I would look up how to build a map for tf2/hl2 first before trying to edit something else so you can get familiar with how hammer works

Thank you so much for uploading the source! That actually makes mappers able to edit and enhance some maps! Mainly Xen...

Somebody actually needs to make a cut version of the xen maps, because they are way too long...

The first chapter of xen was actually ok, but I hated the xen tree section, where you had to crouch through mines, which made 0 sence. And at the end, where you had to teleport to the next chapter also felt like a chore.

The gonarch chapter also dragged on for too long because of the section where I had to fill the entire area with water. The gonarch chase should be shortened as well, but I don't know where I would cut it to be honest, so it's up to the mapper.

Interloper...ugh...please make less plug puzzles, less conveyerbelts...and please don't make the final elevator stop midway-just cut the chapter in half...but the beginning is really awesome!

Sorry for my rant...but I usually stop playing when I get to xen...It really showed me that sometimes, less is more...

Interloper c4a3d (the long elevator where controllers throw barrels at you) looks and plays perfectly find when I run it from the "bms/maps" folder, but breaks its cubemaps whenever I try to pack it as a .vpk and place it in the custom folder, causing many textures to appear bright and oversaturated. This error message appears a few hundred times with varying numbers before the map finishes loading:

Couldn't get HDR 'maps/bm_c4a3dTEST/c-8768_-11360_2048.hdr' --
Trying non HDR 'maps/bm_c4a3dTEST/c-8768_-11360_2048'
Failed, using default cubemap 'engine/defaultcubemap'

but unfortunately, I'm pretty inexperienced with hammer so I have no clue how to troubleshoot this; I made sure expert mode was configured properly for a final compile and used the exact parameters for "Xen Indoor Maps." If fixing this is going to take another day, I'd just prefer a script that can connect my map between "c4a3c2" and "c4a3d1" respectively.

I can't compile any of them! How exactly should it be? Neither;(bms,gmod,sfm; mapsrc's) failed to compile with any. bms writes missing "blabla.bsp" , others crash without 100%. And .. and even if I put the .bsp file from the original to the specified locations, it writes incomplete. :steamfacepalm:

Surface tension c2a5a seems to have some unfinished shadows or something even when recompiling from the unedited vmf this workshop provided.

its the original.vmf files from the black mesa developers allows map makers an easier time of changing maps for whatever you might want. for example converting a SP map to death match or adding new areas to explore in the campaign.

@mrzombie depends on the map the 2012 mod versions maps work fine with SFM just lacks some newer maps like STU/Xen you'd have to some peculiar things relating to retails models to get them to load right. they did something since the 2015 release with models that broke map decompilers if i recall right.

I mentioned it on Discord, but just to make sure, mentioning it here too - There's a missing instance for at least bm_c4a3c2. It looks for c1_conveyor_props.vmf, which doesn't exist. Given the name, it wouldn't surprise me if c4a3c1 uses this instance as well, but I haven't tried compiling it so I don't know for sure.
