I would also advocate for a Lite version that tones down the promotions significantly. No movement penalty and camouflage on their own are more than enough to justify making recon units and also makes them useful as a sort of pre-spy, turning them into busted powerhouses capable of single handedly turning the tide of battle is a bit much.

The 'Natural Survivor' promotion is insanely OP with this healing. Any other unit type doesn't have this sort of promotion, so it's way overboard.

Love this mod series. I have a suggestion for another recon-based mod. I'd be happy to commission it if you like. We can hash this out over DM, but this is basically what I'd do:

- Scout: as-is is fine
- Okihtcitaw: as-is
- Skirmisher: +15 melee
- Warak'aq: +25 melee
- Ranger: +20 melee
- Highlander: +20 melee
- Spec Ops: +10 melee

And Promotions:
- Ambush: -10 (at +10 total)

Extra credit:
- all recon class can use battering ram and siege tower

Basically, all recon get a melee strength that is 5 above their ranged strength, and they are then able to take cities.

Additionally, i think this is because the Scout's upgrade comes far too late. By the time you get your first Recon Upgrade, you are getting your 2nd Ranged Upgrade.

Personally, I would love to see Skirmishers come at Engineering. (As the kind of short-ranged Composite Bow Recon that they are.) Obviously the Warak'aq (Inca) too, which is where your other mod Earlier Tunnels has Engineers/Tunnels being unlocked. (Good synergy there.) Sadly, Rangers need to stay where they are as there isn't really anything else at the tech (outside of Modded stuff.)

One little suggestion: I would suggest changing out Saboteur. I feel like that is more of a job for the Heavy Cav or even Light Cav. (like Pillaging is for them.)

Instead, if possible, I would do a "May Upgrade when in Neutral Territory" (Norway with ships,) as this 3rd Promotion. (Because that is something I always want to do, but on the other side of the world makes that hard, as it is less likely you have friends over there or CS you have had time to get on side.)

@fka-gargamel: If you read the comment below yours, I think you'll find that you won't get an answer to your question. Did you experience such a conflict? I like that mod as well and am hoping there is no conflict. I would assume there isn't one (they each do non-intersecting things) but ya never know...until you go through the excruciating process of finding out. Fingers crossed.....

On a separate note, would it be possible to add the recon class to the Stables and/or Barracks building's +25% exp bonus? Perhaps as a separate mod to minimize conflicts with other mods that modify the Encampment district?

+Even if that ability comes for free (idk how the code works there), they'd at least have to be Level 4, which is still a decent challenge.

This mod looks amazing - and I fully intend to add it - but what I'm wondering is, would it be possible to replace the Saboteur promotion with one called 'Alpine Corps' allowing scouts to enter Mountain tiles, but this movement ends their turn and they take 10 damage if they start their turn on a mountain tile? Perhaps if they also have the Secret Service promotion, they can take their whole formation with them - I don't think this would be too broken, because at a minimum, it would require a recon unit with at level 6, which is quite a feat unless you're just plain cheating.

I know they already get a lot of cs from their other promotions but I think saboteur can be replace with something a little bit less situational. like maybe give back their hit and run ability?

Another clarification regarding my unit expansion mods: this mod isn't compatible with Warfare Expanded but it is compatible with Steel & Thunder. Really enjoying this, besides making recon more useful in general, it makes the Cree a lot more fun to play. Thanks!

I think I see the problem. I had Warfare Expanded enabled which I thought just added units but it actually restructures things including promotion trees

That's strange, the mod should modify the promotion tree for all because it is tied to a unit class (recon) and not a specific unit. You may need to start a new game and make sure the mod is enabled.

No worry :tokitori: As far as I know, support units don't actually have their own CS, but if you do escort a battering ram with Scout with that promotion, Scout will gain 10CS while attacking (plus the benefit of the ram) since the game consider that a formation (this promotion works similarly to naval class' promotion).

Unfortunately it does not stack, i.e a formation of 3 (Scout + GG + Ram) doesn't give Scout 20CS, only 10. Have fun and God bless!

Game on. Hope I didn't sound like a jerk. Quick question, did you make it to where the power of siege units (such as the ram) gain benefit from the scout with this promotion as well? Because I could DEFINITELY see that as a viable and useful thing. Anyhoo... Game on and God bless!!!

Sorry I should have phrased that better. If you form formation with a unit (so in case of Scout/Ranger etc) it's with a Great General and/or Builder, the Scout receives +10 CS. So it's great to escort your civilian units (Builder/Colonizer) or perform supportive role (Great General). While escorting, the Scout has better survivability, especially when defending since it stacks with Natural Survivor. Also helpful when you have the next Tier 4 promotion, your Recon would be in the middle of battle to provide buff for adjacent units.

What's the point of giving a builder or settler a +10 Combat Strength, they can't use it. The scout can't link up with ANY combat unit... so what's the point of Secret Service. I loved the idea, until I realized its a meaningless ability.

I got it resolved actually. Yes, it was enabled. But I had created a preset of options for starting a new game and didn't realize it would use my old mod setup instead of the new mods. Sorry for the false alarm. =)

Did you check in the Mods menu and see if it's enabled? This mod doesn't change the unit icon/text though, only the functions. So you should try and see if your Scout is losing a MS (to 2) and is having new promotion tree.
