mods back up to date.
corsairmarks 19 Oct, 2021 @ 8:28am
@Auren Dawnstar - you may have run into the infamous "you can't subscribe to your own mod" issue. If you have a local copy of a mod and the Steam workshop copy, the game totally ignores both of them (even though the launcher can see them).

Try (temporarily) moving or deleting the .mod file of you local copy if you are trying to test the uploaded Steam version.

You can ping me on Discord corsairmarks#7344 so we don't clog up your comments section.

Wasn't getting any errors that I know of. The mod just wasn't downloading any files after subscribing to it. Nothing I changed in the mod's path information seemed to help either so I don't really know what the issue was.

I would like to resolve it at some point though. Since I haven't updated any of my mods after running into this issue.
corsairmarks 18 Oct, 2021 @ 1:35pm
@Auren Dawnstar if you have any recollection of what errors happened in the past these cities, I'd be happy to help (over a year late I know).

Can you add pictures of the ecumenopolis version so we can preview them pls amazing mod by the way can finally play with a machine empire with his own cities
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 2 Jul, 2020 @ 6:00pm
Yes they have ecumenopoli versions.

Also, ignore the slew of "updates."

Was trying a number of different things to figure out what's wrong, but nothing worked. Finally said "screw it" and reverted it back to the 2.3.3 version so at least anyone running that game version can still use it for now.

Going to ask around and see if I can get any help with it, because I haven't a clue what to do at this point...
Aedrion 21 Jun, 2020 @ 1:58pm
Do they have ecumenopolis versions? :D
Trihne 6 May, 2020 @ 4:52pm
Same issue here.
pupgar1212 4 May, 2020 @ 11:32am
i am having the same issue which is a big bruh moment since two of these cities i like way to much
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 3 May, 2020 @ 11:26am
Yeah, sorry. I'm not really sure what's wrong since I can't replicate it on my end. :(
Journeyman Prime 3 May, 2020 @ 11:11am
Ugh. As nice as your cities are, I'd rather do without them then re-download my entire 100+ inventory of mods...
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 3 May, 2020 @ 10:54am
I wager the mod files are in the workshop content folder as well. Since it's showing up on the launcher.

Wonder if it's an issue with the launcher itself not loading the mod when the game starts. Was reading around to see if other mods have had this problem and it sounds like the new launcher runs into that issue sometimes.

Could try manually creating a mod folder for it in the mods directory through the launcher and copying the files to it. Not really a permanent solution, but if that works then it's likely the launcher did bug out.

Would suck if that's the case though. Since the solution seems to be to unsub from everything, completely clear the mods folder, delete the mods_registry and then redownload everything.
Journeyman Prime 3 May, 2020 @ 10:15am
Mod shows up in the launcher, cities just aren't there.
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 3 May, 2020 @ 10:13am
I can't seem to replicate it. Cities are still available to me both with my local copy of the mod and in the copy I downloaded by subscribing to it.

Though I'm hesitant to call it an incompatibility since it should be fully stand alone.

Are the cities just missing from in game or is the mod itself not showing up in the launcher?
Journeyman Prime 3 May, 2020 @ 9:00am
Wait, so can you replicate the bug or is it a mod incompatabillity on my end?
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 3 May, 2020 @ 6:02am
The cities disappearing after the update is really strange. Since all I did was add the descriptor file that the launcher creates for mods now. The rest of the files still matched up with how cities are set up in vanilla. So I didn't change anything in them at all.

I tried removing my local copy of the mod and downloaded it from the workshop as well. Mostly to see if something broke during the upload, and to make sure my local files weren't working in a way that the workshop files were not, but the cities still showed up in game for me even with the workshop download.

The only thing that immediately comes to mind is maybe the launcher auto-disabled the mod after the update, but otherwise I'll admit I'm at a bit of a loss as to what might be wrong. :(
Journeyman Prime 2 May, 2020 @ 8:06pm
Your recent update broke this mod. I was literally in the middle of playing when the game seized up and I had to reboot it. When I rebooted all of the cities had vanished.
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 2 May, 2020 @ 6:59pm
Updated the files via the new launcher's different way of doing things. Hoping I got everything where it needs to be for the mod to work properly.
Varsia 5 Apr, 2020 @ 7:13am
This mod is apparently completely broken. It, for some reason, installed itself a local mod which made it completely incompatible for multiplayer. Then, following a complete wipe of my workshop folder, again failed to work due to a missing Descriptor file.

For those curious to know if these citysets contain ecu variants: yes, they do.
Snowcraft 1 Dec, 2019 @ 4:08am
Hey, I'm currently working on a mod to add five new Fallen Empires to Stellaris (the missing four ethics and hive mind) and wanted to ask for permission to use your mod's cities as their graphical cultures.
Zepper202 29 Nov, 2019 @ 12:54pm
Do these cities have their own ecumenopolis skins as well?
Liorans Firefly 28 Nov, 2019 @ 11:02pm
Does it still work?
Sulafet 13 Nov, 2019 @ 5:21pm
Love the cities. Which there were more color choices but they still look neat
Darmug 5 Sep, 2019 @ 12:39pm
Is it compatible with the planetary diversity mod?
Grzyb 28 Aug, 2019 @ 2:29pm
I like the font
Cef 27 Aug, 2019 @ 10:59am
Do the cities change graphics for each level of planetary Devastation?
Кабачок 27 Aug, 2019 @ 10:03am
Отличный мод!
Рикошет3 27 Aug, 2019 @ 9:41am
Отличный мод. Шикарные города! Низкий поклон за проделанную работу!

@Lord Snorlax45
Should have all 5 stages of normal city progress as well as the 6th for ecumenopoli.

@BoomWolf
Honestly, I'm not even sure what the requirements for ironman compatibility are since I've had mods installed from the moment I bought the game.
BoomWolf 26 Aug, 2019 @ 5:26am
ironman compatible?
For some reason a lot of graphic-only mods are not :\
Highlord Snorlax45 25 Aug, 2019 @ 11:00am
does this also change when it's around 200 pops?
Auren Dawnstar  [author] 23 Aug, 2019 @ 11:04am
Yep, they were added to the cities in the main mod a few months back, and I just carried the whole set over here to be standalone.

A preview of the ecumenopoli can be found over here [www.deviantart.com].
Snowcraft 23 Aug, 2019 @ 5:17am
Does this include Ecumepoli?
