I had the pleasure of meeting the Twins in 2016 and 2017 when they were at IRM. I always questioning why UP was storing them at IRM and not Proviso where their power would normally be stored. It had nothing to do with UP planning to repaint all their units, because that decision to repaint them plus the remaining patched units was made on fairly short notice. As far as we know, that wasn't their plan as of 2014-2017. If it was, they would've repainted the Twins sooner.

Also, there's the fact that 8648 and 8701 are two of the oldest surviving Dash-9s in existence, as they were some of the first ones built. Imo, that would make them worthy of being museum pieces, and IRM would jump on saving them in half a second if they had been given the chance to do so. I can only wonder. . .

(By the way, the reason they got their old CNW-style numberboards back is because their UP-issued numberboards were stolen while they were in storage at IRM)
