"Press parry and shield"???
Nspecial was definitely a difficult move to balance. I want it to be powerful enough to really sell the impact of that fireball, but obviously not so powerful that it overshadows the rest of her moves. Your feedback will help me fine-tune it.
I absolutely get what you are saying about Dstrong not being good. Will make all-around improvements. I personally think it should be stronger rather than weaker.
When I have some time I will work on these changes, so expect an update in the near future! Now that Definitive Edition is here with abyss mode for custom characters, I'm also considering making abyss runes for all of my characters, but that will come later.
Hello @frog ! First of all, I'm really happy that you enjoy my character. I normally prefer playing more aggressive characters but I wanted to do something different with this one, so I'm glad that people who enjoy zoners more than I do like this. Thank you for your comments, feedback like this really helps workshop creators. Of course since I don't really play zoners, it's hard to know how to make one well so this constructive criticism is really helpful for me.
I'll see what I can do regarding jab, I'll try to make links into dash attack more consistent however I also don't want to take away its use as a combo tool into Fair.
Utilt not hitting average sized foes on the ground is something of an intentional weakness since I primarily wanted it to be an anti-air tool, however I'll experiment with adding a drag-up hitbox for enemies practically touching you.
Dstrong has way too much end lag: it doesn't combo, it kills late, and you get punished even when you hit it. It should be able to set up for juggles at high-mid percents as a reward for tech chases. That being said, I do think it should kill a tiny bit later given how easy it is to combo/string into (ie nair).
It would be interesting if hitting an opponent with dair would cause you to bounce off of them. Further, it would set up a tech chase situation in which you can possibly follow up with aerial Nspecial (fireball) if they either tech in place or don't dodge at all.

At 0% dtilt > jab > DA is a fun string, however jab just barely doesn't combo into DA, which is frustrating. If you could, please adjust the angle and maybe make it a frame or so faster.
Utilt should be able to scoop opponents that are extremely close unless they are low to the ground or can pancake. Check out Zetterburn's hurtbox.

Bless yer content.
Don’t forget about her fifth elemental spell, which is used by pressing the Special and Parry button at the same time (S and C with default controls). Note that there has to be ground in front of Patchy for this to work. So, no, you can’t use this as an edge guarding tool. Even if you use it very close to the ledge, it’ll only summon one rock which still hits the ground. Better tools are her aerial NSpecial standing at edge ledge, DSmash at mid ledge and a fully charged USmash for upwards edge guarding if you have time.
Ending ~ Mukyu
While that’s all for my guide, there’s a bunch of things that I haven’t even mentioned here. So, if you’re interested, please download Patchouli and check her out! It was a lot of fun testing all of this, so if anyone else discovers some cool techs from her, don’t hesitate to comment! (I swear, these get longer every time lol)
For more consistent but weaker results, hold the arrow key in your desired direction and mash the Special button. The holding strategy is useful in timed matches while you’re in the lead or in doubles when waiting for your partner to respawn. Think Fox’s Shine Stall from Brawl, but less airtime. The mashing’s better if you want to take an offensive approach, unless going against Reimu with her projectile-blocking barrier.
FSpecial can be used to stall yourself in the air. Just mashing will get you at least 6 seconds, but this can be maximized to 18 seconds. To do so, first use your FSpecial at the midway point of your double jump so you catch it’s upwards momentum. You should see Patchy moving up while the blue triangles spawn on one side. If misinputed, she’ll either keep falling or shoot a fireball. Now keep holding down the FSpecial button until 5 triangles appear for ~2 seconds. Release them and a bit after, and use FSpecial again. If you feel you’re veering to close to the ledge, you can always change directions, but watch out as this’ll leave you vulnerable. You honestly have to really feel the timing in order to get it right, since sometimes you fall faster and other times you fall slower.
For stages like Patchouli’s homestage which has blastzones closer to the width than height, SideStrong is the most effective option (killing at 80% near ledge uncharged versus 120% for the other two uncharged). For opposite stages which have a low ceiling, DownStrong into UpStrong or UpStrong by itself are better.
Since Patchy is much faster on the ground than the air, you should rarely be moving side to side in the air, mostly up or down. For faster downwards movement, don’t use Rivals normal Fast Fall mechanic where you mash the down key while in the air and get a twinkle next to the character. Instead, use her Air Dodge down, making her invulnerable with a lighter white hue, which is faster. Watch out, because if you do this too close to a platform (say the floating books on her homestage), you’ll grapple to that instead and perform a wavedash. This only happens if you perform a fullhop close to one, so shorthops are fine.
Patchouli’s a very complex character with a lot of advanced mechanics, so I’ve made a guide showing off a few of her techs. First, let’s start with the basics.
Wavedashing ~ Fast Movement
Patchouli’s dash is slow, so use her wavedash for faster movement. I’d recommend binding a specific key to shorthop. My personal set up is Shift as Shorthop (custom) S as Dodge (default) and a directional key, where I press Shift first and S a bit after. Don’t mash this because you’ll go slower, just let it slide for a bit before using it again.
Dash Dancing ~ Mind Games
Since Patchouli’s idle stance is very similar in both directions, her dash dance could be effective at hiding which direction you’re moving from your opponent. This can be done by mashing both the left and right arrow keys at the same time. The more you mash, the more effective this is. But make sure you don’t do it too much in one direction.
