I don't play Warhammer 3 any more, this mod still works for all units that exist before 4.0. If someone wants to take over, feel free to do so.

I would also love to see this updated.

though I don't see why this wouldn't still work on all the units that existed before

update plz~

would it be compatible with a friendly fire mod?
Velite  [author] 7 Jul, 2023 @ 9:00am
@Waimanian Yes
Waimanian 7 Jul, 2023 @ 4:32am
does this affect skaven slingers as well?

It is also accurate to how bows and crossbows worked in the tabletop wargame. Bows required direct LoS, just like guns, just like crossbows.
Riddle 20 Jun, 2023 @ 3:26am
This mod is accurate to how bows were used in real life. Archers, even longbowmen, generally did not fire over the heads of friendly troops. You can see it if you read up on battle deployments of some historical battles. Archers were deployed on the flanks, and fired from the flanks.

Although I don't like the fact that catapaults can be so accurate and parabolic I'll allow it.
Velite  [author] 12 Sep, 2022 @ 2:25pm
@Crowmeat yeah anything that had fixed arc that wasn't an artillery piece got changed.
Crowmeat 12 Sep, 2022 @ 1:39pm
Bows and crossbows all affected to have flatter arcs? I know you say archers can fire in arcs at long range but wasn't sure if only crossbows were eating the nerf compared to bows.

Also, Tjaranis, that...isn't how bows were used at all and a high arcing shot will have minimal force behind it once it does hit.

@Neil Very cool, I will check out that mod next campaign I do.
Neil 8 Sep, 2022 @ 3:59am
Yeah its an obvious oversight, imo, good mod! I liked it so much I had to incorporate its changes into my own mod, https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2859909347 made a version that perfectly adheres to RMT.
Would have made a submod if I could, sadly CA's table structure don't work like that :(
Noin Trongaz 3 Sep, 2022 @ 1:53pm
Actually, I didn't realize how much I needed this mod until I saw it.
Velite  [author] 1 Sep, 2022 @ 8:03pm
Most certainly, however, crossbows should not function like this. And the vast majority of crossbows in warhammer are working like bows which is not accurate at all.
Velite  [author] 1 Sep, 2022 @ 8:01pm
@Tjaranis If you shoot in the arcs that warhammer uses, your arrow would not hit a target 10 yards away. If you put as much draw weight into it to actually do serious damage, the arrow would travel much further. This physics is not supported with such high arcs but this gives a much closer look. Archers can still fire in high arcs, but they'll only do so at their max distances, or when there is a significant height difference.
IIFriggII 1 Sep, 2022 @ 4:30pm
you know EVERY half competent archer will shoot in a high arc right? NO ONE literally NO ONE who used a bow for just 5 days would shoot in the angle you show if shooting at these targets, you would angle it upwards and if you trained this for just half a day you get pretty precise with their impact point even at reasonably long distances (actually its easier at higher distances

This mod makes archers obstructed in more situations than they would in the base game.
Velite  [author] 31 Aug, 2022 @ 3:24pm
@Sokar that's really going to depend on the angle of fire. wh2_main_hef_bow_arrow is listed as low with this mod, but if your troops were getting obstructed before, this mod won't change that. This is just changing their possible fire arcs to be realistic.
Sokar 31 Aug, 2022 @ 9:41am
Downloaded this mod last night but didn't fix my high elf archers still saying obstructed even when they were on a hill above my melee line and I checked the projectiles_tables from WH2 and they list their trajectory as dual_low_fixed which is the same as before your fix but I never had this problem then. Any ideas?
Ciaphas Cain 29 Aug, 2022 @ 9:03am
That's good enough for me!
Velite  [author] 29 Aug, 2022 @ 8:46am
It depends whether you think crossbowmen shooting into the sky to do full damage from 30 yards away at a target they can't even see is a problem or not. For me, it very much is, it ruins immersion when crossbows don't function how they should.
Velite  [author] 29 Aug, 2022 @ 8:38am
Overall it results in a nerf to ranged units since the angles of fire for the units affected (which is mostly arrow and bolt throwing units) is limited.
Velite  [author] 29 Aug, 2022 @ 8:37am
@Mortarch of Blood This will prevent archers from shooting over the fort walls to units on the other side. In other words it applies realism.
Ciaphas Cain 29 Aug, 2022 @ 8:22am
So is this actually a fix or is it just a mod to improve ranged fire?
Spartak 28 Aug, 2022 @ 10:30pm
So we have to chose this or Snek's Better guns? damn :steamsad:
Solaire 28 Aug, 2022 @ 8:59pm
Preaching to the choir on that one and yeah I knew a compatability submod would be in order. I wish you the best. Stuff like this is very much needed.
Velite  [author] 28 Aug, 2022 @ 8:58pm
@Solaire It also goes without saying that if Creative Assembly wanted to actually base their battle simulator on realistic concepts, this should already be implemented in the base game. Unfortunately, modders have to pick up the slack.
Velite  [author] 28 Aug, 2022 @ 8:56pm
@Solaire The trajectory value is in the projectile_tables table, you'd have to make a compatibility submod to make it work with those.
Solaire 28 Aug, 2022 @ 8:47pm
Damn this is a must have if this didn't effect projectiles-tables. I have Snek's Better Guns and Effects mod which modifies that along with a few other things to have guns behave more realistic along with new audio to have more oomph to them.
Velite  [author] 28 Aug, 2022 @ 8:44pm
@Solaire Yes
Solaire 28 Aug, 2022 @ 8:42pm
Is this fancy talk to say that arrows and bolts aren't gonna be firing like pool noodles where they go up and then straight down?
