I feel like it might have something to do with that tiny shelf in the ballast tank because it gets packed with full sized boxes all clipping into eachother. I noticed that I could put boxes into it without anything bad happening so maybe its just loading in with them there that does it? I'm honestly not sure.
But enough about that. I've got a question. How do I turn on the back-up battery power? We ran out of fuel and it was a critical moment because I was dodging and weaving swarms of mudraptors, crawlers, and spinelings as well as going inside caves to get to the objective, but once we ran out of power and I turned the option to use the batteries, it just didn't work and we got bit to death (this was with the Phase 1). Any reason for that? Was that on purpose?
Once more official content has been released I plan on refreshing the current designs as well as expanding into more designs. I also hope that someone more skilled than myself can take these concepts and achieve things that I haven't been able to due to lack of scripting and programming skills
Overall it went fairly smoothly except for the one time where the bottom half of the sub got filled with crawlers. Luckily my friend had bought a harpoon gun and I had the starting revolver from being a captain. Tip for anyone running this sub, make sure you put a diving suit in the top locker as they are a bit difficult to put on as you are being crushed to death.
"bug":the engineer-bot (who should manage the reactor) can t take fuel rods out of the locker.
Download all the stages of the sub and then make sure they are all enabled at the lobby screen. Then you need to purchase the upgrades from the submarine vendors you can find on most stations, and then of course select the Stage you want to use at the sub selection terminal. Also, read the info I provided on how to easily move all your items from one sub to the other. Have fun
Hey man!
Thanks so much for your kind words and your trip report after using these subs. Really happy to hear folks are getting the full experience that I was hoping for. I agree that after playing this sub, pretty much any other vanilla sub feels like overkill - starting off with cabinets full of equipment, and a full compliment of weaponry. This sub really teaches you to appreciate the thrill of manually piloting to burn groups of chasing enemies with the thrusters of your engine. Or being forced to park the sub while you and a buddy suit up and head outside to beat some crawlers to death with a crowbar, because they're banging on your hood and you have a cargo hold full of scrap from a wreck that you need to get back to base and sell so you can afford a few more bullets for your pistol and another fuel rod.
I made these subs after only having the game for a very short time, and so consider myself very much a novice when it comes to wiring and things like that. But I hope this can serve as a proof of concept to other sub builders who want to make a similar series! Thanks again for your feedback
Ran this sub as single player and I had a really tough time making it to stage 2 without dying in hilariously ridiculous scenario's, purely because I tried playing it like like other subs.
Hull breaches, frenzied shooting on board, sinking to the sea floor, power outages, blind collisions with cavern walls at full speed, all drenched in feelings reminiscent of a space hobo.
This thing is exactly as described, a hull breach with an engine. Cotton wool is tougher than this shitbucket, but I think it was (without any doubt whatsoever) the most perfect sub I have played yet for a campaign beginning. Each and every rusted, hole ridden piece of shi..steel is precisely designed and lovingly placed, to draw out that early game 'struggle' and I thoroughly look forward to making it through each and every iteration of this series.
The techniques it taught me for creature evasion are now hardwired for every other sub I use. Being forced to make a few runs without any mounted weaponry whatsoever really put me outside the comfort zone, (especially in single player). Evasion through speed and careful piloting are your friend... actually, they are your ONLY friend...
The trick I found; was to make sure I spent that initial cash on some solid 'foundation' equipment without splashing it all. The ship comes pretty threadbare, and I really needed to compensate for this.
Don't expect a run will go smoothly, Diving in this is as safe as standing close to a first time juggler, who is drunk, throwing an assortment of 5 (lit) molotov cocktails... and chainsaws... especially if you (like me) had a habit of pumping that sonar ping out in all directions like its an 'everybody give me more candy' button.
I imagine multiplayer this rig would run a little smoother, and I strongly emphasise the words 'a little' rather than the word 'smoother'. Leaving the sub for any period of time is as suspenseful as winding up a jack in the box, and leaving it in the hands of NPC's really add's to that 'what the hell am I doing' feeling, you know, the one where that chemical rushes through your head making you feel like somebody just grabbed the marionette sticks out of your hand as you hopelessly watch everything get soaked as your world turns sideways.
That being said, I managed to make a couple of 'quick' dives in wrecks as I passed by, grabbing a bunch of gear to sell at the next stop whilst also finding some weapons/ammo/fuel. I think doing this is almost imperative as far as getting cash quickly for the next stage of sub (even though in doing so I chewed through a heap of resources at one site, 'managing' a bunch of husks, who's corpses were in turn 'managed' by a bunch of creepers).
No doubt I'll now find it hard to use any other sub as a beginner, as they will all feel a bit too 'safe' and 'cheaty'.
This thing makes the Dugong seem like an endgame ship, and I guarantee you will be longingly dreaming of it's well lit corridors, tough exterior and ample weaponry numerous times as your world is echoing with the clang of unseen horrors latching on to the rusty holes outside, forcing your hull to screech and groan in protest as it gives away.
Thanks for the work you have put into this series of Sub's, I am really looking forward to making my way through them all, it's work such as this that makes a game something really special, and I hope the dev's are watching this space !
Honestly, as a group this kind of "incrementally improving the actual structure of the sub" is exactly what we want out of the game, and it's something we've also been hoping the devs support down the line, so I definitely hope you get your wish.
Only issue we ran into is some weirdnesses with water flow around the top hatch, at one point some water pooled in mid-air up there. Not sure if that's intentional?
Overall, great sub, worked really well with a crew of 4-5. We were laughing at how paper thin the walls are on the v1, and by the time we got to the v2 we were so used to fleeing that we barely remembered we had a gun. Thanks for making it & releasing it!
I haven't seen anyone else utilizing this concept in a similar way, and I'm hoping this can get more people working on similar projects, or get the Devs to make using this type of progression style easier (for example: automatically loading all your previous sub's inventory into crates and putting them into the next sub's cargo hold). Thanks for playing

.... you can't afford it. Or start with it. Maybe there's another criteria I'm missing.
... but it's 6,500 credits bro.
The dugong is the cheapest SOB at 1000! XD
This should be, like, 250.
