What is the special research called? I use EPOE

I just realized I was talking to you in the wrong mod comments
Kayesh  [author] 6 Dec, 2022 @ 11:35am
(Note that the fix will be in the core Corpse children mod)
Kayesh  [author] 6 Dec, 2022 @ 11:31am
Turns out it was less of a goof than I thought: Rimworld's HediffSet.GetInjuredParts() doesn't work the same as it did in 1.3 in that it can return injured parts from other pawns. So that's interesting. Good news is I just need to write my own version of the function to fix this issue. There's a couple of other issues I want to look at, but there'll be a fix today.
Kayesh  [author] 6 Dec, 2022 @ 10:17am
@Nox: Thanks for the report! This one is a goof by me when updating for some changes in 1.4. Aware of the issue, hoping to finally spend some time either today or tomorrow to fix 'er up.
prince.mandor 6 Dec, 2022 @ 7:17am
@Nox is it on clean game, or there is Xenobionic Patcher also installed ?
Nox 4 Dec, 2022 @ 7:13pm
bug report : body part replacement picker is showing wrong needed parts for pawns while using this mod and corpse children - can provide save file or more info.

pawn needs right ear, targetmenu shows "steal right ear to replace left ear" - left ear does not need replaced.

@Kayesh, Flesh sac seemed more appropriate than syringes hahaha! I'm eager to see what you can do with all the features provided in biotech, there's a lots of potential, with the deathless gene, it almost turns my corpse children into the Creeper from jeepers creepers
Kayesh  [author] 14 Nov, 2022 @ 4:09pm
@Ezoteryco: Yeah, definitely. I was checking out how genes are defined when updating to 1.4 since I do want to bring this in as a new direct theft/integration action. Seemed very doable.
(Also: "store it in a flesh sac" was a hilarious term to see pop up in my notifications)
Roque the Rogue 13 Nov, 2022 @ 7:56pm
Hey Kayesh, any chance for a biotech integration where corpse children can use the genetic system to steal genes and store it in a flesh sac or integrate it in their body directly from corpses? Thanks for all your hard work mate.
Kayesh  [author] 23 Aug, 2022 @ 8:07pm
I've pushed a new update: a leg is a leg. When upgrading a body part, if the donor pawn has duplicates then the Corpse Child can steal either. This means a Corpse Child can steal a left lung to upgrade a right lung. Likewise, Corpse Children can now steal from races with different body frames, just so long as they're sentient.
Kayesh  [author] 19 Aug, 2022 @ 10:22am
@PremierVader: I may be slightly late in replying, but exactly what Get Donked On said. The first tier of upgrades (efficiency 1.1 but ugly) requires the Prosthetics research. The second tier requires the Bionics research. The third tier requires a new research item that itself depends on Bionics and Advanced Fabrication. That being said, these are patchable and so a separate extension mod could be made that adjusts the required research or even just removes it.

I definitely can see themes that would use this mod but with lower tech; Frankenstein would be more Victorian, whereas ghouls or flesh golems would be medieval or below.

I don't play with medieval colonies, so outsourcing this question: for a medieval patch, what would be ideal research requirements? Existing research projects (and if so which ones), or a new research tree (and if so would there be additional research requirements for the three levels)?
Kayesh  [author] 19 Aug, 2022 @ 9:32am
(It's a bug in Rimworld itself, not in any of the mods. Didn't want to bring the fix into this mod since it's general goodness for any jaw replacement mod or even just for the vanilla dentures)
Kayesh  [author] 19 Aug, 2022 @ 9:30am
Hey all, heads up that I've just uploaded a new mod that will fix the jaw/tongue disfigurement bug in any mod that adds jaw replacements. Name is "Bionic Jaws Are Not Disfigurements", and it can be found here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2851137444
Get Donked On 25 Jun, 2022 @ 5:24am
if you are restricting research probably make sure you get the bionics research in the starting scenariootherwise you can only get the enhancements that make your guys ugly
PremierVader 25 Jun, 2022 @ 3:35am
Hello can I actually use this mod in a medieval colony?
Kayesh  [author] 24 Jun, 2022 @ 1:32pm
@Get Donked On: hope you enjoy it!
Get Donked On 23 Jun, 2022 @ 10:52am
god damn i just downloaded corpse children cuz it looked neat but now its getting sub mods, very cool thanks man.
Roque the Rogue 26 Jan, 2022 @ 9:09pm
Sure! Cenobytes can also be seen as demons, but I suppose Corpse-Children being mutants also fit the bill quite well! I applaud your commitment to make compatches with many well known mods, I would love to see how deep you can go into mad science, thank you for your time.
Kayesh  [author] 26 Jan, 2022 @ 9:01pm
Ha, very nice! And I hadn't come across Beauty is Only Rim Deep, but really nice that it gives a visual element.
Roque the Rogue 26 Jan, 2022 @ 8:37pm
Have you watched Hellraisers? or heard of the Cenobytes? Corpse-children do also remind me of them, in fact, I do use corpse children to bring forth new cenobytes, previous to corpse-children I was using ideology memes to violently convert new cenobytes, since corpse children starts with the staggering ugly trait it mixed really well with Beauty is Only Rim Deep mod with changes pawns faced based on their beauty, it made a perfect match!
Kayesh  [author] 26 Jan, 2022 @ 6:37pm
@Ezoteryco: I like where you're coming from with the demonic/monstrous facets. The original intent was someone doing biological experimentation that they probably shouldn't have been doing created the corpse children, and then they spread. Frankenstein-y, but self-replicating. Corpse children innately had the ability to create more of their kind and repair/improve themselves using the corpses of others through X means, but having intelligence allowed them to use learned knowledge to improve upon these abilities. So science gone wrong, hence the technological aspect.

But there are other RP ways of interpreting the corpse children and their origins. Demonic is a good one. I like your thoughts on possible extensions.

I do feel the upgrades needs to be gated behind some manner of tech to avoid madness out of the gate.
Roque the Rogue 26 Jan, 2022 @ 2:57pm
There's plenty of Potential Kayesh, if you're hungry... for new abilities the Kure's Rimworld of Magic Class Expansion added The Ravenous and The Chempunk all with abilities I think are plausible for Corpse Children and is what I have been using playing as them.
Roque the Rogue 26 Jan, 2022 @ 2:57pm
A tie to advanced technology unlocking new forms of "shape" meat and use their powers to create new corpse children, I would like to see this developed further, maybe in some sort fo a lab where the corpse children could perhaps preserve limbs because it tends to decay faster on them? or do they consume the DNA of whoever they steal? a bunch of questions, I don't think this should tie to any sort of technology, it is its own thing, sorta demonic/mutant mad science technology? amazing possibilites, aside from the EvolvedOrgans Redux compatibility I would enjoy quite a lot if Corpse Children could learn new abilities, spit acid, fly, fleshcraft animals into some sort of grotesque abomination they can use as hounds or as livestock, create "gore" art kinda like super mutants from Fallout 3 and fallout 4
Roque the Rogue 26 Jan, 2022 @ 2:57pm
Technology depends on what the Corpse Children actually are, they remind me of the demon from jeepers creepers and his insatiable hunger for new bodyparts and meat
Kayesh  [author] 26 Jan, 2022 @ 1:19pm
There's been a couple of differing opinions about tech prereqs in the comments. I'm interested in hearing people's thoughts on the research piece: if you would like to see it be different, why? I like the bionics tie in for reasons given in a previous comment, but that's just my thoughts. If there are thoughts about why it would be cool if the mod did X instead, it'd be great to hear them. Cool things are cool.

If you want this to be divorced from advanced technology in order to fit into a low tech game (I've never played with tech limited to medieval but I hear it's a thing), that makes a lot of sense. Might be overpowered in a low tech game, but raiders should have thought about that before they raided.

While I don't think I'd change this mod specifically, the tech levels and research prereqs are just in XML and so I wouldn't mind spinning off a follow-on patch mod.
Roque the Rogue 9 Jan, 2022 @ 3:49pm
@Kayesh oh my God, you are amazing!! I'm looking foward to testing it now :D
El Grasón 9 Jan, 2022 @ 2:23pm
Maybe add a research tree called "flesh shaping" or something like that, and being more cheap to research compared to bionics and totally detached from any "technology"
CrackaJack 6 Jan, 2022 @ 6:21pm
hmm, imo its kind of weird to have to research bionics to upgrade the natural parts, especially when theyrre "naturally adept" at grafting bodyparts onto themselves (btw did you think of igors?)
it´d make sense to have the option sooner, to make it more special then "free bionics" i suggest using the smithing and electricity research projects instead
Kayesh  [author] 29 Dec, 2021 @ 12:30pm
@Vrk_L: a third step has been added that can bring the body part up to 150%, requiring a new tech.

I like your thought about the ritual, but I'm avoiding that for a couple of reasons.

The lore part is that corpse children are ghoulish isolationist folk who have an instinctive understanding of how to graft body parts on to themselves. I like the corpse children being exposed to new ideas about body replacements and adapting, and I see the ritual being too social an activity.

The non-lore part is I don't want to tie this to require Ideology.
Kayesh  [author] 29 Dec, 2021 @ 12:20pm
@Ezoteryco: This should now support the Fleshcrafter meme from Vanilla Memes. If that mod is installed, the enhancements added by this mod will be treated as natural body parts. Note that removing a corpse child's enhanced body parts will get you fleshcrafted body parts; these enhancements are unique to each corpse child, crafted from instinct, and can not be removed and attached to others.
El Grasón 22 Dec, 2021 @ 2:03pm
@Kayesg : Aww, I thought it was able to go up to something like 150%, being equivalent to an archotech. Maybe it's too unbalanced but whenever you find an archotech being a corpse child won't have much sense. I think there should be more like a ritual and had to research that ritual instead of having to research prosthetics and bionic replacements
Kayesh  [author] 21 Dec, 2021 @ 8:34pm
@Ezoteryco: thanks man, appreciate it!
Kayesh  [author] 21 Dec, 2021 @ 8:33pm
@Vrk_L: two steps, with the second being equivalent to bionic.
El Grasón 21 Dec, 2021 @ 6:36pm
How far can the body parts be enhanced?
Roque the Rogue 21 Dec, 2021 @ 9:24am
@Kayesh, eh, bro, wait until you see the Psychic Vampirism from Alpha Memes, you'll lose your mind hahahaha

Join the Vanilla Team discord, talk with Sarg, lots of people can give you pointers on the rimworld discord as well, love your mods mate
Kayesh  [author] 21 Dec, 2021 @ 8:45am
Wow, just took a look at that mod ( Vanilla Ideology Expanded - Memes and Structures ); that's an impressive mod! And I saw the Flesh Crafting meme which is a ridiculously amazing fit for this mod and Corpse Children as a whole.

I think it makes absolute sense to have an update to this mod and to the Corpse Children mod to make them work with the Flesh Crafting meme; that would be an amazing integration. That being said, I actually haven't investigated how to integrate with memes and precepts as yet and I'd need to dig into how that mod does things like thoughts etc. So I guess definitely a chance, but I'd need to spend tinkering time, which is a no-promises kind of thing!
Roque the Rogue 21 Dec, 2021 @ 3:51am
Any chance for a patch for Vanilla Memes with Fleshcrafter meme?
Karkino 18 Dec, 2021 @ 4:20pm
i really like this idea!! (sorry for saying it twice but this could be the gimmick perfect for a custom race)
