the map looks so much better now! and it's much easier to see armies/settlements while only zooming out a little

Dont use the mod. It will drain 20 percent performance and cause extra gpu load on the campaign map.

If you are using Prop Joe's mod manager, you can check compatibility of all your mods with the click of a button.

I haven't messed with it yet, but I reset the order anyway and it shuffled some things around so I'll see if that helps and start switching off some other mods if it doesn't.

Don't mess with your load order. Leave it at default.
It's possible you have another mod that overrides this, like HN's clear skies.

Should this be at the top/bottom of load order? It worked the first time I activated it but since hasn't.

Like any other mod, by subscribing to it and making sure it is selected in the mod manager.

Played with it for a bit and seems to work fine, haven't really noticed any weirdness with the camera change so far.
