There are ways to make it easier, have a look at TyDale's video about it:

Having some trouble dropping a large grid on it

Thanks Flankspeed!

Great design. Thank you! Very useful and handles well.

Edit: Figured it out, just turning off the wheel strength

So... how am I supposed to get it connected to a connector? a floor of half-plates are too low, and full plates are too high.

Do I just hold the X key till the connectors meet?

Ok, well I did do some reorganizing of the interior a while back, so I'll go back and check the piping, thanks

This one also has an issue with the cockpit not being piped up for air. Messing with the conveyor coming from the front of the Hydrogen engine was enough to fix it.

Spite! You've gone and done it again! This is brilliant! :D Been loving the utility ship redesigns lately, now I have to get one of these made. Thanks a bunch for the awesome creations. :D

Yes, it does detect ores, the reason it is showing as Orange is because it is on a connected grid.

There are a couple of things is could be:

Do you have the detector On?

Do you have enough power, and is your vehicle powered on?

Is the Detector at Maximum range?

Do you have signals switched off (as in can you see broadcasts from antenna), if you're not sure, try pressing H a few times.

If you can see the ore signals when sitting in the rover, but not when you jump out, add an antenna and make sure its on and broadcasting.

That's all I can think of, let me know if you figure it out!

Can you confirm the Ore Detector still works through the sub-grid? I have a similar design rover and the Ore Detector just shows as Orange and doesn't detect ores at all.

Interesting, that is a problem I have not had when building it, the only way I could make any of the wheels not want to place is if the suspension height offset was at maximum height or if the vehicle was on the ground.

So have you tried lowering the wheel suspension height all the way down? spawning the wheels works fine for me with the settings on this blueprint, but in the past it has been the case with other rovers that lowering height offset helps.

And is the vehicle high enough off the ground to allow enough space for the wheels to spawn?

Otherwise I cannot get the wheels to not spawn. So if you have already done both of those and still can't make it work then I'm sorry but I can't help you.

POS. Can't place wheels on it. Tired of grinding spots to try to place them.

good idea, simple and effective, I like it!

I also chose the current rotor orientation in part for the aesthetics, but also for better handling since the original design had the rotor attachment on the back of the cabin, but looked very strange with the gap between the flatbed and the detector.

However, in general I prefer not to use sub-grids, (or at least use as few as possible) so I would personally not use it for anything other than finding ore spots, and use something else for cargo hauling. However it shouldn't be hard to customize, so go for it if that's your thing.

Thanks, as for the wheel offset setting being on the toolbar, I just use the suspension strength setting instead, since it is already there and has the same effect when docking.

The Hydrogen Engine and generator set up is so that you can refuel when far from base if you come across some ice, or to refill personal tanks. If anything I would replace one of them with a battery rather than some tanks.

Yes it is a very specialized vehicle, but then again, it is easy to print and easy to recycle in a grinder pit. The only adjustment I would consider is to perhaps add a connector under the rotor (that's why it is already an advanced rotor) so that cargo containers can be placed where the detector was.

Looks good and drives well on my lunar testing area.

I think the controls could be improved by adding increase/decrease/reset wheel offset controls to the toolbars. Wheel offset 0 is just about right to dock the truck on a blast door parking space.

Have youi considered using small hydrogen tanks to replace one of the O2H2 generators and/or the battery? I'm thinking of the large Frostbite trucks here.

I also think that the vehicle is rather specialised due to its having a horizontal rotor. Having a vertical rotor, especially if it is plumbed and the vehicle also has a top rotor, would allow, for example, two large small grid containers or similarly sized large and small grid containers and tanks to be mounted and accessed through the rotor. This would also turn the truck into a mining hauler for one of your tunnel miners.

Keep it up!

Thanks Splitsie! Although credit for that goes to Taidyr, he gave me the idea for the garage

That's awesome - especially love the set you built to take the screenshots in, really nice touch to offset the style of the build :)
