I had an event where a Kwama nest burrowed into one of my upper spare rooms and created a perfect area to farm the eggs. I even decorated the room and started leaving kibble out for them to eat regardless of the fungal mash already being produced.
Sadly a "trojan infestation" happened and numerous insectoids overpowered the Kwama there. I tried to save them, but they all ended up dying and eventually the nest deteriorated into nothing...
I hope I'll get another event spawning a nest on the map, but it was fun to find out how the Kwama worked like that!
If it's the latter, then there is likely a nest you haven't uncovered that is starving. It could also be caused by predators hunting kwama from a nest.
If it's the former, then there may be a mod interfering, or my mod bugged out. You could try using devmode to change faction relations to neutral.
