I learned this when doing the Bennelong point decals. The sandy concrete slabs all over the Opera House building have a great specular effect that makes them kind of glitter in the light on close inspection, but the effect was impossible to recreate with the decals.

It won't work the way you are probably hoping (sparkly grains, or just a general sheen). Specular map on the decal shader does not reflect light (i.e. the sun), only draws the skybox. Only useful for puddles.

would it be possible to add a specular map to the decal?

Thanks. There are 6 pictures and I can see all of 'em currently.
Sounds like a steam problem, not a Robert problem :)

Now my cims can have near-death experiences when it rains for the first time in a while and these get very slippery!

The other one is already its own collection.. I'd rather just include links to self-contained collections than try to maintain a big omnibus.. pretty sure there is a collection item limit.

I know and follow civil, I set up the submesh template for their first few ad swatches of my citaro bus, and very glad to see how much original stuff they've made since.
I'll sort it out. I'm not an active collection curator. 😋

Those are all fair points! I definitely recommend at least checking out the asset creator civil, he has a few real sydney vehicles like this bus

And KriZ's collection of real australian commercial planes

(in the case of the metro, the 6 car set is the real one - I added the metro 6-car set to my collections and excluded the train versions and the 4-car set. Whereas the trains all come in consists of 4 or 8 as far as I know)

tram stations are like bus stations, they're an alternate segment embedded in a network.

fire danger signs usually appear outside the metropolitan area, but I'll find time to add some of those to the Sydney collection. I should broaden Sydney Transport to be a TfNSW collection, also.

I exclude sets which are not real but have been produced to be easier to use in-game, i.e. 6 car sets. I've applied this with my own 6 car trains, too.

Also some suggestions for your Some Things In Sydney collection
-Fire danger rating signs - luigi4518
-Telstra Phone Booth Pack - hemeac
-Sydney Transport Pole Signs / Ticket gates (2 mods) - meshd
-Hemeac, The Federation, Feare and Yerbert have all made australian road sign packs. A couple of them cover the same signs but do it differently
-civil has made a few more sydney vehicles. Tfnsw buses with ads on them, metrobus and murrays, plus some more auspost stuff like a semi truck.
-KriZ has a bunch of Australian planes. Qantas, virgin aus, jetstar
-2014 toyota camry nsw police by ninjanoobslayer
-bmw nsw highway patrol by ma7heus
-when I had a look at meshd, jenperTC, zekiarsu, and maybe cooleo I noticed that only some of their sydney vehicles were included in your collection. Ie they may have released a train with 4, 6, and 8 car variations but you only include 4 and 6

Omg I've wanted this for so long! Thank you!

Ah yeah fair enough if its not your bag! I was just thinking about the stations mainly, something like how the vanilla monorail stops work by being built on just a little bit of road and then people can connect other roads to the ends. That would still be difficult and probably require custom networks for the lines over roads like you say, the more I think about it. Polygon's Central Tram Station goes alright for now as a track with platforms on the outer edges :D

Thanks for your hard work Robert I'm always grateful to you and the handful of other modders putting out NSW assets

I've consulted with tram-genius clus about custom networks a while back - as I see it George St alone needs 3-4 more or less single-use custom networks, and the fourth one isn't possible at this time :P

we're talking:
- tracks with plaza and raised platforms on either side
- tracks with plaza either side and island platform (circular quay, also has a siding :\)
- tracks with single lane road on either side and island platform (china town)
- bridge st is asymmetric, it becomes a one-way street for a bit when it splits to accommodate an island platform.. (this may be doable now with node controller if we just treat the road as separate. might need the same situation with Haymarket, and what's left of Devonshire st at the Surry Hills stop)

it's a headache to think about, so I don't! Maybe someday. I'm not a network guy, I'm a buildings and sometimes vehicles guy. Circular Quay has given me some experience, but not that much.

These would look great around some tram lines like how Town Hall is these days. You should tackle some sydney style tram stations eventually. I'm thinking both like the CBD ones with benches in the middle and tracks on either side and then the ones like Dulwich Grove station which are just two almost ground level platforms with a track crossing and some nice shelters on either side
Zekiarsu 2 Oct, 2021 @ 6:06am
Great stuff, time to fill my CBD with these!
