The new, brighter version of this mod can be found here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2461661195

Ok, that's good to know. Thanks!
BuddyBoyChum 16 Apr, 2021 @ 4:34pm
Just wanted to ask a quick question, this mod should work with any mod that changes your FOV or view angle, right? I know that this mod only changes the textures of weapons, and I don't think that any FOV mod should alter the weapon textures in any way. Just wanted to make sure is all.
Sir. Barnaby | trade.tf 10 Apr, 2021 @ 2:25pm
in my opinion, sounds great! cheers!
Coaster  [author] 10 Apr, 2021 @ 1:49pm
Cool, I figured that would be the case. I'm thinking that I'll release the lighter version as a WIP. I'll probably do a quick fix to the colors to brighten everything up, and then I can just do updates as I find time to improve the lighting.
Sir. Barnaby | trade.tf 10 Apr, 2021 @ 11:41am
tried it out, and definitely looks a lot better than it used to before. while it is in my opinion still a tad too dark, it is at a point where i would keep the addon subscribed for now.

in verticality for example, the weapons tend to still have a resemblance to black holes pretty much everywhere in the map, but i guess this will be improved in the lighter version ))
Coaster  [author] 9 Apr, 2021 @ 3:46pm
@Sir. Barnaby
Check out the update--it addresses the "black hole" issue. The weapons may still be too dark for your taste, but I'm already doing testing on a lighter version of the mod that actually looks promising!
Sir. Barnaby | trade.tf 6 Apr, 2021 @ 11:47am
Cheers!
Coaster  [author] 6 Apr, 2021 @ 11:00am
Yeah, I can see how some of the blacks would look crushed, especially on some of the darker maps. I remember noticing it on Revolt when I was doing testing, but boosting the colors didn’t help a whole lot.

I’ll definitely start working on a lighter version of the mod. I have some ideas on how to boost brightness a little without affecting the look of the mod too much.
Sir. Barnaby | trade.tf 6 Apr, 2021 @ 12:20am
Even though that is true, i still feel like that some sort of a trade-off is necessary in such an extreme case. They could still be darker than INS2 default's, but lighter than the ones right here.
Will definitely be subscribing to anything else GGX-esque from you though, especially if it's a lighter version.
Coaster  [author] 5 Apr, 2021 @ 10:41pm
The problem is that everything is a tradeoff. Lighter textures=worse color; more light dispersion=less texture depth; more reflection=excessive shine. This game is 7+ years old, we can only do so much with it.

Still, I might play around and see what I can do. Stay tuned...

@Coaster
Noone calls an AR a little gray rifle, but noone calls it a black hole either.
I think a separate version which would be a tad brighter than this one here would be amazing. Because it is just unreal how much these things absorb light.
For the record, the current version looks great, but it looks great so rarely. Nine times out of ten it is just RGB 0, 0, 0.

Option #2
1. Navigate to: ...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\222880\620049740
2. Copy "trueholodot.vpk" and paste it to:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\insurgency2\insurgency\custom
3. Rename the file to "_trueholodot.vpk" (just add a "_" at the beginning--this should give it priority over my mod).
4. Start the game and see if it works.
5a. If it worked, do a dance or eat some cake or something.
5b. If it didn't work, navigate to: ...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\222880\2431226948
6. Copy "shader mod (ggx-ish + rimlight) v.2.vpk" and paste it to the same folder from Step 2.
7. Unsubscribe from GGX-ish Shader Mod.

Good luck!
Coaster  [author] 5 Apr, 2021 @ 11:36am
@mazejk Ok, I've been testing the issue some more, and I've found two solutions that work for me after I encounter the issue that you're having:

Option #1
1. Reboot your computer.
2. Unsubscribe from the optic mod, then resubscribe (make sure it finishes downloading again before you move on).
3. Start the game and see if it works (it probably won't).
4. Close the game, then perform Step 2 again.
5. This should work, but if not--repeat Steps 2-4 until it works or until you want to smash something out of frustration.
Coaster  [author] 5 Apr, 2021 @ 10:59am
Making the textures darker was the only way to make black weapons look black. No one calls an AR a "little grey rifle"...lol.

However, if there was enough interest I could make a version of the mod using the default color/brightness settings. The weapons would be lighter, but they'll look like plastic airsoft toys again (just without the Vaseline).
Sir. Barnaby | trade.tf 4 Apr, 2021 @ 9:57am
these look nice, but only in certain conditions.
in the other 80% they look way too dark
AFFETMEM 2 Apr, 2021 @ 6:36am
Thanks a lot man
Coaster  [author] 1 Apr, 2021 @ 9:57pm
Alright, I’ll take a look at it again this weekend if I get a chance. Only thing I can think of is that the optic mod has a .vtf file that my mod doesn’t, so it has to override the .vmt from my mod AND the .vtf from the original game...maybe that messes something up.

Anyway, if you want you might try what I suggested last time, except with my mod instead of the optic mod. At this point anything’s worth a shot.
AFFETMEM 1 Apr, 2021 @ 1:07am
welp didnt work at all
AFFETMEM 31 Mar, 2021 @ 10:52pm
Okay thanks
Coaster  [author] 31 Mar, 2021 @ 2:00pm
@mazejk Ok, we're going to figure this out. Let's try this:

Navigate to the following folder:

...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\222880\620049740

Copy trueholodot.vpk and paste it here:

...\Steam\steamapps\common\insurgency2\insurgency\custom

If this works you should be able to unsubscribe to the optic mod, but if you want to stop using it in-game you'll need to move it out of the insurgency\custom folder.

If this doesn't work, I'll try making you a custom version of my mod that hopefully won't interfere with the optic mod.
AFFETMEM 31 Mar, 2021 @ 6:25am
@Coaster nothing has changed unfortunatly
AFFETMEM 30 Mar, 2021 @ 1:03am
Ok i will try that
BuddyBoyChum 29 Mar, 2021 @ 10:51pm
Awesome mod, I love the way all the textures look. Keep up the good work!
Coaster  [author] 29 Mar, 2021 @ 2:54pm
@mazejk Ok, I ran some tests and was able to duplicate the issue. It's just a matter of file priority, so unsubscribe to that optic mod, then resubscribe. That will make it override my mod's files. If you get into the game and it still doesn't work, exit out and restart the game. For some reason Insurgency doesn't always load all your mods the first time it boots. Hope this helps!
Shadow_RUN 28 Mar, 2021 @ 12:57am
Everything looks a bit too clean and new imo, not sure if that's intended or not...
I appreciate the amount of time and effort you put in it though, good job :ianthumb:
Coaster  [author] 27 Mar, 2021 @ 2:09pm
@tZveig Thanks! Sure, go ahead. Just keep in mind that every texture is a little different, so you might need some slight tweaks to each .vmt.
Coaster  [author] 27 Mar, 2021 @ 2:07pm
@mazejk Can you send me a link to the mod so I can test the issue? My mod doesn't contain any models, so I'm not sure how it's interfering.
Michaela 27 Mar, 2021 @ 7:47am
Ya think I'd be asking a modder if I knew how to mod myself? xD
Marshall 27 Mar, 2021 @ 6:52am
@Coaster This is amazing! The formula for the perfect weapon texture. Can I use the parameters of .vmt files in ports for other games on the source engine?
AFFETMEM 27 Mar, 2021 @ 2:34am
@Coaster i will try that, but the reason i asked that is i have a optic mod doesnt have a model (lol) and when i use that optic there is a default model of the optic.
Paulo Minozzo 26 Mar, 2021 @ 2:53pm
good
Coaster  [author] 26 Mar, 2021 @ 2:07pm
@Michaela, let me know if Avianite's suggestion doesn't work. Unfortunately, textures don't always look the same even if they have the same .vmt values. If it still doesn't look right, let me know. I'd be happy to oblige as long as the original author doesn't have a problem with it.
Coaster  [author] 26 Mar, 2021 @ 1:58pm
@mazejk, I assume you're asking because another mod isn't working...have you tried subscribing to the other mod *after* subscribing to mine (to give it priority)? Mine shouldn't interfere unless the other mod uses the game's original .vmt files.
Avianite 26 Mar, 2021 @ 7:02am
@Michaela Just copy paste the parameters from the carryhandle vmt's for both the m4 and the m16 in this mod into the vmt's for those custom rear sights.
Karpp 25 Mar, 2021 @ 12:30pm
based
AFFETMEM 25 Mar, 2021 @ 11:19am
can you make a version without accessories ?
Coaster  [author] 23 Mar, 2021 @ 3:16pm
Jasper,

Thanks for your comments! Sorry if it seemed like I was ragging on your mod, that was not my intention. I was dabbling in GGX a while back, and it frustrated the hell out of me because it looks SO good sometimes, and then so NOT good at other times. I ended up not renewing Photoshop, so I moved on to my mod here that only required me to edit .vmt files for the most part.

I definitely have tried your mod at various stages (I think before the bronze fix and then the most recent release). For me the weapons look too washed out, but it could just be my monitor because 1,069 people seem to disagree with me!

I was probably overly harsh on GGX shaders, but I just feel that they're extremely temperamental. I was never even fully satisfied with my own GGX mods (hence I never published). That said, I am definitely looking forward to trying the next version of your mod, even if I still like mine better at the moment ; )
Avianite 23 Mar, 2021 @ 7:21am
This reminds me of that cod shaders mod.
Michaela 23 Mar, 2021 @ 3:59am
Love it! Great job
