However, the behaviour without this mod is now that both teh defense AND the dodge bonus are conditional on not being flanked.

So if you want, there's space for a mod that makes Hunker Down's dodge bonus apply even if flanked.

I can confirm that this is no longer needed, though I'm unsure as where the fix is - probably Highlander.

Using this results in the attacker getting +30 aim against flank hunkered units but not the -30 from hunker.

Somehow i think this is hardcoded by XCOM itself. It feels like an artificial nerf the devs put in.

The only other explanation i have is that the bonus would be given to the Warlock (so a penalty) which would make it fail constantly but he has high enough Will that it would succeed sometimes. I dont know how to troubleshoot or fix this, if it's even a thing.

100% no mindshield. It was early campaign so I included a rookie for him to mental attack and steal info and leave the battlefield. I sent the rookie up to him and the rest stayed back. The rookie was immune to his attacks for several rounds until I guess it could be the hunkering. It worked the moment he was not hunkered. It happened again in later encounters with other un-mindshielded but hunkered soldiers.

I may have caught a weird bug where hunkering down makes the soldiers to immune to the warlock's metal attacks, possibly any form of mental attack. I can't be sure, but yours is the only mod i have which makes changes to hunkering

Also in real life an object you can hide behind and provides you with protection against explosives or firearms thats COVER. Anything else that only hides vision is called CONCEALMENT. Hide behind a sheet of metal = concealment. Hide behind a block of concrete = cover.

Well said, Most people have never fired a gun, much less been in combat, and they think they are qualified to pontificate about what is "balanced".

I'm still wondering what magical force is used to stop the light from flashbangs, or the explosive force from grenades, in the many and varied nerfs to both.

Cant be done, too much contextual data. Hunker Down doesnt know if you're being fired on or meleed against or if insanity bypasses calc. Dont worry, its transparent just like the looting ability.

Thing the guy saying "But they're crouching" fails to realize is it doesn't make your center of mass any smaller... and that's where most folks are going to be aiming. Crouching behind something so they don't HAVE a clear shot at your center mass is why it's cover. Despite what movies show you, it's actually pretty goddamned hard to hit a head or limb, they move too much to ensure disabling/kill shots.

I knew I couldnt sleep after that last comment so i put up a quick fix. If the ability to hit is a Melee Calc, it will allow not flanking. It should fix the issue.

The only weird situation would be a faceless striking across cover, but I will allow it. It fixes more stuff than it breaks.

Thanks for this, the inability to hit someone crouching at the feet of a flanking soldier was pretty aggravating.

How would this (if at all) change melee attacks that flank a target on the last tile of movement?

Not sure this is a bug, more like a game design change... kinda makes sense you'd have less accuracy against a crouched target (same with half cover; whose soldier's are crouched).

I forgot to hide the ability in the Soldier UI Armory, it's now fixed. No damage done, just looked weird.

If you don't use my mod that makes everyone Hunker Down this is a straight up nerf to XCOM technically (but you were never supposed to get that bonus).

Yeah I’m X1 if you was in cover and hunkered, but got flanked... the flank would remove your cover and all additional defensive bonuses like hunker. So yeah I could see why ADVENT Avenger added it here. Now granted... unless playing with mods that give enemies Hunker, this mod is only making it harder for the player and easier for the enemy to do more damage. But the hard core guys should like this.

They did on some things, like it doesnt reduce sight anymore. But being able to pick any half cover in the middle of nowhere and get Defense and Dodge from anyone in any arc is not in the spirit of the ability in my opinion. You're looking for Head Down which was removed from the game (it was in EW/EU and gave 10 dodge i think? Even when not covered).

It's debatable whether this is a bug. When one is hunkering, they are making themselves a smaller target by hitting the deck and going prone or curling up into a ball. It seems that there would be some defensive bonus to such a maneuver. When a target is flanked, it loses the defensive bonus of the cover. Isn't that enough?
