Mission needs an update. chopper just goes straight up in the air and it wont let me pick up the map case

It can definitely be frustrating at times, but if my dumb ass can do it, you can too! I'd say its up there with Oscar 8 in difficulty. Not so much with the number of enemies, but with navigation and... well I don't want to spoil anything!

Mods like "AI Can't See Through Grass", "Dynamic Camo System", and SOG AI really elevate this guy's missions a lot. This one is no exception. Hint: Think "Crawling Simulator", because that's what these guys had to do IRL.

I see the guy complaining about the Arsenal presence...I get it, but having no suppressed weapons is ROUGH if you're playing the TL. I grabbed a can for the 1911, a trap kit, and didn't look back! (Though I think HeadUp gives you a few too many mags to start, which just weigh you down...)

But this was a lot of fun! And like "Romp In The Swamp '66", I'd love to see this voiced and spun into a campaign. The Aussie chopper banter is absolutely hilarious XD

loved this mission...night time approaching the objectives so close to the enemy i could smell what they had for dinner, trackers so close and passing by at night gave me a pucker factor of 9000

NOTE:
The trackers sabotaged the ambush prep so many times that i had to go ahead and prematurely detonate the claymores i had bcuz of them. I think its better to delete the tracker module once the main objective is completed or player has entered the ambush area.

I was hunting the stealth task which extended the mission playtime to upto 5 hrs, couldn't find the map or the HVT

Arsenal right at the landing point? seriously? I can take everything from saved presets, including UAVs and other crap from the future. How is this possible? this immediately ruined the entire immersion. (he reads the story they said).
When I saw the arsenal in the middle of the field, I vomited right into the monitor. who taught you to do this shit?

You must give a description of exactly how the enemy spawns. Let me guess, endless enemies will spawn nearby and always run towards me? Describe in detail what you wrote and stuffed there.

Coop seems to be completely broken. Automatic ViewDistance v1.6 and SOG AI loaded, no chance in loading the mission. The host can watch the whole intro, the rest is stuck in the loading screen. The first time two additional players were able to start, but we had to abort due to visual problems and then we tried for around 1 hour to get the mission started again. Lobby - host go - additionals loading screen and never able to reach the map to ready up again.

You have to get to the exact spot on the map, and the option to skip time will appear.

Maybe my favorite SP mission ever when using SOG AI. So hard but so fun. You have to move constantly or Charles will GET YOU. Spam those toepoppers and tripwire mines and bouncing betties too! I like to circle back to the arsenal to keep everyone topped off on ammo and explosives.

First of all what an awesome mission….. fantastic Job !!!! Now Is there any chance you could tweak it so you could run it for more than 5 players ? Our Co-op group is usually 10-14 and we’d love to play it if possible….. also be nice to be able to use some of the larger SOG AI teams too.

I’ve played all your missions and you do great work… some of the best out there!!!

Managed to get passed what ever was causing it, I'm guessing a sneaky enemy hanging around too close. Thumbs up and fav'd, can tell a lot of effort went into this :steamthumbsup:

Can't seem to get the Laager (RON) to trigger, i patrol right up to the spot on the map and nothing comes up apart from a temp objective saying "Time skip" but that vanishes too. Btw this looks amazing, just trying to get passed this one bit.

Hello, thank you very much for your work. I have three questions/comments to ask after trying to play last night with some friends in coop.

The first one. I don't know why I, who was the server, got dark before the rest of the players. This is a comment in case you could check this strange behaviour.

Secondly, if you die... you're screwed, there's no way to respawn? It's a bummer if you die and the rest of the mission you're left to watch :_(

Third. I know the game explains it, but it does it very quickly and didn't give us time to "absorb" the concept. What the hell do you do if it gets dark and you want to "sleep" and have the day come? We remembered that you had to be all together and.... That's as far as we got, there was no way to make it work... whatever it was.

And again, thank you very much for the work :)

Note: SOG AI has been updated which fixes the problem of unit #5 disembarking helicopter before he should.

SOG AI works after game saves now, thanks for the update. I had the most interesting/terrifying experience in this scenario today. Was patrolling at night with a starlight scope thinking the enemy would never see us. Some trackers must have caught up to us and wounded my whole team. I turned around to look, and, by the light of the starlight scope and flashes of lightening, saw an NVA soldier hacking my wounded teammates to death with a machete. I may need therapy!!

This is an amazingly detailed mission. I find it even with SOG AI to be very difficult but that makes it all the better. Once the trackers gets you cornered you are in for an all out fight!!!! This mission will be awesome with a live 5 man team working together. One of the best, if not the best, mission on the workshop!!!! Congrats !!!!

I have just pushed a small update to improve compatibility with SOG AI, fixing a bug that was removing SOG AI actions along with the laager time skip actions. Thanks to the user who reported that to Johnnyboy on YouTube. I am also hearing the heli insertion bug that occurs when playing with SOG AI might be related to a recent update to the game, and that it may soon be addressed in a future hotfix from BI. Fingers crossed there.

@f.cyprowski - As stated above, not responsible for bugs or issues with additional addons like ACE or lambs AI. When you skip time, it checks to see if the unit is alive then moves them to a designated position and orders them to stop. If you order your units to regroup and they are not responding then it may be an issue with one or more addons.

It's great, really well done but I have to use Zeus to skip time because the whole skipping time mechanics makes my AI friends stuck. This may be one of loaded mods, probably lambs or ACE somehow.

@White Rabbit -sometimes if you lose command of your AI squaddies you can try polling up the "Done" on your radio screens and theyll regroup with you as Leader

The stuff you did with the RON and multiple time skips is incredible. Also, again, the line of sign objective completion is very cool. A friend wanted me to relay that he did have some problems with SOG AI on this particular map when he played singleplayer, but that's neither here nor there and I don't know if I should mention it to you or Johnnyboy. Glad you guys were able to team up on this one to do the sog ai or arma 3 ai options as well at the RON. Very handy and cool detail. Did run into a few small problems and will relay them later, but nothing immersion or game breaking. Cheers!

This is a very well made and ambituous mission. I haven't finished it yet but all the work invested into it makes it a must-have in any mission collection. I especially like the clear and detailed briefing, the equally pedagogic map and the realistic mission objectives. This was something I lacked in the official S.O.G Prairie Fire missions, where the maps and briefing are almost incomprehensible until you've played the missions once and then retry them. Another bonus is that you may command AI squads, wich I've always enjoyed. I didn't encounter any of the bugs mentioned below. There's not many missions around that is as good as this one. Try it.

Thanks to those who have commented and left feedback and experiences - even if it was buggy for some, it’s cool to hear from you all. I am aware of some of the issues with various elements including the insertion and issues with SOG AI. Working to resolve them where possible.

If you are using pierremgi AI revive from the crate, there can be some rather annoying quirks, especially when using the player always leads script in combo. However, at least in my tests, if you wait long enough and never leave a man behind, you will either have a revived teammate and all will be fixed in time, or after enough time has passed and no one helps the teammate will die and the issue will eventually correct itself. The only time I’ve seen it break down is really aggressive team switching while multiple guys keep getting capped. In that case I’d just suggest reverting. Anyway, glad you dig the mission concept. As much as I want to enjoy this scenario I just keep running into issues with the AI. Switching between the units and still being Squad Lead is cool but it messes up, as an example, I was downed as Platoon Leader and switched to another so I could go revive the PL, when I revived them tho they acted as if they were no longer part of the squad so I could no longer give them orders or give orders as them. (Probably acted as if they should be dead?)

I loved how the missions were set up, it felt legit where you have basic intel on "possible" locations of objectives, so you have to ruck it through the hostile jungle with enemy all around you.

yes i had the game save doing something funny . but looks like its saving the game play now.i was thinking the mission may have got a update.but im just checking out how this mission works.and how im going make a run at this baby.. but every time i start over im finding the mission more fun . i like the shotgun lol. and a guy can try the bird out

I’ve also noticed… on my games, that if i save and then return and load a saved game, My SOG AI is no longer active. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this.

I haven't had the time yet to complete it but what I have seen so far is amazing.

The presentation like briefing and music are on point and create an atmosphere that one would expect from a Vietnam themed game/scenario.

Anyone else getting a CTD when it tries to auto saves at the first LZ? Tried 3 times, crashes every time at the same spot.

Did some playing and here are my initial thoughts and issues.

1. The insert is definitely buggy…. My #5 gets out of the helo every time before we leave the Aussie AO… luckily I have him hoof overnight and he makes by the AM to the RON sight.😁

2. My SOG AI is hit or miss on having the command option to heal all and place mines. All other aspects work…. I do switch out everyones load out at the Arsenal at 1st light. The load outs have First Aid kits and toe poppers so that’s not the issue. Maybe changing their loadouts throws it off.

The area you selected is awesome with plenty of vegetation and concealment. There are plenty of enemies as well… love the spider holes. The different traps and sniper platforms are great as well.

I’d like to start at the base with the Arsenal there to get a solid load out before heading out.

Overall….. a kick ass job !!!!!!!

This is the first time I really enjoyed reading the briefing to a user mission. You are given lots of little bits of information, but it's all relevant, and it's where you expect it to be, and the formatting et cetera is 100% right. It looks like a mission by BI. That's what I call production values!

The mission itself I didn't get very far in, as far as singleplayer testing. Kept running into patrols, and lost my way (playing on veteran). However the objectives themselves are a bit more interesting than the standard "shoot/explode this, clear that", and fit the SAS subject better.

Extra props to the scripted opening helicopter insertion where you get to support an airstrike as player!

Thoroughly enjoyed. Can recommend to singleplayer and cooperative groups!

Nighttime visibility is usually dictated by the terrain, and as far as I know it goes full dark, unlike some of my missions that either have a terrain using the night sky from Contact (Livonia) or heavy use of Recolor - these are night only. This one can and should be played at any time of day. It does go full dark, other times depending on the hour you can kinda still see, but the arsenal crate your patrol brings in has flashlights and state-of-the-art starlight NVG scopes. You should be able to go wild and experiment. Patrolling at night means slower movement but obviously will be easier to remain undetected.

Can’t wait to try this as Headup has great missions !!! I remember playing a SP mission that had a night setting where it was dark but still enough light to operate. It was actually quite fun to operate at night but most Workshop missions when it gets dark it’s 100% unseeable. I wonder if the night settings can be adjusted to keep it from going pure dark. The use of a RON locations in Headup and FUBARs missions are awesome additions to make these mission historically accurate.

Check on your map for a marker near your insertion LZ that says “Laager (RON)” - when close enough to that marker you will get the option to skip time ahead. The reason for this is real SASR patrols in Vietnam frequently involved inserting at dusk and staying hidden until the following morning. You can use the time skip action at the laager to choose any time of day you want to play.
