Keen has announced a vanilla small grid door to come next update! Now we can finally build propper airtight small ships!

well done dude :)

@Cannon0176 All you should have to do is place a temporary block on the side of the end of the piston, which will then let you place the merge block. After placing the merge block, you should be able to remove that temporary block.

I tried to follow your tutorial in survival but I was unable to offset the first merge block as you did in the video. Am I missing something or is that only possible in creative?

This is the second version ive seen. First has been out awhile and uses size 1 wheels. Will have to check this 1 out

I've been meaning to get a tutorial up but recording issues got in the way. Soon

You got a no clang piston door with only one piston??? How the actual did you do that? Even sacrificing a blocks distance because of the extra size of the piston head making a 3 block door size I have never been able to do that and I've tried basically every offset possible. I gave up and started doubling my piston arrangements to perfectly offset the size of the piston head. Only way I could get it to work without clang.

On a side note, why-oh-why cannot we have a working airtight door for small grids?? (OK, I feel better now.)

Thanks. I did figure out that I needed to install each component sequentially or else the timer block wouldn't see everything. I don't know why. I've never had any problems with timer blocks seeing components, even components on sub-grids, when building a complex door, but then again I've always worked with large-grid builds whenever I've done this kind of thing. Maybe it's a bug with small-grid builds. I don't know. But I'd sure appreciate understanding why the door no longer opens when I replace either or both of those two blast door blocks. That baffles me. A lot.

I will record a video explaining the whole process. It's very simple as long as you follow a few basic rules to avoid explosions.

I really like this design for its simplicity. However, I've spent hours trying to exactly replicate what you've done because I also want a door that's a mirror image of what you've built. Try as I might, I can't get my mirrored version to work. Only when I remove the two blast door blocks above and below the fixed (door frame) merge block will the piston pull the door open. Similarly, I found that if I delete and replace the two blast door edges above the yellow (fixed) merge block in your design (not changing anything else, just taking them out then putting them back), the door no longer opens. I actually have to delete them again for it to open again, and no matter what I try it doesn't work anymore. What am I doing wrong?
