Its a simple process of using NinjaRipper and available blender import scripts for 2.79 which allows vertex weights to still be present, they just have to be retargeted to appropriate armature's bone names, and get materials sorted out for Source's VertexLitGeneric shader.
I would like to touch up my workflow sometime in the future but I have been finding myself doing it more for Unity (VRChat duh) as its less mundane to make it unlike with Source, so my preference comes with more efficient, less time-consuming workflow.

Gmod is a ground experiment for me because I'd rather improve and update my earlier releases that are dating back to 2015 where my manual weight painting is quite amateur.

I'm curious as to how in the world you got these models ripped to begin with. I have been trying for days now trying to decrypt/convert the texture files output by the quickBMS script for Evolution Engine games.

I've begun ripping from warframe as of yesterday, since I found out how.
so hopefully you can put out some kubrow stuff or armor sets or something.

The reason why I was stalling and drained from warframe porting is because the material system in source isn't nice, and everyone would rather find it much more fun if you could customize your Warframe... So I am teamed up with a coder from another project I am working on to make an extensive playermodel selector specifically for Warframes coming out on this account.

Well, since quarantine is here and I am not doing anything for the next 4 months due to unemployment, I may as well get to work and see what I can come up for a solution to those two tasks: guides and ports.

you could always continue to post the rips on other sites in just simple formats, not ported.
I'm sure people can port them by themselves, but it's up to you really.
you're probably the only person who can still rip from WF, aside from maybe 1 or 2 other people who don't share any scripts/files.

I don't find time to work on Source as much as on different Engines i'd been given opportunities to work with, therefore Source has been put in the back of the shelf that is only used for a rare occasion. Quarantine happened, I don't promise anything since everyone has much more free time, and I just don't know if I want to push myself to Gmod ports again.

Sooo...if I understand correctly (not trying to be rude, but the sentences are a mess)-
Working with Source is a pain in the ass. So you don't work on these anymore.
Granted, for me even Unity's too complicated, but it doesn't surprise me that much.

There is/was no lawsuit involved, instead there was support and encouragement to continue from Digital Extremes.
I simply have no interest to continue as of last few years, and I have only been touching up Warframe content in Unity and Unreal Engine 4, but Source because how pain in the ass it is to work with anymore for me.

in short; DE probably threatened him with a lawsuit or something and he's chickening out.
really shows how much DE cares about their community.
it's not like ripping assets gives anyone unfair advantage in-game.
