Yes, it does change the hands if you install it into your custom folder.

Yes, i changed the gameinfo.txt file accordingly,

You have to not only put the file you want in the custom folder, but change the gameinfo.txt file to allow custom content if it's the first time you're doing this, It's easy to do.
