If you're still having problems, see this guide. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=511040608 . I provides 3 methods on how to get these Materials fixes working in SFM.
SourceFilmmaker\game\workshop\ (<- because it is from the workshop, then under that folder) materials\models\workshop\player\items\all_class\short2014_lil_moe
And you are correct, there are only 3 files that download.
short2014_lil_moe.vmt,
short2014_lil_moe_color.vtf and
short2014_lil_moe_normal.vtf
These fixed materials have to have a higher priority than the TF files. You do that by either giving the workshop folder a higher priority or create a new folder under the Games folder giving it a higher priority than the TF folder and moving the materials\models\workshop\player\items\all_class\short2014_lil_moe path plus the 3 materials files into it.
sourcefilmmaker\game\workshop\materials\models\workshop\player\items\all_class\short2014_lil_moe\short2014_lil_moe.vmt and vtf .
The usermod path you said in your post will work.
Or you could give the game\workshop folder a higher priority or you could move them to a new folder like,
sourcefilmmaker\game\{foldername}\materials\models\workshop\player\items\all_class\short2014_lil_moe\ folder
and give the {foldername} a higher priority using the SDK Edit Search paths for selected mod feature.
I don't plan on changing these file so you would be safe unsubbing the workshop item after you move the files so you don't get hounded to download the workshop files again..
Thank you very much for the help! o/
So, you can do one of 5 things for these materials.
1) you can move the workshop folder ahead of TF_Movies and tf (which means that if you have modelsmodels, materials, particles or sounds download that use the same names as game stuff, they'll load first making the game stuff not avaiilable
2) you can make a the required path in usermod or TF_movies and move the downloaded materials there and unsub the workshop stuff (or you'll be bugged to download the stuff again everytime you start SFM.)
4) copy the downloaded materials over top of the original materials in the tf materials folder. (One con of overwriting original game files or folders is that if SFM updates, the new materials may be overwritten back to original files by an update.)
or
5) you can give your model an override materials and add a $basetexture to the model and point that to the downloaded materials
All processes mentioned above have their pros and cons.
I'm kind of a beginner in SFM and I dowloaded your stuff to color the mohawk (because I was looking forward for someone to create it) but I can't find when I use SFM, what should I do to fix it?
Thanks :3
any of these solutions should fix your problem.
