Current version probably won't work anymore due to changes to how inability to inherit is marked in traits.
There've been slight changes. Enjoy.

Dr J. I used another mod that removed inheritance from concubine kids but didn't need reformation. I imagine it's even more simple than yours, but the recent update broke it and kids of concubines inherit as usual in the latest version with the mod active.

Not tested yours as I generally play in Britain with Norse so reformation is difficult, but there may be an issue.

Just a heads up.

@Dr Jimothy I see now. Thank You for your hard work! :steamhappy:

I would be extremely, super, very surprised if this mod were in any way less functional with the new update. I've technically not tested it yet but I've looked directly at the changes to the vanilla files of the game.
Trait changes from new update: only affects activity-related traits. The traits in this mod should be fine and dandy.
Activities: This mod doesn't add activities.
Decisions: Are still coded the same.
Interactions: Some changes, but these are expansions on what can be done aka for complex stuff like the new marriages. Shouldn't affect a basic interaction that just lets you change which of some possible traits one of your children has.
Buildings: This mod doesn't add buildings. Old building mods should actually still work, too, it's just that they'll use the old style of character-wide modifiers rather than only for men at arms stationed in their provinces.

1.9.0.3 compatible?
Dr Jimothy  [author] 24 Apr, 2023 @ 12:38pm
@Sonny Crocket

I'm.... unsure what on Earth you're talking about. This mod lets you control if children of concubines can inherit when reforming your religion. The decision is for legitimizing/de-legitimizing your own children-of-concubines, it doesn't let you mess with your vassals.
Are you sure you've not accidentally commented this on the wrong mod or something?

On another note, I can't update this mod or make changes to it cos OneDrive nuked my stuff, I can only update stuff I made after the zombies mod. I can make a part 2 of this if y'all like, with a few changes made like the decision not having a risk of crashing your game if you have 10 quintillion children from your 50 concubines, automatic application of the doctrine to religions, and a few more options in the doctrines and trait variety for more complex control over how concubine-children relate to inheritance of land and claims, and their legitimisation/de-legitimisation, and general opinions of them.
Sonny Crocket 24 Apr, 2023 @ 12:22pm
Doesnt really work for me. I can set the law to prevent rulers from having harems, etc, but they can still do it anyway. Of course I can use the decision to force them to stop it, but its way too expensive to use repeatedly.
ObiWanCanBlowMe 27 Mar, 2023 @ 5:35am
ther should be a option not to show children of a concubine on your children
MrTitainin 9 Jan, 2023 @ 5:54am
I also got a crash from your mod (deduced it from logs), but I think I managed to fix it - in your on_actions you use scope:father and it crashes when for whatever reason the child has no father. I guess it might happen with some events.
jombie 15 Dec, 2022 @ 1:18am
I have always wanted to make this mod since ck2 but I was too lazy to learn modding. Thank you lol
Lunchbox 8 Dec, 2022 @ 8:35pm
Thanks, but i think there should be a dynastic malus from other members of the same dynasty as well since like the disinherited/bastard trait, since historically the social status is lower. But other than that this is a great mod, thanks!
Dr Jimothy  [author] 8 Dec, 2022 @ 7:48pm
They do not get the bastard trait but the trait they get instead is functionally the same, preventing title inheritance.
Lunchbox 8 Dec, 2022 @ 7:04pm
is it possible to make the child have the bastard trait if not legitimisation is selected?

@Dr Jimothy
It's fine, I'm just happy to know you have future plan for this mod that's even better than I expected. Please take your time, I'd just lowkey expect being surprised with an update someday lol.
Dr Jimothy  [author] 9 Oct, 2022 @ 1:10pm
@drowsyetoile
On that though: don't hold your breath. I've had to get a part-time job and am a uni student, plus I'm currently trying to finish up a new mod before getting around to improving the existing ones. I might take a moment off from the new mod since it's a pretty easy addition to make.
(A global flag ("doctrine should be changed to X") per doctrine, a decision per doctrine and a yearly on_action for continued save games. Game rules and a game-start on_action with an if-effect per game rule for new games.)
The decision won't change all religions right away. The religions will update 1st of January within the game... also expect a small-but-nothing-crazy lag spike on that day lmao.
drowsyetoile 9 Oct, 2022 @ 12:06pm
@Dr Jimothy
That would be awesome, Thank you! I'm looking forward to the update.
Dr Jimothy  [author] 9 Oct, 2022 @ 8:40am
@drowsyetoile
100%. I'll also add decisions for those who are in still-running games for them to mass-apply doctrines to faiths/religions, so peeps continuing save games shouldn't have any problems.
drowsyetoile 9 Oct, 2022 @ 6:30am
Hi, I'm wonering if there is a possibility to add this in the game rules that we can choose which doctrine is the default one?
Dr Jimothy  [author] 4 Oct, 2022 @ 6:58pm
@NabiBlue
Hmmm... which mods were you using? I get that I'm about to get a "all of them" response but knowing some might let me find any incompatibilities and, more importantly, fix whatever's causing them.
NabiBlue 4 Oct, 2022 @ 6:10pm
@Dr Jimothy

My apologies, it does seem to be working now. I was having issues with my game and removing your mod was the only thing that let it work again. So not sure what the issue was but it is resolved now.
Dr Jimothy  [author] 29 Sep, 2022 @ 8:33am
@NabiBlue
Just tested it and everything worked perfectly:
- It's either another mod or mods you're using. This mod only adds things and doesn't overwrite anything, so mod incompatibilities shouldn't be possible. I specifically do things this way with my more recent mods because I primarily make the mods so I can play with them, and don't like them being incompatible with other mods I like.
- Or something I didn't think to check while testing.

In case it's the latter, could you elaborate on how it caused your game to crash? Did your game crash before it was loaded, or after you tried to do something? If there is something broken it's a whole lot easier for me to find it and fix it when I know what the broken part is.

Has to be reformed. This was because AI would sometimes take concubines but not spouses and so their descendants wouldn't continue ruling the same place, but now that I've removed that problem by adding the "Unclear Offspring" trait I might add it to the start of the game.
❤黑耳欠草逆兔女郎❤ 12 Sep, 2022 @ 10:36pm
Excuse me, I wanted to ask if you have added these directly to the teachings of the faith, or does it have to be reformed?
Dr Jimothy  [author] 12 Sep, 2022 @ 5:28pm
Updated!:
-> Already worked perfectly in 1.7 but updated anyway
-> Added the "Unclear Offspring" trait. This is to prevent bloodlines of rulers hitting dead ends if rulers die with all their children being born of concubines.
-> "Unclear Offspring" is automatically replaced with "Lesser Offspring" the moment a ruler has a child with their spouse or legitimizes one of the children of their concubines.
-> Children of concubines who have no eligible siblings born in marriage, nor any siblings who were also born of concubines but were legitimized, will be born with the "Unclear Offspring" trait.
-> Added decisions for mass legitimization and de-legitimization. Do note that you lose the same amount of prestige from this as you would going through each kid one by one, except that with this you can go into the negatives.
drowsyetoile 12 Sep, 2022 @ 4:24am
Finally we got a mod like this! I've always wondered why there are so many cultures and societies that treat children of concubines differently from those of spouses, but in the game children of concubines only get a trait that −1 diplomacy, which sometimes doesn't really matter or doesn't have too much impact on everything. So thank you very much for sharing this mod with us!

And I see that you may consider making another mod also regarding children of concubines, I'd LOVE to try that one if one day it got released.
beach 4 Sep, 2022 @ 2:20pm
This mod is such a welcome addition! Never made sense that children of concubines were automatically legit heirs. Thank you!
Dr Jimothy  [author] 3 Sep, 2022 @ 5:22am
If I do make a mod that does this it will be separate from this, though. This will be the "light, simple, good for compatibility" version while the mod you're suggesting would be the "heavy, not as good for compatibility" one. Especially since I think it would be unfair on those who've gotten this mod to damage its compatibility of this mod when part of why they got it in the first place was it being super-compatible.
Dr Jimothy  [author] 3 Sep, 2022 @ 5:22am
@kgptzac
It's probably possible but I'd need to overwrite the files regarding how inheritance works, which would make this mod not work alongside some other mods (compared to how it currently will work alongside pretty much if not legitimately everything). I mostly didn't do that under the assumption that there's probably a mod out there that does that already... although now that I've actually tried to search for such a mod I can't find it, and it just so happens the story behind most of my mods can be summed up as "Jimothy wants to play with mod that has his idea, searches for mod under the assumption that surely someone else made it already, doesn't find it, makes it himself."
kgptzac 3 Sep, 2022 @ 12:25am
I know it's probably not possible but I'd like to have an options to have all children of concubine placed after all children of main spouse in line of succession, like how Born in Purple trait does to the Greek culture realms.
Riaman 2 Sep, 2022 @ 7:28am
@Dr Jimothy I agree with @firespark84 , it will also help ai preserve their dynasty and not always explode by partition.
Dr Jimothy  [author] 31 Aug, 2022 @ 8:38pm
@firespark84
I might make a separate mod for that. It wouldn't be in this mod as part of what makes this mod as good as it is is that it's compatible with everything except maybe some overhaul mods.
firespark84 31 Aug, 2022 @ 8:26pm
another step would be to have it so concubine children were legit, but they are considered bellow legitimate children in succession (though not disqualified), like born in the purple for byzantines or females in male preference succession kingdoms

@牛奶大魔王
Ah okay. Thankyou very much for the effort you are putting in so that more people can enjoy more of the workshop!

@Dr Jimothy I think I will translate “Jimothy's Religious Doctrines” this one , but it will take some time. The other have already translations

@牛奶大魔王
Nice! Thankyou! I'm going to put that link in the description.

If you are looking for religion mods that add a lot of flavor:
- Jimothy's Religious Doctrines. "Inheritance Doctrine: Concubine's Children" was originally going to be a part of that mod, however I decided to make it a standalone mod.
- Medieval Matriarchs. It makes playing as female rulers more interesting, but also adds a lot of religious flavor such as special tenets for different religions, new buildings and so on.
- Adoption Options. This is by the same person who made "Celebrate Crimes" and lets players adopt characters.
