Thank you for this. That mechanic of there's is COMPLETE BS, and I straight up turned the DLC off for this reason alone. The rulers are powerful enough as is we really didn't need them getting a free turn everytime your squadmates so much as sneeze... in a turn-based game where positioning and planning is essential.

The mod definitely works, anyone who said this was a good mechanic is completely insane.

If you haven't played multiple thousands of hours and don't know every ruler spawn and patrol path you basically loose as soon as you encounter one because every time you move a unit it gets an action so unless you have "game sense" or use hacks to remove the fog of war you can't position your units to engage it and trying to bring them into range just results in their deaths because of the reaction spam.

Yeah, this doesn't work any more. Used to, and it was great. Have deleted and reloaded mod several times, tried different load order. Nada.

@Cinemasur

Agreed, the r/XCOM neckbeards always seems bootlick this feature whenever bought up in a discussion.

Great game, dog-shit feature.
Cinemasaur 28 Feb, 2024 @ 2:23am
thank you, this is the worst mechanic in the game imo.
DrFreeman 13 Mar, 2023 @ 11:25am
Seems like I figured it out. I noticed that several of my mods weren't working so I just unsubbed and the resubbed to all of them (Including this one) And now they all work.
DrFreeman 12 Mar, 2023 @ 8:09am
Yeah so I guess the mod just doesn't work at all for some reason. Oh well. Guess I'll live with that.
Juravis  [author] 11 Mar, 2023 @ 11:53pm
With this mod there is no such thing as a frozen ruler. Freezing a ruler will have no effect except to see the ice on him. He will act regularly on his turn at 3 Action Points.
DrFreeman 11 Mar, 2023 @ 11:48pm
Yeah exactly the problem. The green band pops up, the ruler does their thing and they definitely were frozen. (There was a frozen timer and they didn't move for 3 actions)
Juravis  [author] 11 Mar, 2023 @ 11:36pm
You can tell if the mod is working or not by the green band that pops and says RULER REACTION. It should be gone completely and the ruler should just have 3 AP every round.
Juravis  [author] 11 Mar, 2023 @ 11:35pm
Freezing will still work aesthetically. It will show as frozen but it won't have any effect. This is by design, you can't freeze them anymore since they're on regular turns or it would be too easy.
DrFreeman 11 Mar, 2023 @ 11:14pm
Weird. I'm not using Long War. The viper king had ruler reactions and could be frozen by freeze grenades. I am using a few mods but none that should affect the ruler enemies.
Juravis  [author] 11 Mar, 2023 @ 3:38pm
Unless youre in Long War 2 WOTC it should work
DrFreeman 11 Mar, 2023 @ 5:28am
Does this mod still work? Cause for me it isn't. I started a completely fresh campaign and got to the mission that introduces the viper king. He still has his ruler reaction after everything my soldiers do.
Der_Flower 26 Nov, 2021 @ 1:04pm
Okay, thanks!
Juravis  [author] 26 Nov, 2021 @ 12:08pm
Yes, but dont enable it during tactical.
Der_Flower 26 Nov, 2021 @ 11:26am
This mod safe for the mid-campaign?
(Giga Chad) John-Vick 27 Jun, 2021 @ 9:09pm
Okay, thanks! :)
Juravis  [author] 27 Jun, 2021 @ 9:05pm
I dont recall. Im not sure if the rulers are saved, they probably are to remember their HP. Yeah try a new one for the next
(Giga Chad) John-Vick 27 Jun, 2021 @ 8:53pm
With WOTC, I don't have any mods that affect enemies, only mods I have are ones that additional equipment slots and affect the hacking skill, and I have it toggled on in the launcher. Do you need to start a fresh campaign for the mod to work?
Juravis  [author] 27 Jun, 2021 @ 8:40pm
With WOTC? That's just a conflict then or they are not loading correctly dont forget to check them in the launcher
(Giga Chad) John-Vick 27 Jun, 2021 @ 1:49pm
Mod doesn't work for me...
Juravis  [author] 9 Apr, 2021 @ 11:20pm
It -should- work with base XCOM2 DLC, but it's not supported (if it doesnt work, im not going to fix in short).

You can use Moddable Ruler Turns for XCOM2, read the description up top for the link.
Chotato 9 Apr, 2021 @ 11:07pm
Does this work with standard XCOM 2 or just WOTC? If it works with XCOM 2, does it work with Long War 2 (Not LWOTC)?
Freakshow 18 Mar, 2021 @ 2:04pm
I thank god for this ....
revengeclaw 4 Mar, 2021 @ 11:03am
I love this mod.In an unmodded game, even though chosen in should be the "big bads" the rulers make chosen seem like regular units. this mod makes ruler fights so much better
kamykrak 25 Aug, 2020 @ 1:35pm
does any one know how whold this mod interect with Vahlen's Mild-Chosen Ruler Reaction would the chosen still have reactions or follow the same rules as the alien rulers ?
Juravis  [author] 15 Jun, 2020 @ 5:37pm
This is WOTC compatible. If you mean its not LWOTC compatible then its untested. If you mean its not for vanilla there's versions of it elsewhere
GFawes95 15 Jun, 2020 @ 1:02pm
Nothing in this description nor in the other mods does it say its for the base game.
Juravis  [author] 15 Jun, 2020 @ 12:47pm
I disagree. Everything is explicit and explained properly in text in both mods in suggested in detail. Unless you mean its not clear that they are not required. Thats why it says suggested.
GFawes95 15 Jun, 2020 @ 12:38pm
Just a recommendation, it isn't clear what the base XCOM 2 mod is in the description, nor in the other links. Might make things easier for users to clear that up.
Capifox 5 May, 2020 @ 8:24am
ty for the very fast answer ;) great mod that save the game for me, now i'm gonna see how to set it up to go smoothly with Long War 2 :D
Juravis  [author] 5 May, 2020 @ 7:40am
Cant have both. Sub to both then only enable the correct ones.
Capifox 5 May, 2020 @ 6:03am
So you say this one is for WOTC and the old mod (to unsuscribe) is for vanilla... so I have to install this one for WOTC OR the old one for vanilla but can't install both ? :(

PS: I started a game on WOTC and my girlfriend is trying the vanilla ^^', and we both want to play with your mod.
Vixxynn 24 Apr, 2020 @ 12:13am
Well at least now you have a chance to free them.
Juravis  [author] 22 Apr, 2020 @ 8:33am
Only if you let him. But yes somewhat. I suggest using a revival protocol mod that either removes the charges or increases them.
Vixxynn 22 Apr, 2020 @ 3:29am
Will the Viper King still be a pain in the ass though with their constant choking?
Juravis  [author] 18 Apr, 2020 @ 4:35pm
Yes, its mentioned in the description of this mod
John F. Kennedy 18 Apr, 2020 @ 11:52am
Is there a mod that disables ruler reactions for vanilla Xcom 2?
TotalKhonest 16 Mar, 2020 @ 11:27pm
I am using that mod, didn't prevent him from straight up killing my soldier. It's fine, just wanted to mention it as a first impression moment :D This mod is great, it fixed two of my problems with Rulers, especially the reaction gate escape. For the first time in many playthroughs I actually enjoyed fighting a ruler, so thank you :)
Juravis  [author] 16 Mar, 2020 @ 5:51pm
Use disable unconsciousness!
TotalKhonest 16 Mar, 2020 @ 3:37pm
Gotta say, this mod makes the rulers way more enjoyable to fight. The grab+choke into another choke (which killed my soldier) into a move combo by the Viper King is still nasty tho =D
Juravis  [author] 11 Mar, 2020 @ 10:05pm
Yes
TheProtofire 11 Mar, 2020 @ 9:35pm
I've installed this mod but I haven't done the Ruler story mission yet. Is it safe to remove this mod mid-campaign if the Rulers haven't shown up?
Juravis  [author] 5 Mar, 2020 @ 7:30pm
Confirmed, it just says "Frozen: 2" and has no effect. You are in the presence of a XCOM Vanilla bug. But in all honesty, if you use Disable Ruler Reactions all rulers should be immune to Freezing as it makes them too easy so I will not be tackling this bug. Use the Additional Rulers Perks mod, it makes them all immune to Freezing (i just double checked my code, its already in there)
Juravis  [author] 5 Mar, 2020 @ 7:16pm
I will try it right now in TQL to see with just this on.
Ganches 5 Mar, 2020 @ 7:10pm
Yes, except in this case where they are frozen for 0 actions.
Juravis  [author] 5 Mar, 2020 @ 5:07pm
I guess my wording is incorrect. Rulers are frozen for 2 actions not turns. Unless you install my additional ruler perks which makes the Viper King completely immune. Ill fix the text.
MrShadow 5 Mar, 2020 @ 3:23pm
Any enemy that is size 2 or higher as in (a large enemy) per the original code would only be frozen for 1 turn. Rulers (if they had the normal ruler reactions) would be 1 Action.
Juravis  [author] 23 Feb, 2020 @ 12:57pm
Ill try to recreate it and see
