and you have succeeded in my opinion. great work.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 23 Jun @ 12:20pm
I'm glad you're enjoying her :) The goal was to make a support that tempted players to make a <50% HP team for big "risk vs reward" payback
Wargulf 23 Jun @ 1:31am
also, Apocryphal text, incite and borrowed time, with CC knife trinket, insane combo for risky >50% hp runs. she manages danger better than most of my supports. she is only second to Fawn-Lamia duo.
Wargulf 23 Jun @ 1:28am
At first i wasn't a fan of the idea of adding a non-healing pure support class on my team. it usually feels like a "wasted turn" on higher level. but after testing her, i'm thoroughly enjoying what she adds to the table.
beyond the obvious "setting up darkwraith and flagellant to be gods on a torchless run", she is my favorite support to add to a slower tempo team.
Apostate with incite is the absolute best friend of slower characters that needs setup, or snowball characters. like the Thorn, the Anointed, the Fawn, the Duellist, any and every mark character, or the Matriarch.
The Apostate is very good. absolute queen of torchless runs, uncontested goddess of tempo. i love her.

I love this mod so much! Thank you for making it.
EmperorZephyr 3 Apr, 2024 @ 1:05pm
This class is always an auto add for me. I run the reworked darkwraith and giving that guy delore's head along with putting an apostate in his team means I have a character who (when decked out in every death door boost I can fit) becomes a walking god of death that can attack twice per turn and generate free blocks all the time.
melkor_morgoth75 16 Feb, 2024 @ 12:36pm
Currently it's not compatible with Pet Cemetery.

My plague doctor with 50 Dodge and 85% death blow resist died on first hit after reaching death's door. 10/10 would recommend.

@TheHolyChicken Sorry again for bothering. Actually I did one thing and possible it could be kind of a bug?
Ive instulled improved launcher for mods with + to memory and to trinkets. And it worked. But still problem with full white squares 5 and 6 skins for apostate left.
Any ideas?
Друманин Дрин 1 Feb, 2023 @ 11:02pm
@TheHolyChicken Second then probably xd. Cause Ive over 150 mods and everything barely work and on the edge of broken xd
Ok, thanks for answer.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 1 Feb, 2023 @ 2:38pm
Either your download is corrupt, or your game is very close to the mod limit where you might experience problems and crashes. You may want to consider uninstalling some mods.
Друманин Дрин 31 Jan, 2023 @ 3:27am
Hi again =)
Not sure what happened or how. But 5 and 6 skin of the hero is just broken full white sprites.
infinity_flair 27 Jan, 2023 @ 9:50am
I love everything about this character, with the exception of the corpse explosion skill despite loving the concept. If it weren't for the 7 skills mod I use, I'd probably never choose it because the rest of her skills are great and not as situational, and with most of the time I'm not leaving a corpse anyway. With that said I have that same critique for all skills that require a corpse; the Forsaken mod introduces a skill called Bloodboil which I think is probably the most practical way of going about implementing a skill like this; as a finisher, not as something to be used exclusively on corpses. But those are just my thoughts and thanks again for the amazing mod!
TheHolyChicken  [author] 10 Jan, 2023 @ 11:28pm
<3 Thank you for the positive comment!
Roselia 10 Jan, 2023 @ 10:25pm
The way you re-use assets from other parts of the game to make a completely separate character mod is very well done (I might take notes on this as i cant redraw the games style very well). Cant wait to use this character. Also great work with the ring master too!
TheHolyChicken  [author] 10 Jan, 2023 @ 12:26am
Well if it's not real work to do reskins and frankenstein assets, you'll surely have no problem to "just create a few recolors" and swap out the bone yourself, Joe. If you want to ask a favour from creators it's best not to begin by belittling their work.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 7 Jan, 2023 @ 5:22pm
Yea go for it, sounds interesting.
IronicallySell 7 Jan, 2023 @ 2:52pm
May I have permission to use your class mod in a significant amount of importance the class is in my fan DD lore story. I plan to have the Apostate class in general especially based on the comic that they along with rebel Flagellants and some custom religious classes form together an organization based on the Apostates' findings. I have an important character named Aurora who became an Apostate after one Apostate member saved her life and also managed to get out of danger. Which would inspire an older Aurora to become an Apostate.

If you have any questions, please let me know, I genuinely love this class on its functions and she is fun to play so far, though finding a suitable composition that isn't related to blight is tricky for me, I am trying. The art direction could be better, but not everyone can afford new artwork for mods especially if it is something made for fun.
Anti | Cow  [author] 12 Dec, 2022 @ 10:14pm
Ah, yes. Very nice too see your work called ugly and bad. Thanks for this useful feedback.
infinity_flair 14 Oct, 2022 @ 1:27pm
Having a lot of fun with this class. Couple of team suggestions to follow players:

* Apostate x3, Flagellant: Put a Quickdraw trinket(+8 spd +12 crit on first round) on your position 2 Apostate and have the other two cast Incite. Add any +dmg you can manage with quirks, etc and prepare to smile as you annihilate whole groups in the first round, though watch out for x2 size enemies.

* Succubus, Apostate, Keeper, Prefect: This might be even more broken - Prefect uses Power Play to Mark all enemies, Succubus uses her debuff that guarantees stun against Marked, Apostate hits Keeper with Insight, Keeper hits party with Cacophony twice for granted cents against stuns. Sooooo satisfying!
TheHolyChicken  [author] 29 Oct, 2021 @ 6:41am
Look at the 'trinkets' section in the mod description, it explains it all.
ArcaniteM 28 Oct, 2021 @ 10:10pm
How do you summon with her ? After you get the crimson corpse set, 1 of your abilities change ?
TheHolyChicken  [author] 10 Aug, 2021 @ 1:20pm
You should avoid using the trinkets that "Summon Walking Corpse" during boss fights. Otherwise no, she has no bugs or issues.
Tacty 10 Aug, 2021 @ 12:12pm
Does this mod have any bugs in the boss fights (bosses from the vanila/CC/Farm)?
GRIM 7 Aug, 2021 @ 9:30am
@TheHolyChicken Thanks for the awesome class mod.
I saw the overview done by E5 on YouTube and had to try it out.
When The Apostate along with rare trinkets are grouped with The Veiled,Ashen Warrior and Darkwraith,it allow these class mods to keep their low health or deaths door buffs for longer will little risk. The Ringmaster and Wanderer benefit from the Apostate's company as well.
Desecrate setup stuns for them Bloodborne class mods to visceral attack the hell out of and
traps that randomly strips heath are actually a blessing with the Apostate around so that phrase "Watch your step" can be taken lightly but hearing it is still annoying.
Went from stress healer in rank 4 to building teams around one combat skill.
How Red hook go top all these mods you guys put out with DD2 is beyond me.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 21 Jun, 2021 @ 8:21am
You may be interested to know that in early iterations the damage/debuffs she inflicted upon her party were far more potent, but feedback throughout beta was that it was too punishing and too scary. Can't please everyone lol.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 21 Jun, 2021 @ 8:20am
> "especially when the Apostate can heal herself."

...she can't heal lol.

That aside, this comes down to a question of the audience we're balancing for. Experienced players will understand that, as you said, burst and frontloading damage is extremely effective. Novice players don't understand this yet. They may even finish the game (on bloodmoon!) without really grasping this. A lot of players believe vestals are essential; better players understand that vestals are optional; expert players understand that healers are optional.

So a hero that damages her own team, debuffs her own team, and discourages healing is scary to a lot of players. Really scary. The payoff for the low health and the debuffs needs to be strong enough that players are tempted to actually give it a go and not just dismiss her out of hand. In the hands of an expert player she's probably above the curve, but most players aren't experts.
Uriel 21 Jun, 2021 @ 5:03am
Please don't take my comments as an attack on you or your mod @TheHolyChicken. In fact I love the design choices for the most part, I like the overall feel of the class and I'm not saying that it is inferior to other mods or anything like that but that's exactly why I'm trying to voice my opinion on how to make it even better.
If we disagree then so be it, you're the author after all.
Uriel 21 Jun, 2021 @ 5:02am
You're right about me not being very familiar with the Apostate seeing as I deactivated the mod after a single evening of playing because the character simple felt too strong and lacking a basic attack at the same time.
Just looking at the debuffs other kinds of modded characters give in return for an extra turn (Snake Charmer debuffs -healing, -stresshealing, -damage, -all skill effects) the Apostate's Incite seems to be far less punishing. After all, Darkest Dungeon is mostly about burst and frontloading damage as much as possible in my opinion so "glass cannon" type of characters and abilities will always prevail, and the Apostate enables them perfectly with Incite because the damage dealing enemies will be dead before the only actual debuff that matters, the +damage received, ever comes into play. I did miss the the healing-disabled-debuff but then again I'd never cast Incite on a healer in the first place, especially when the Apostate can heal herself.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 21 Jun, 2021 @ 2:09am
> "and even then as far as I know all the Apostate does is deal damage to the recipient in return for giving them another action."

Incite also prevents the target hero from casting healing skills, reduces their healing received, and increases their damage taken. I appreciate your enthusiasm for providing feedback, but it doesn't carry much weight when you are evidently unfamiliar with the character.

Balance-wise and design-wise I'm happy with her. The risk/reward playstyle is not to everyone's tastes but that's fine - lots of people love the shenanigans that she enables.
Uriel 17 Jun, 2021 @ 12:56pm
Love the aethetics and general vibe of the class but I have the same issue with her as PotaDOH.

I've read the mod authors answer about the Apostate being supposed to use "Incite" instead to give another character another action but I think that's a bit too strong to be a replacement for a normal attack. As far as I know the concept of giving another character an second action a turn is mod-only, there is no equivalent to that in the base game and I believe that this was a deliberate design choice because such an ability is very hard to balance. Other mod authors try to give both the caster and the recipient heavy debuffs in return (Snake Charmer for example) to make it slightly more balanced but I think the game's limitations prevent such a skill from every being properly balanced, and even then as far as I know all the Apostate does is deal damage to the recipient in return for giving them another action.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 8 Jun, 2021 @ 7:14am
She doesn't need "a direct attack for when their other abilities aren't worth using", she can Incite another hero to do the job for her. Incite doubles the output of the best damage dealer in your party; the strongest attack of all your heroes is hers to use at her whim.
PotaDOH 7 Jun, 2021 @ 9:58pm
My main gripe is that she doesn't have an proper attack, both tenebrosity and condemn have significant negative damage modifiers. It makes leveling her kind of annoying and I'm pretty sure all the vanilla heroes have at least one direct attack for when their other abilities aren't worth using.
Can you add a trinket for her that significantly boosts her damage in exchange for reducing her debuff and pull chance to make condemn into an ordinary attack?

As she is, it seems like her sole purpose is to make the Umibozu fight in Sunward Isles easier.
TheHolyChicken  [author] 25 May, 2021 @ 6:06am
What you suggested isn't possible.

The trinket limitation is unfortunate, but there's nothing that can be done without removing the summon altogether and I don't think that's any fun. It's simply impossible to do "on kill" summons in this game safely. If it helps, the only bossfights that I know to be probematic are the Flesh and the Baron (I wouldn't trust DD4 either), the others should be fine.
ngu chuyên nghiệp 25 May, 2021 @ 3:36am
very good class, the only problem i have is that "Try to avoid summoning the 'Walking Corpse' during bossfights" , so i can't use her full potential in bossfight , can u change this ? like instead of summon enemies corpses, how about "bring ONE (1 use/quest) companion died in current battle back to life", it would be in the extra ability of set trinkets, if it seems too OP maybe nerf some stats in the trinkets
.... man if only i'm smart enough to mod for myself
TheHolyChicken  [author] 18 May, 2021 @ 1:24am
Not a new trinket, no. However, if it helps, the "Apostate's Scrawls" trinket was originally her Sunward trinket -- something a bit wacky that would allow her to interact with dancing parties. In the end I decided it was too niche and so I changed the rarity and removed the class restriction.
ben.thomason1 17 May, 2021 @ 8:12pm
Any plans on adding a Sunward trinket?
Brave Dave 14 May, 2021 @ 2:55am
Awesome mod -- Can really make some OP parties centered around this class. Very fun!

TheHolyChicken  [author] 28 Feb, 2021 @ 9:26am
@LividRed: Last Rites has custom tooltips due to the game generating ugly/confusing ones by default in this case. Your change will work, but it won't show on the tooltip.
LividRed 28 Feb, 2021 @ 7:13am
Hey, I wanted to modify the stress heal values of Last Rites. But when I went into the effects folder and changed the .healstress value nothing changed. Any advice on this?
Anti | Cow  [author] 23 Feb, 2021 @ 2:29am
Hi, you can find DD mods following this path :
{your_steam_location}\steamapps\workshop\content\262060\
It'll open a folder with number named folders, it's the {Mod_ID}. You can find mod ID by pushing "SHARE" button and copy the number at the very end of the link. So for Apostate it's : 1917819568
