Hey Eps, if you ever read this - you could add an Apostle promotion, which adds Great General-like combat bonuses to surrounding Monks.

I love this. Makes monks just a bit more viable, and more easily comparable to Nihangs, the OTHER faith-bought melee unit.

Just checked - works on my end. Keep in mind that the strength bonus is only applied in battle, so you need to hover over an enemy unit to see it.

Ya know, the changes I suggested for Kotoku-in in your Epstweaks For Wonders mod would work great here. I'd still say give them 2 promotions (or, okay, fine, 1 if you insist :) with the wonder (if not at birth, always!) as way to give them longevity and customizationalness. These guys need help to survive, plus flourish as the exceptional badasses mythology imagines them. Ya know where I'm coming from?

I'm sure a lot of people would love to play with Warrior Monks at some point, or maybe even often, but most just skip over them scornfully because as presently configured they are lame, PLUS require a coveted Belief slot. It is our moral and divine duty to help them, bro! Help them...to help you!

so after further investigation:
the AI mentioned definitly had Kotoku-in, but after I decimated their lands only one city on an island remaind, which had an warrior monk still? maybe the monk was on the water exploring, but still...

I have a different mod that adds Templar Knights when you unlock Divine Right - Epstweak for Civic Units. They can be purchased with Faith by anyone.

can u make them avaible for all? I did it myself, but maybe someone else want them for everyone.
I just opened the vanilla units.xml and changed enabled by religion to false and needed tech to astrology. Would buff religios civs, i think i will maybe nerf the start dmg, but give them a 3rd upgrade before reformed church? Can i just copy and paste one of ur upgrade and replace the civ with another?

Unfortunately, no. A unit's "Type" is based on its promotion class, and the promotion class decides which promotion tree a unit gets. So having Warrior Monks count as Melee would require getting rid of their unique promotions.

@Chris - They are not a Melee unit as far as they are coded. They should get the GG bonus, but it's not coded properly so no. They can't make use of Siege Support units - don't have the proper TypeTag. No to A/S, yes to Fionn, no to Comm. & Fasc., but yes to Oligarchy.

Is there something else "wrong" with the "vanilla" Warrior Monks? My impression is that they are a melee unit, but lack the abilities from Melee class. Do they get buffs from Medieval era Great General(s)? Or can they make use of Battering Ram, Siege tower, Engineers? Or do they get Anti Spear, Spear of Fionn, Communism defense buff, and Fascism attack buff unit abilities?
