gosh that thing looks like it came straight out of pokemon and animal jam

this model's really good, i really like how, when driving, the head turns and stays within a certain angel so that it looks as if it's still looking forward or in the direction it's turning, rather then looking left or right while going forward then snapping 180 in the other direction.

other notable things i liked was the weapon models, they seemed to float in the air and have some slight delay to their movements when following the player, that along with those long ears splaying out when crouching, it reminded me a little of Silver the Hedgehog from Sonic 06.

if you're still around and up for making more player models, i'd love to see what you come up with.

HA i love the nickname

Yeah I see the similarities, but also the distinctions. They're definitely less deer/insect like, and more wolf/centaur like with the fluff and upright posture. Also very interesting that we both associated them with dimensional travel and lost things though. The nickname "Sargasso Chimera" is based on a trope called "The Super Sargasso Sea" I think you'd find it interesting. <^w^>

this inspired to make my own species but perhaps i took a little too much inspiration. i had this whole trans-dimensional teleportation idea but not like yours, then you told me about your species and now im like "jeez i might have to completely overhaul mine"

The default variant of octobax are ungendered as they share information telepathically and their offspring are quite literally conceived like a thought, and start their life in their extra-dimensional state. When octobax stop wandering and settle down in one place, they may develop a fondness for the local sights and lifeforms, and may conceive of a new chimera variant of the species which shares physical characteristics with these outside influences. The octobax don't have any formal society and only rarely encounter each other naturally, but they can leave a telepathic message in places of interest for each other, or can send out a mental invitation to get together as they can travel long distances practically effortlessly. Okay. They're sort of elusive wanderers and observers, and they usually are alone or in pairs rather than in a group. They're a kind of extra-dimensional and just show up wherever they want, snoop around, and then vanish again. When they communicate they use telepathy to convey their intentions and to understand what others intend to convey, so language barriers are no issue. Mostly though they use their telepathy to make others apathetic towards their presence, so that they can observe up close without interrupting whatever it is they find interesting. Their telepathy is made possible by them having a sort of extra-dimensional nervous system that never exists in 3D-space, sort of like an invisible "brain hand" that can reach out and touch your brain, or anything electrical for that matter.

what is their lore

The Avali definitely inspired me to include multiple ears and the rest followed naturally. The earliest doodles of them look nothing like how they ended up though. I made the first version of this model in 2020 and that one did have a punching animation but it looked really weird when sitting, crouching, running etc. because the limbs for punching were used for movement too. This model I started tinkering with in August last year, but I barely worked on it until December because of school.

I love the details in the animations! Also the fists are missing a unique animation, unless its using some sort of telechenatic punch lol

I dunno exactly? I'm a little protective of it but I don't want to discourage people from being creative. The idea of there being offshoots or variants of their species actually fits really well into the existing lore/biology/behaviour with them being chimeric and the base species being nomadic. I think I should make an effort to post everything about them somewhere soon even if not a lot of people care and it's open to change. Either way, thanks again to everyone here. <-w->

@DirtSeed Thank you very kindly! I think that it was actually your comment on the original that inspired me to redesign the ears to resemble antlers more. I do have lore / pseudo biology about what the dog doin' and how it's telepathy works but I feel like it would be kinda cringe to put on the workshop. <-w->

Really nice 'update' on your original addon. I also appreciate some of the more physiological changes to the character such as the tails' redesign, and how they look like they're possibly used for defensive purposes. (in lore of course)
