damn since build 42.1 has launched and they fixed hard of hearing back. I need this mod so bad ngl hope you found way to bring it back. Amazing mode.

I appreciate the suggestions and comments y'all but I'm working 18 hour days, don't play, and don't have time to brute force how the game API works. If I start playing again, like with the new update, I'll probably make some time to fix these bugs and update the code to work with the new engine.

you guys do realize that dev of this mods hasnt update it for almost year since 8 august 2023? im pretty sure he forgot about his mods or abandon it and never update again

Hi! There's bug with "dead" items in bags.
Can you change it:

(forgot to add but the battery dupe bug mostly happens if the battery you added was in a different inventory than the hearing aid (like hearing aid main inventory and battery pack in a backpack and etc...)

oh and another thing, when you add new batteries to a hearing aid a lot of times the battery will just dupe, that is, it will be added to the hearing aid allowing it to work but it will now be stuck to your inventory aswell, and you can't transfer it to any other inventory anymore, it's just stuck there, but it's still usable. (you can even keep inserting it into the hearing aid after the current battery runs out)

so there is a bug with the hearing aids, everytime you exit and re-enter your game they stop working and you have to turn them off and then back on again for them to work.

There is some bug/glitch, I have eletrician lvl 8 and all the requirements for Boosted Hearing Aid but it does not allow to craft it, it does not recognize I even have a single of the requirement for the recipe..

I have two top-quality hearing aids in this mod, and I almost always play with the "Deaf" perk. I consistently encounter the same issue. This mod doesn't function on servers. If possible, please address this problem. When I equip the hearing aid, I can't hear any sounds, such as zombie noises, car sounds, and so on. Absolutely nothing.

Nightmare73rus: I like the idea. It's simple. It would need to be pretty easy to lose and fairly rarely to make it balanced. It would be easier than this mod because it doesn't require batteries :D

I have an idea. A rabbit's foot that works like a hearing aid. When you put it on, it gives you the lucky perk. But there's also a chance of dropping it. Can you make a mod like that?

@Quill - I just tried to reproduce and couldn't. Everything works as expected for me. It's possible something weird happened if you installed Nightmare73rus' version since it has the same workshop ID. Try unsubbing this one and that one, and then resubbing this one. Let me know if you can't get it working or if you have an idea of how I can reproduce.

I just subbed to this mod and I ran into an issue

All models of Hearing Aids don't do anything for Hard of Hearing or Deaf and the Boosted Hearing Aid doesn't give Keen Hearing. The battery for the hearing aids also do not drain

I've unsubbed and resubbed to the mod and tested it on it's own with no other mods installed

all kinds. efficient is less, but normal and broken are really abundant.
from a group of about 100 - 150 zombies, I could prob get around 3 or 4 hearing aids, which is a lot over time.

Axelroid, are they broken hearing aids? Those are the only ones that spawn and they're somewhat rare.

Skragdush, I believe I fixed your issue. Turns out the player objects aren't persisted between game sessions. I needed to work of the player ID instead. I was able to turn hearing aid on, restart the game, turn the hearing aid off, and everything worked properly.

Right now, the hearing aids definitely last too long. I really like the mod though, it adds a fun mechanic to being deaf.

FurryFailure, I agree the drain isn't quite right. I figured I'd play with it for a while to see how it feels. I hope to have some time this weekend to put out some better values. I was thinking 2-3 days for the optimized hearing aid per battery. And ~12 hours for the normal one.

Skragdush, I was able to reproduce your problem. Some information is lost and I think it's because I don't understand the mod lifecycle. I think some code runs, the activation code in this case, when the game first loads. I tried setting some breakpoints there but it doesn't work and I'm going to have to add some logging to see if that's what I think it is. Basically I know about where the problem is and just need to grope around blindly in the dark since none of this is documented anywhere.

The Efficient Hearing Aid is refusing to drain battery power for myself, but otherwise the mod is working rather well aside from a few audio hiccups, usually it can be solved by turning it off and on again, but not for the Battery Drain.

If I had to wager a guess, you might have a typo in the values.

The Normal aid is comfortable enough at least.
I enjoyed the idea of using both, and bringing the Efficient Aid with me on raids to Military Bases or such to give myself an edge, while I use a normal one for Urban Foraging on my deaf character.

Figured I'd point it out, snitching aside, I wanted the added micromanagement of keeping Batteries.

@Satoshi - Thank you! A bit more info, not sure if it could help with the issue:

- Since the start I had a little error bloc on the bottom right of the screen whenever I would turn on or off the hearing aids, but it still worked fine. Then it just randomly stopped working, battery wasn't draining anymore and my character lost the "deaf" trait.

- I have some mods but not a lot, only one that somewhat affect audio is the Sound Direction Indicator (Workshop ID: 2560478285).

- Not game breaking, loot seemed fine, I would still find hearing aids and the change in batteries spawn was still working.

@Skragdush Glad you're getting something out of it. I'll try and reproduce this problem. An older version had a bug where it wouldn't properly clear traits but the new one shouldn't have this issue. Thanks for reporting.

@Satoshi - Excellent mod, thank you! I'm deaf IRL, this allow me to roleplay and add a start objective of finding aids and keeping batteries, really add a gameplay dimension :D

I just have a weird issue, my character suddenly isn't deaf anymore, like he doesn't have the trait in his bio anymore, and can hear sounds with hearing aids off...I don't understand what happened bc it was working perfectly for 20 in-game days, turning hearing aids off/on was working fine.

After some time without having to change the battery, I check in the inventory and see that the battery level haven't changed at all, so I turn the hearing aids off and that's when I realize my character isn't deaf anymore. I'm glad for him but now I have a tons of useless batteries lmao :D

Is there a way for me to overcome this weird bug? I would like to give the trait back to my character, if that's possible in the middle of a run oc

@9Volume - Right click the hearing aid and look for Fix hearing aid. You should see it in craft helper too.

@Shitlings the drops are fairly rare. If you give me the error I’ll try and reproduce. I’ll be afk all weekend but I should be able to look at Monday or Tuesday. it should modify the loot distributions without affecting anything else
