Hey @Higgs, thank you for making this mod. It was a great idea to lean into eating bugs, it's a really funny idea for a playthrough with a colony that relies on eating bugs. I also enjoyed that thumbnail with the bug nutritional facts. I hope you do well in the next project you work on in life!

texPath seems to be okay, but textures themselves are located only in 1.2 patch folder.

Updated for 1.3. Limited testing, but features appear to work without error. The hotel/condo were NOT tested because Universal Fermenter isn't updated.

@TurtleShroom thanks for the shout, I'm running that Improved Insects mod myself now, insect primacy was the ideology incorporation I wanted... now just to wait for this mod to get an update and I can have finally have pretty-looking bug meals again hahaha

There is an Improved Insects Mod that changes the way the Vanilla Faction Insects Expanded Mod handles its bugs (including making it possible to tame them).

It adds an Insect Primacy Meme that does EXACTLY what you are looking to implement.

Hope to see a 1.3 update of this mod, hopefully a full Ideology incorporation too... the art used for the insect meals in this mod is top tier (I'm currently using Mlie's Cannibal and Insect Meals mod to get the mechanical effect, but as great as Mlie is at maintaining old mods and the mechanics of making them work well, their version isn't nearly as aesthetically cool / well-fit into RimWorld as this mod does insect meals... Mlie's version is just a regular meal with a little ant on it xD haha)

@Zestir That's because these meals have totally different defs. They're not just meals that happen to have insect meat as an ingredient, they're a completely different kind of meal. Just like if you have Vanilla Cooking Expanded, your pawns won't be satisfied with how much coffee they've made just because they have 1100 cups of tea.

Weirdly the insect meals don't count towards the meal counts for cooking.
So when my colonist is working on getting 40/40 fine meals ready, it doesn't matter if there's 78 fine insect meals, they'll still keep working forever if there aren't 40 regular fine meals.

Would be nice if we could filter what kind of food to be fed to the condos. My drones keep wanting to feed it the highly valuable fruits instead of the surplus veggies.

the recipes with vanilla cooking seem to be incomplete, the only thing tagged as an ingredient is insect meat, which is a problem when it comes to things that call for more than just meat.

If you choose the option to make the insect recipe appear instead of automatically made the recipe isn't available for the electric stove one. I have been bug eating tribal for so long that I just realized now.

While the original deep fried version is just a pemmican deep fried. Just like the original but with my own texture. Not worth putting details on it.

@nimmygreen - Did you have the option to have it separate? By default I believe is if you have insect meat in the dish it'll automatically turn into the insect bake image.

@YepThatsMyName Before I answer, let me state I am open to balance feedback and that you can also change it in the xml.

That said, the Hotel is 80% efficient and will make enough meat for 1 fine meal every 3 days. The Condo is 100% efficient and will make enough for 1 fine every every 1.2 days. My working theory was that vanilla treats meat as more valuable than veggies and realistically, some of the nutrition would be lost in the form of castings and bugs that wander off before you can farm them. Gameplay is more important than theory though, so if it needs bumped up, let me know.

Bear Grylls has taught be that eating maggots is a good source of PROTEINS.

Might I also ask If the Bug Condo/Hotel is efficient or does it just change plant matter into insect food. Like does it change 50 plant matter into like 75 insect meat or 50 insect meat?

hell yah, insects are a really cool source of food, you can dry and make powder and add into stuff like bread and so on if you dont like the idea of seeing a bug in your plate.
or you can do like they do in Asia and just eat them.
a nice protein option.

That's not a bad idea, but I think spawning pawns and implementing ai would add performance overhead that is better reserved for more ambitious mods, like Morrowrim. Not to mention it sounds like a lot of work.

I think instead of turning plants into insect meat, it may be neater to implement an insect farm where you can "plant" a hive that spawns normal but unaggressive insects, similar to the kwama from the morrowrim mod. that way they can be farmed without too much danger, although the insects should still have their ai of mining walls randomly, meaning the farm still needs maintained and the bugs fed, without the hassle of them all being tamed and going around your base
